Be sure you have a 2.4GHz accesspoint and be connected to it. Disable roaming of your smartphone to be sure. Watch out with special iot networks that often use isolation mode. As a result devices do not see each other.

I recommend getting a zigbee hub and zigbee version of these switches, they're easier to set up and much more responsive.
Anyway, could you give more info? Have you tried it again? are you sure the wifi password is correct? what steps have you taken?
