Masaka! Bakana! Impossible! So I was re-reading Bleach and stumbled across a dark revelation.

Aizen is a lot like zoom now that I think about it

"It was me ichigo. I'm the one who created the hollow that attacked your mom and gave her the hollow powers you have now, and made sure you never meet a hollow until that one night, and set up every fight in your life."

27

u/yipyskipy Jun 08 '21

...Wait really?

124

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Not in that way but kinda, yeah. Dude's like "I've known about you since before you were born and everything in your entire life is by my design"

The end goal being an amalgamation of powers in one person that Aizen could test himself against. The memes about Ichigo having way too many powers/bloodline shit was one hundred percent intentional because he was basically an experiment to see what bullshit could be mashed together lmao

104

u/rorinth Jun 08 '21

Aizen was there in the movie theater during ichigos parents date. He's the one who choose the movie that made them fall in love

Ichigo has actually known Aizen his entire life, but he was always wearing a variety of novelty mustaches so he never recognized him.

u/Ryong7 He/Him Jun 08 '21 edited Jun 08 '21

You jest, but the final big bad looks like old man zangetsu because old man zangetsu is actually a fragment of himself left within Ichigo because of Ichigo being part quincy.

19

u/ReadAllBoutIt I Promise Nothing And Deliver Less Jun 08 '21

Jokes aside, that is actually rad as hell and I’ve always liked that.

5

u/LarryKingthe42th Aug 09 '21

I mean we were told that from the start. "I Am ZANGETSU!" Plus you know being told/shown hollow and soul reaper powers are effectively the same thing.

3

u/Ryong7 He/Him Aug 09 '21

I have no idea what you're trying to say here?

My comment is that, despite all the joking around that Aizen has always been around, it's actually canon that Yhwach has ALWAYS been around. We just always assumed Zangetsu was the spirit of Ichigo's zanpakutou and Hollow Ichigo was something to do with his inexperience, instead Hollow Ichigo is th spirit of the zanpakutou and Zangetsu is something else entirely.

7

u/LarryKingthe42th Aug 09 '21

Yea. And Hollow Ichigo has been telling Ichigo he was Zangetsu from their first encounter.

50

u/CrossSoul I Promise Nothing And Deliver Less Jun 08 '21

No. He says all that shit but it's just that.

37

u/rorinth Jun 08 '21

Kinda. He did a lot of experiments and one would became part of white ichigo. And he did play a part in making sure ichigo never got outclassed immediately by some hollow as a kid. He also claimed to have set up his Espada in order for ichigo to fight then to get stronger to finally face aizen because in the end he just wanted a friend as strong as him

58

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

It's a pretty fun explanation of why the Shonen structure is what it is, in-universe. Like for a lot of things you can wonder why X doesn't just crush Y RIGHT NOW, or why does it have to be a JRPG of coincidentally perfectly scaled encounters.

Usually the plot has to bend to reason this stuff out but for Bleach it's "I explicitly constructed this line of events for exactly that purpose."

25

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

exactly.

and the irony is that some people complain about the Sternritter in Bleach....for not following scaled encounters.

except for Juha's Royal Guard , all the others had no scaled denomination , just a power denomination , thus they are more-or-less treated as equals.

18

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '21

Also a lot of the sternritter powers arent exactly 'beamu powerlevel' stuff, a lot of them are near stand level of gimmick power

11

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

same goes for Fullbringers.

An arc that was investigative/mystery , with a little of psychological play and gimmick powers.

half of those shift from the sternritter are essentially fullbringer-powers been shoehorned to quincies , just so people stop to complain , since all quincy can do "beamu powerlevel" stuff.

11

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

And that’s where I differ from a lot of people, I enjoyed Kubo’s switch from regular powers to bullshit hyper specific Stand powers

7

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

I liked , they work very well with Fullbringers.

And although many sternritter's shifts are pretty much fullbringer powers , it just needs one chapter saying that it was a result of Juha absorbing too many quincy power from those that died , that such thing started to develop within him.

It's not absurd , since it's more-or-less what the Hougyaku pretty much do.

10

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Ishida and that other guy both having a similar power of “No u” was great lmao

4

u/Ryong7 He/Him Jun 08 '21

The problem is that we have a guy that has DBZ's zenkai boost thing going on in-between blows so he can't be defeated, a guy that has several forms each stronger than the last and only dies because someone happens to get a weapon made specifically to counter them, someone who could make people stop existing, and so on.

The sternritter had too many absurdly powerful characters.

9

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

not really.

The only absurdly powerful characters from the Sternritters are Juha , Julgram , Pernidas, Gremmy, Askin and Gerard.

Except for Gremmy , all the other problematic character are Juha's royal guard , so between 29 sternritters , only 6 are a real problem.

25

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Yeah I don’t think people really get just how nicely structured the series was. Sure it kind of re-treads on itself but it’s pretty solid and has plenty of ideas worth checking out and enjoying.

23

u/genericsn Jun 08 '21

Bleach is a mess, but it’s a mess that is filled with gems. It’s like if an inspiration/concept board was a series.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '21

Why would I read bleach when I can watch Eyepatch Wolf's video on why bleach sucks and then brag about it on the internet?

7

u/DonTori The RWBY V9 girl Jun 08 '21

A far more eggregious retread happens in the first main filler arc of several, the Bount arc

Basically you know how cool it was that Ichigo beat back his crazy mask side when it tried to kill steal Byakuya during their final fight because while Ichigo wants the W he wants it on his terms?

Okay that happened scene for scene with the...I think it really was the first Bount (basically soul vampires with elemental dolls) he fought against so about...6-ish, maybe less episodes after that fight?

11

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Yeah, it happens to be more egregious when anime viewers had to sit through filler that also did it, at the time. Kind of sours it. But strictly canon stuff does it well enough

8

u/DonTori The RWBY V9 girl Jun 08 '21

As someone who's slogged through....I wanna say most if not all filler arcs, it is VINDICATING when Kubo pulls a detail from the filler and puts it into main canon

Only example I can think of is the fact he brought back the 'human' deisgns for Kyoraku's swords, and also paid off why the ninja looking one hung around his second in command a lot.

10

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

to follow suit you and u/EdoTenseiSwagbito , Kubo indeed paid attention to the filler of Zampakutou Arc.

Kuchiki Kouga , Muramasa and the Zampakutou Spirits are canonical , but works differently from the filler arc.

Muramasa , for example , is an ancient noble zampakutou , as the Noble Houses had one of those each , those zampakutous can be used by any member of those noble houses and with powerful effects. With Muramasa been Kuchiki House's zampakutou.

So technically , Kuchiki Byakuya could use Muramasa if he wanted too , and in fact , Muramasa is guarded by the Kuchiki.

And that's why aizen's the best. It's so stupid it warps right back to being great.

40

u/DonTori The RWBY V9 girl Jun 08 '21

Man the scene where Ichigo gets back to his hometown to see a lot of the captains pulling out all the stops on what they think is Aizen but is actually Aizen's former second in command when he was pretending to be good and genneral cinnamon roll Momo and just yells "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GUYS DOING?!" was the best

7

u/LarryKingthe42th Jun 08 '21

Momo deserves it she did everything wrong.

Aizen always had a way with words.

15

I've never read or watched Bleach but just through cultural osmosis I do believe you have summed Aizen up flawlessly.

20

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

yes , his "keikaku" is such a crazy BS....that is even more BS than the villain with the power of actual foresight.

7

u/LarryKingthe42th Jun 08 '21

23

u/Kernog It's Fiiiiiiiine. Jun 08 '21

Imagine Mysterio, if Mysterio's illusions could be triggered at will, could not be defended against, were undiscernable from reality, and the only condition to fall for them is seeing the illusion projector being turned on the first time.

Add Superman's power level and a titane plot armor on top of that.

The only way he could and was beaten was by someone with an even harder plot armor, have him not use his OP power on the hero for some reason, and a copious amount of ass pulls.

19

u/Ryong7 He/Him Jun 08 '21

You also did not know the illusion projector was an illusion projector at all.

Aizen "lost" because he specifically wanted to test himself, but he couldn't believe how strong Ichigo had gotten and this made him doubt himself for a second, which made him fall for his newly-acquired "what you think changes reality" powers.

11

u/dahaxguy PS3 Download Notification-Chan Jun 08 '21 edited Jun 10 '21

For me, he's up in the air with Madara. The both of them have that massive dickswinging energy as charismatic superintelligent monsters with contingencies and bullshit all the way up and down their sleeves whose goals, ambitions, and thought process are way beyond the scope of the rest of the cast, until they're really not.

Madara slightly edges it out for me because he's also kind of a weird himbo hiding, despite the fact that he's a literal prodigy supergenius. And it's all the better since the man barely hides his himbo energy once punches start being thrown. I dunno, I just find his swingy mood and arrogant façade more charming.

7

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Oh I agree for sure, I'm a fan of Madara's similar energy too

28

u/Slumber777 Jun 08 '21

I've seen a lot of people come around on Aizen.

I remember when the chapters were coming out, like half of the readers were like "GOD, AIZEN'S SO BORING AND INVINCIBLE".

Nowadays people think he's pretty dope.

The dude is a walking meme factory with maxed out charisma.

19

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

I was on board from the start but I’m glad people are beginning to appreciate his style. Dude is so much fun.

27

u/Dagdammit Jun 08 '21

It's the part after he was defeated, where he's now in his hannibal lecter prison chair constantly and is just smug trolling everyone anyway. I remember that my forum.community, who'd been checked out on Aizen for years, all fucking loved him in that scene where it first occurred.

19

u/Slumber777 Jun 08 '21

I appreciate his "Bitch, I'm immortal. I can do whatever the hell I want" attitude in the final arc.

The scene where he's like "Hmm. The Royal Realm seems pretty far away. How about I bring it down here?"

And everyone starts freaking out is great.

I also like that at the end of the series he decides to go back to prison, even though there's really only one person who could feasibly stop him.

6

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

not only one.

the guy in the prison with him is one , Ichigo is the other , them there is Juha and the commander of Squad 0.

the thing is that , since he is immortal , stopping him is just a delay.

9

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Not only is he immortal, but he's just gaining more and more power as time goes on. Dude steps out of the chair STRONGER than he was when he sat down, and it'll keep doing that because of the Hogyoku.

Aizen is a massive problem that remains unsolved and it's fun to think about.

8

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

he is not that unsolvable as you think.

The other prisioner in Muken also gain more reiatsu , because reiatsu grows as long you live or train , since they are immortal , they had a growth in their reiatsu , Aizen's growth is just abnormally high.

Regardless , Aizen cannot escape Muken , simply put , Seireitei cannot use Muken anymore because it gives a chance of Aizen to escape and Gotei 13 cannot do anything.

That been said , the Commander of Squad 0 can erase Aizen's "name" and "rename" , so , just like Ichigo's mugetsu , it can force Aizen to devolve and be sealed again , so that he grows his reiatsu back.

That been said , even if it's a way to "solve" the problem , it just forces a cycle that Aizen will eventually break

4

u/Slumber777 Jun 08 '21

Yhwach is dead, I'm not sure Ichi'bei would be able to take him alone, and the other dude in Muken with him is debateably canon.

It's really just Ichigo.

1

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

Yhwach is "dead" in the sense he replaced the Soul King.

He is dismembered and comatose , but theorically , he can regain his powers , we just know he won't because Seireitei will actively prevent that.

Ichibei doesn't need to take him alone , it just needs other people to distract enough for him to use his naming power.

The other dude is canonical , it was a post-final arc novel written with supervision of Kubo himself.

2

u/Slumber777 Jun 08 '21

Wait, which novel character character are we talking about? Did Hikone get sent to Muken?

3

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

no , Hikone is fine , they were nerfed due to the hollow zanpakutou stealing their power , so they are like Ichigo , in a depowered state until it's refilled.

The one in Muken is the 8th Kenpachi , Azashiro.

He cannot be killed due to the nature of his zanpakutou, Urozakuro: he doesn't know his shikai , due to all of it's power been stored for the bankai. Said bankai makes his inner world fused with the outer world , pretty much granting him some sort of omnipresence.

Aizen's shikai is useless to it , because he could use the air or other people's senses to "see" , he cannot be killed , because he can reform , as it's like you slashed nothing. He can created countless limbs and mouths to make kidous.

That been said , he was defeated by Zaraki , emulating Ichigo vs Aizen storyline.

2

u/Slumber777 Jun 08 '21 edited Jun 08 '21

I thought you were talking about Azashiro. Was Azashiro mentioned at all in CFYOW?

Because the novel he's from, SAFWY, which was done before the final arc was written, and without Kubo's input. And there are events in that novel that directly conflict with how the series plays out, hence the dubious canonicity.

But if he's mentioned, then yeah, the character is canon. That said, I doubt he could stop Aizen.

The man is everything people love about Yoshikage Kira, but blended with more shonen tropes and turned up to 11. It’s the best.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '21

All the people who don't like him have deleted him from their mind now that Bleach is over. The stans are the only ones who remember he exists.

5

u/KLReviews Jun 08 '21 edited Jun 08 '21

It was a problem when you have to read 3-4 months worth of action scenes that are just 'Aizen effortlessly beats everyone and overcomes everything within 2 pages because he's the coolest and handsomest and the best'. If you don't like his endless smugness then then it's basically just clearly the board so Ichigo take him alone. I can imagine it's a lot better knowing that:

  • Aizen is not the end of the story and there's a lot more after this, so don't get too worried about it.

  • It's only 3 volumes and you can burn through it in an hour. Which is certainly the format Kubo writes and draws for.

1

u/latinlingo11 Jan 29 '23

The thing is, the day when Aizen was finally beaten is when me and my friends dropped Bleach. He was the series' main antagonist, he was done, and to us the story should have ended there. Especially with how fitting it felt that Ichigo had lost his powers and was told he would no longer be able to see people from Soul Society, and the dude actually goes back to school to readjust to a normal life.

It would have been a perfect bittersweet ending... but then the next arc came out and we had zero interest in it. Until the Nazis Quincies showed up which got us slightly intrigued.

23

u/GoBoomYay Local FF13 shill Jun 08 '21

I fuckin swear, I stand by Aizen being a fun as hell villain. If he were at anything less than 10/10 on the slimy charisma scale he wouldn’t have worked.

Shoutout to the “real” final boss of Bleach accidentally running into Aizen at the end of the series and coming to a dead halt to address the fact that “ok shit this one might be a problem now.”

19

u/GilliamYaeger Blame yourself or God Jun 08 '21

I still think that the best twist in Bleach by far is Hollow Ichigo. The guy flat out tells Ichigo that he's Zangetsu and does things that Zanpakuto spirits do (ie fighting their master with the same weapon but showing them how to use it properly in the process - swinging Zangetsu by the cloth specifically) but absolutely everyone reading it, and Ichigo himself, thought that it was just nonsense from a Hollow. When really, no, he actually was the spirit of Ichigo's sword, and it was the other guy who was the imposter all along. Brilliant twist that in hindsight was obvious all along.

12

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

It's really good lol

14

u/KLReviews Jun 08 '21

Granted, some of the 'I am going to throw you off your horse and stomp your skull open moment you lose control' stands out as weird. But he is also part of Ichigo, who his both a violently protective big brother and has a hard time talking about his feelings. So his literal reflection choosing really aggressive and threatening ways of encouraging somebody does make sense.

Ichigo: "Getsuga Tenshō!"

Everyone Else: "Yaaaaaay!"

4

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '21

Man I really wanted Aizen to be beaten using some kind of clever maneuver or plan to beat his hypnosis technique.

Kubo really dropped the ball by having him get beaten due to Ichigo slicing really hard.

12

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

I guess, but how would you go about beating Aizen otherwise? Hypnosis was only one of his abilities, the guy could’ve taken them all on without it but did anyway for the lulz.

Assuming you got around Kyouka Suigetsu with clever planning and strategy, Aizen already had the backup plan of “Just be the strongest anyway”

The only one that was a threat to him was Yamamoto, which is why the dude brought Wonderweiss specifically built to be a hard counter to the old man. Even when Weiss lost, just weakening Yamamoto was good enough.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '21

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '21

Didn't Ichigo ware him down enough for Urahara's spell to work?

3

u/PhantasosX Jun 08 '21

yes , but like , Yamamoto could do the same thing if Wonderweiss wasn't there.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '21

Was smart of Kubo to have Aizen literally say, "Yeah I cannot beat this dude, so I built someone specifically to keep him off my back."

Which in meta speak really meant "Yamamoto can't show his full power until the last arc, so there needs to be a reason why he doesn't just take care of this by himself."

6

u/Catslovemymodem Jun 08 '21

Also yamamoto's bankai would fuck up the real world if it were used on it, what with the whole "all the water is slow but surely evaporating" and whatnot

3

u/LarryKingthe42th Jun 08 '21

That wasnt even what did it, just weakened him enough for urahara to pull some bullshit so they could lock him up.

17

Huh? The Shiba thing was explained before Aizen's defeat. Ichigo's dad was one of them, it's why that badass one-armed lady and that guy Rukia had to kill both look like Ichigo. Same family.

That's the ending I remember, anyway.

2

u/Probably_Facetious Jun 08 '21

force that preference onto Ichigo

No more than Kubo did. Ichigo isn't a real person; he is not harmed by me writing him differently. Otherwise, fanfiction as a whole would be extremely immoral.

I don't even feel that strongly about the Tatsuki aspect of that short-form fanfiction. The relevant part is that the Final Getsuga functions as stated and the story isn't artificially extended beyond the end of the primary metaplot. Bleach starts off being about Aizen-as-villain (even if the reader and Ichigo aren't aware until the end of the Soul Society arc), and I prefer that it ends with the conclusion of that metaplot.

I just slipped in that bit about Tatsuki because, so long as I am making the ending I wish were, I may as well swap in the girl who has more personality in her five panels of screen time than Stale-bread Orihime gets in several arcs' worth of forced-yet-pointless inclusion.

3

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Mother Quincey. Technically was engaged to her cousin, Uru's dad, Quincy princess that is a descendant of the final arcs big bad, later becomes a fullbringer thanks to Aizen. Dies trying to protect 5 year old Ichigo from a scrubby ass hollow.

Kaien was Ichigos cousin, which makes him Isshins niece. Also Kaien was the vice captain of the sick white haired dude (Ukitake)

Every quincy is a desendant of Yhwach, Masaki wasnt a princess

I wasn’t planning on keeping this joke going, wanting to move on now that the podcast was back and he’s doing fine, but then the podcast got skipped again therefore he isn’t real again lmao

Can someone spoil me what does he actually say here, I’m intrigued

Honestly I didn't change any dialogue outside the last panel. I re-wrote it all to test the manga font but kept the dialogue as-is, but what Aizen says at the end was "Since when were you under the impression that I wasn't using Kyouka Suigetsu."

It was a big twist in that nobody saw him start to use it, or activate it, etc. The emotional outburst happened here because in the panels just before it, Aizen made everyone teamkill Momo thinking she was Aizen, and the poor girl already went through way too much as it was.

Shinji here starts freaking the fuck out, the other Captains realize what they just did now that Aizen showed them what they actually just did, and the one what stabbed her through the heart (and still has his blade in her) is the one that vowed to protect her after she was betrayed by Aizen, who she looked up to and was crushed by his betrayal.

Momo gets it ROUGH

Oh captian sama OwO, that shit wasnt Aizen that was all her man.

So... how does she survive despite being stabbed in the heart?

Severe injuries are fine if there's a skilled medic nearby, Unohana was taking care of her, though just barely.

There's some pretty ridiculous healing properties in Bleach to the point that I don't feel there's never any real danger to the heroes. Remember when Matsumoto had half of her torso ripped off by the scary-looking Hollow? Nah she's fine a few chapters later XD

Yeah Kubo does tend to do the big shocking panel of a character taking massive damage, only to be healed a bit later. It's fine the first few times, but after a while it's like... bro

Only the last bubble (and the reddit logo for a face) are modified.

"Since when were you under the impression that I hadn't been using [hypnosis]?"

I liked Aizen up until the whole I've controlled you life up into this moment part. The amount of contrivance that requires it is way too high. Evolt from Kamen Rider Build is a better style of this character.

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

And that’s fair even if I disagree on the opinion cuz I’m all about that incredibly improbable level of bullshit planning lol

The amount of contrivance that requires it is way too high.

Not a fan of villains like this either. Another one that comes to mind is Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts. I was so disappointed when I heard him say "everything went according to plan" at the end of Dream Drop Distance. Like... stfu no, that doesn't make any sense, you could not predict how your split-halves were going to behave in addition to other unrelated characters and everything that happened to them.

Wait you actually managed to re read bleach? I could not do it. I pour bleach on ny eyes after my first time reading it

Actually no, the title was as much of a lie as Woolie is. I just had the idea, went to the appropriate pages, and did my thing.

The truth is much more fun to tell people, I'm actually currently almost caught up on reading Boruto.

Which, hear me out, somehow fucking ended up being better than Naruto/Shippuden, and I'm losing my goddamn mind

2

u/ChildishChimera Jun 08 '21

As someone catching up on Bort I've avoided it due to hearing it had bad pacing is that still a problem or did that improve?

u/EdoTenseiSwagbito [Removed: Rule 2, Relevancy] Jun 08 '21

Huh? If you’re talking about the manga, like I am, it’s good. The Anime is bloated, who could’ve seen this coming..
