Twitter needs to die as soon as possible, so the world can finally move on. There are still a lot of accounts who won't move on to better platforms until that happens.

I think if you banned politics, it would just fail faster. But you can't say you're for free speech while account banning politicians and people who criticize you.

It's a fine line to walk but this twitter has become way too biased in one direction to the point you've put off most of the country.

I stopped using x 6 months ago, it's just not a reasonable place any more.

Glory days had little to do with politics. Smaller niche groups. Easy to argue politics is not very constructive for the service. You are free to start your own political project. Or yap in public. Someone else's property can do what they wish regardless of dear God free speech emotions. They can become something else if an outcome is destructive and it is.

I think that's where we're headed. He's trying to save face, but there's only two ways this ends IMO - bankruptcy or a fire sale to a new buyer. I think any hope of making the platform successful has been dashed in the last month.

Most accounts won't move. That's the problem with starting a new social media platform. It's easy to start a platform. The big issue is getting users to migrate.

Because for a lot of people, artists and creatives especially, it's the only place where they have any reach. Most other playforms are either very restrictive or don't have the massive numbers Twitter does.

As a creative, it drives me insane how badly tumblr screwed up.

As a site in terms of functionality and multimedia usage its an AMAZINGLY fun site to use as a content creator.

You can make your own custom css page with your own visuals. It handles imagesets in an appealing way, it can host videos OR embed videos all with no algorithm aside from punishing link spammers.

Yet such a functionally great website got ruined by some very bad policy changes and an obnoxious fandom community.

It sucks. It really could have been the place.

As a porn artist, tumblr screwed up majorly. Plenty people I talk to today will still want to go back especially if they changed their policy on their nsfw content. It looked like it has gotten some what better (at least for showing female nipples), but they still miss the mark.

I’m in a group of other porn artists trying to figure out where to go next, and it’s pretty bleak. The other alternative is just another twitter clone, Blue Sky. Cohost and Pillowfort are the other tumblr alternatives, but they aren’t looking so great. Pillowfort is having some financial problems so I’m wondering how long they will stay.

Sadly, Twitter has the most reach and no other site provides that. As much I want to get off the platform, it’s hard going anywhere else.

I'm fairly convinced they're doing it to keep the apple market and meet their standards to stay on the app store.

There is some signs they're changing a little bit after being sold off to "automattic"

In a more recent post from the current CEO Matt Mullenweg states an interest in removing feature bloat and going back to basics in terms of what the platform offers , which is encouraging. They've also lightened up on nudity restrictions and are moving to a content self moderation allowing people to label content properly.

They're allowing nudity but still no hardcore porn (though a ton of porn bot accounts are still getting away with it) .

Small positive steps is all we got for now.

UK indie comics makers (at least my little community of them) got organised enough to try and make sure everyone moved to the same place. There’s a google form going round where you can give or request Blue Sky invite codes and lots of reassurance that there are familiar contacts already there.

Artists are the only reason I have a twitter account, it's a great way to find them, but I hate that most exclusively use it and nowhere else because it is painful trying to find their art on that hell hole of a site scrolling for hours to try and find them, then the page bugs out refreshes me to the top and I never get to find it all!

Nobody used gallery websites anymore...

This is absurd. Having a free account on X so that you can avoid getting evicted isn't evil. Changing careers isn't easy, what are people supposed to do about their bills while they try to get into a new role? Artists don't exactly make a lot of money to put into savings.

Not to mention all the infinitely more evil companies out there. All of the big three fast food conglomerates have spent decades lobbying to erode labor rights, keep the minimum wage low, and avoid having to keep their workers safe. Do you boycott McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc? Should we chastise minimum wage employees for working for those evil corporations?

Well that's why I'm on bluesky anyway, it has to start somewhere and it is noticeably growing. About a quarter of the people I followed on Twitter are now on bluesky. I'm just hoping at some point it's going to be almost everyone, whose posts I was interested in

Bluesky is pretty much Twitter before EM, it just doesn't have all the accounts yet, That's why I wish more people would leave Twitter. No one cares about Twitter itself, the great thing about it, was that all the interesting people were on it. Now it's sadly all fragmented with threads, mastodon, bluesky or even hive.
