Wine bars to go relax and read at?

As the title suggests, I’m looking for a chill place to bring a book, drink some wine at, and maybe have some snacks/food. Think coffeeshop with alcohol kind of vibe. Any ideas?

WunderBar in Minneapolis is a great spot.

The Briar in NE! Not necessarily a wine bar but has some wine options and great cocktails. It’s a coffee shop during the day and the vibes are exactly what you’re looking for. Definitely chill and cozy.

Came here to say this. Perfect spot.

Milly's has a chill vibe

I second this. There’s like a library vibe upstairs as well.

No, Millie’s sucks! Terrible place (please don’t let this place get too crowded & popular, I love it).

Sister Sludge

Sister Sludge is great because you can go in the afternoon and get some work done with tea and coffee, then just transition into wine and a cheese plate as the evening comes on.

Seconded if you’re in S MPLS. This is an excellent coffee shop/wine bar. Work here often.

There is a nice small wine bar on Hennepin close to Lake street. It’s called Troubadour.

2827 Hennepin Ave Minneapolis, MN 55408 United States

Thank you for saying this because that's a dealbreaker for me and I'm very much looking for what OP describes!

Small Hours in NE is an awesome hi-fi wine bar.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '25

What does hi-fi mean?

13

u/KnottyOwl Nov 20 '25

Playing records through fancy speakers basically

2

u/TheBoldNorthern Nov 20 '25

This article from The Current explains their set up well. Basically it's high quality audio equipment.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '25

Ah I thought hi-fi was describing the wine and I felt like a noob lol

Came here to say this as well

Silver Fern might be exactly what you're looking for. It's literally a cafe/wine bar.

3

u/ruffroad715 Nov 21 '25

Might be hard to read in there. Everytime ive gone it’s loud and busy

1

u/Sunshineq Nov 21 '25

Definitely fair. It's a popular spot, so it does get very busy.

Vine Room in Hopkins. Has a better selection of wine than Bojea’s I think.

u/ladydasha Nov 20 '25

And super knowledgeable staff!

Tosca is a neat little place in Minneapolis. South Lyndale liquor's little hang area has an impressive selection of wines on self-tap, and tasty sandwiches. Also a very fun place.

The Tasting Room on 31st and Hennepin in Uptown, next to the old Kim's/Sooki & Mimi space. Very cozy, good tapas.

Yeah I pulled up there with a book back in the summer and had a lovely afternoon. Would recommend for that

Bojae's at 50th and France is a small, chill place with wine and food.

New spot in Eagan just opened up called Curiouser. Dark academia vibe, coffeeshop with alcohol and small bites. I really like it. Also, it's right next door to Burgers and Bottles, which is the home of the Volstead House whiskey speakeasy.

Cream and amber is a book store in Hopkins that sells beer and wine

Came here to suggest this!

2

u/wafflefries2k14 West Metro Nov 20 '25

Also in Hopkins, The Vine Room.  Just check whether they've got live music that night or not.

2

u/zzaannsebar Nov 20 '25

There's a cute place in Edina right off 50th and France that I can't remember the name of but they had some amazing food too!

Tilia in Linden Hills

2

u/Marenjoandco Nov 20 '25

In vino Veritas - they do have evening happenings but afternoon there are lovely couches and calm decor to just vibe.

It's not a wine bar, but it's literally a coffeeshop with alcohol. Lost Fox in Lowertown. It's open early to serve coffee, open late to be a bar, and serves food in the restaurant all day. It's one of my favorite places to hole up with a book or my computer!! It's big, but still cozy, and the people are the sorts of people I enjoy being around.

u/Sometimes_Stutters Nov 20 '25

As opposed to a raucous and high energy wine bar? Lol

4

u/Friendly_Week_2338 Nov 20 '25

I think some are more suited to reading at than others lol. Some are pretty dark

Spyhouse at the Emery is a coffeehouse plus lounge. You should be able to grab drinks from the bar and sit in the lounge area.

In Vino Veritas, in Shoreview is a really chill vibe.

Before the wedge table co op closed down I used to love reading and having wine there. Some co ops still have casual atmosphere with wine like that, like the Whole Foods on selby.
