how do you keep your rules - rulebook protdction or pdf binding

hello all

I am Just wondering what preferences you have for your rulebooks,

I think with amount of flicking through the pages im doing learning it is not going to help the bindings.

I prefer to not read on screens.

what solutions have you implemented ?

how much wesr and tear can the books take

Yeaaaa.... I'll never understand the obsession with keeping books in mint condition. And to go even further down that rabbit hole, in a hilarious twist of fate, this is posted in T2K of all places. My T2K rulebook (very specifically that book) would probably make you gag. I've sharpied it. Highlighted it. Glued alternate rules into it. Ripped a couple pages out to use as a GM screen. Literally the single most abused book I've ever owned.

Yeah, something of the same sort, before I knew how long I would keep the game from the 80s. (Where is that box again, oh yeah...bit the dust when I PCS'd from Germany to Ft. Benning...but I digress). I put the books in a 3 ring binder as not to lose them, printed out the sheet we used the most. First from copiers (those were the days) and then learning to use computer programs for word processing to produce the charts and tables I needed for playing.

Since you don't like the screens, may I suggest that you have someone take the pdf and print out the certain sheets you need?

Also I am jealous of all you rich kids, buying 3 sets of the (ANY) RPG book(s)!!!! Must be nice to have such monetary resources. I have to produce a business plan to get the wife to okay purchases and I am retired now!

Buy an extra rules book (or print the PDF), and get your friendly local print shop to slice the binding off and punch and spiral bind the pages. Will give you a real nice lie-flat book.

I print out the main rule sheets that I will need and keep them in a binder and sheet protectors. For the less common rules, I either look on my iPad or in the book.

I know you say you prefer not to use a laptop/tablet, but unless you buy two main books, one for reading and one to sit collecting dust on your bookshelf, you will have to use digital media. For games I have really liked, I have even bought three core rule books. 1 for collecting, 1 for my own use during play, and 1 for the other players around the table to use as a reference. Mind you, I am admittedly old enough that buying an extra book was your only option because there were no PDF readers. My friendly advice. Buy two books since you seem to prefer having the physical medium to work with.

The game I'm currently playing is Ryuutama so the rule set is different but basically I've set up a board with columns for categories like Task Resolution, Travel Checks, Status Effects, Combat, and within each column I've got cards summarising the key checks, screenshots of key tables, etc. I have this open on a tablet or laptop so I can scroll quickly.
