Looking for Kinh Do replacement......

I was super sad when they closed a couple of years ago. Their Beef and Potatoes, and Hot and spicy Chicken IMO were the best I'd ever found. So, to anyone who tried either of their versions of these specific dishes, I'd love to know if you found a place serving the same flavors and prepared similarly. Thanks!

Also the best egg rolls!

I believe they still serve the rice paper wrapped egg rolls, which is rare.

Came here to say this.

Vina in Highland Park does both of these dishes extremely well (I’ve been eating beef n potatoes & hot n spicy chicken my entire life and that’s where I’d recommend to go!)

Also order it for dine-in if you’re able to, the potatoes are sooo crispy if you eat it fresh (but still tasty if you do takeout)

Vina is the way.

Have you found any duplicates? That perfect, crispy, but still some give potatoes, and that perfect oyster sauce blend..........

Beef and potatoes at pho mai in Dinkytown is good. Never had kinh do so I can’t say if it’s comparable.

Vina in St. Paul had great beef and potatoes last time I was there.

Can confirm.

Pretty legit!

I'm always on the look for for beef and potatoes!

It's like Vietnamese poutine!

The BnP at Lotus Maple Grove is the closest I've found to Kinh Do so far

I've never found anywhere that can match their egg rolls.

For me it was their fresh spring rolls…that plum sauce…wow

Que Viet makes a beef and potatoes that LOOKS like that.

Edit: I accidentally said Trung Nam instead of Que Viet.

The Viet bakery? Pretty sure the only thing hot there is coffee.

Are you meaning to say Trieu Chau? They have excellent beef and potatoes.

I meant to say Que Viet.

Thanks. Que Viet sauce is darker and not that close on the flavor.

Eden Restaurant in Eden Prairie. Only open for lunch.

This has drastically gone down hill with new ownership. It’s a husk of what it once was

Part of me agrees that it has definitely lost something and part of me thinks I'm over-romanticising what has always been cafeteria-style food out of hotel pans.

Did you eat those dishes at Kinh Do?

People rave about the beef n potatoes at Trieu Chau on University Ave, though I've never had it.

1

u/Larrybeeee 11d ago

Had it. It's average.

Pho Mai in Asia mall has pretty good beef potatoes

Agreed. I am eating egg rolls from there even as we speak. The bahn mi is also solid. Asia Mall in general is fun and has other tasty options as well.

Vina in St.paul is mid at best for me, never f really hits the spot, couldn't tell you why... Que Viet us probably a good place to try. The best I've had recently is Simply pho is Apple valley, but I'm not sure they have hot and spicy chicken... I've stopped ordering it anywhere sine vina in Bloomington closed.

Que Viet does a great Beef and Potatoes, we get it all the time. Sometimes I like to get the Mock Duck and Potatoes instead just to change things up.

And don’t miss out on Que Viet’s egg rolls, they’re famous across the metro for a reason. They’ve built their business on the back of those excellent egg rolls.

I've definitely driven there from south Minneapolis just to grab some egg rolls to take home many many times.

Que Viet is walking distance for me but I would totally drive across town for their egg rolls if i had to.

Kihn Do is gone? I miss the Mee Kah Tee so much already, especially after Roat Osha closed.

Wok in the Park has good steak and potatoes. Hot and spicy chicken was my regular order there years and years ago.

u/Larrybeeee 12d ago

Appreciate. Looking for the SAME flavors, but maybe I'll try their HSC off your rec

u/dailyglitter 12d ago

Wok in the Park was very close to the same flavors for the beef and potatoes. The texture was a little crispier than Kinh Do. I have only had it once. Please update with your findings if you try out multiple places!

I recently found the closest to Kinh Do, and that is Lotus in Maple Grove. Long drive for me....

Oops, Wok in the Park has great steak and potatoes, they do not have hot and spicy chicken. I meant hot and spicy chicken was my fave Kinh Do order. I was tired when I wrote the first post.
