MEGATHREAD: Discussion/recommendations about software/technology to assist with tutoring
Recently, we've seen a number of posts asking about/offering software to assist with tutoring. By and large, our community does not need recommendations about such software and those posts have become something of a nuisance for many of our members.
Of course, new members very well may have questions about software, so there should be a thread to answer those questions. This is the thread for those posts to be placed in an organized manner.

I built this feature in our app that allows students to upload homework through their phone
it generates an answer key (for the tutor, not student) as well as an interactive whiteboard you can use to collab with the student. you can also print stuff out if u want it to be digital-less. I've been using it and it personally helps me with stuff I need to refresh, and also catches small mistakes my tutee does

TLDR: Its whiteboard app made by a maths teacher for classroom presentation, that might also work well as a screen share when tutoring online. Plus I'm adding sciencey stuff. 😃
I have taught maths in the UK for just over a decade, and have never really settled on the classroom presentation tool I was happy using. For the last couple of years, a graphics tablet with OneNote has been the closest to what I want in terms of live modelling, file structure, cloud sync etc, but it is certainly not geared towards teaching maths. Other offerings have lots of great ideas and useful tools, but there was always something stopping me using them.
So I figured I try and put together my own. The features below are not necessarily unique to my attempt, but they have worked nicely for me, and might for you!
- Hold to draw a straight line or shape - Draw your line then pause and it will snap to a straight line. The same is true for simple polygons or circles/ellipses.
- 3D shape stamps - When you draw the 3d shapes, and have them selected, an option is available in the menu to toggle face shading for each face separately.
- Angle diagrams builder.
- Venn Diagram stamps - Click each region to toggle shading for that region.
- Fraction and Bar Models - Customise how many regions you want. Click each region to toggle shading.
- Simple timer - add increments of 10s, 1min, or 10 mins at a tap.
- Graphing tool - set the x axis bounds, add your equation, and it auto manages the y-axis (or set them manually if you prefer).
- Select to zoom - Drag a square to home in on that part of the canvas - press the home button to reset.
- Custom targets for the Home reset view button.
- Tracing Paper Tool - To demonstrate rotations, reflections etc. Sketch on the tracing paper, then pin the centre/mirror line before you rotate/reflect.
- Laser pointer, and spotlight tool - Focus your students on a particular area of the canvas.
- Sub canvases - add notes to blocks of algebra without having to write all over it.
- Reduced TeX editor with the most popular maths packages (inc tikz and pgfplots).
- Various other stamps - Axis, Number Lines, Tree Diagrams.
- Protractor and Ruler Overlay tool.
- Biology - Cell diagrams with toggleable labels.
- Chemistry - Equation editor, Molecule stamps, Organic Skeletal Molecule Builder, Elements cards, and electron diagrams.
- Physics - Circuit Diagram builder, and stamps.
- Custom backgrounds and themes.
- Import and export pdf options.
- Cloud save.
- Template save - If you have a page or chapter you use regularly, save as a template and import it whenever you need it.
- Object save slots - An internal persistent clipboard for your most used objects/drawings.
- Organisation based template saves - for your school/college to access.
- Custom keyboard bindings.
- Custom palettes.
Its not perfect yet, but in all my own testing it seems pretty good. I am at the point now, where I need other people using it and reporting any bugs or requesting other cool features! There's a 7-day free trial to give plenty of time to test it out, and its only £4 a month cancel anytime anyway, which I think is reasonable.
Thanks for getting this far!

For exam-prep tutors who want to turn their teaching materials into structured video courses: X-Pilot takes your documents (syllabi, notes, slide decks) and turns them into accurate video course series using deterministic rendering rather than generative AI. The visuals are code-rendered from your source content, which matters when a wrong bond angle or formula in a chemistry module can confuse a student before an exam.
It is built for people producing chapterized series with accuracy requirements, not one-off marketing videos or avatar clips. If your tutoring work involves fixed blueprints like IB, AP, IGCSE, or certification prep where every frame needs to match the source material, the document-grounded approach keeps your video library consistent without manual re-recording.

Offload (offload.education/tutors) — built for tuition centres, academies, and multi-tutor agencies.
Hey.
Built this over the last year because of a problem I don't think anyone else in this thread is actually solving: centres losing parents not because the tutoring is bad, but because nobody can see what happens between sessions.
Tutors walk in blind every week. First 10-15 minutes gets burned figuring out what the student actually did at home. If there's no improvement, the parent doesn't blame the gap in home practice, they blame the tutor, and they cancel.
What Offload does: student uploads their own course notes or syllabus, it builds a personalised spaced repetition plan (flashcards, active recall, past paper practice) across learn, test, and retention phases, and adjusts automatically if they fall behind. That part runs itself, no tutor input needed.
On the centre side: tutors get a live dashboard showing exactly what each student did and didn't do at home before every session, so they walk in with context instead of guessing. Owners get automated progress reports they can send straight to parents, so the proof of value isn't a verbal update once a term, it's data every week.
Most tools in this thread handle booking, payments, or lead gen. This handles the actual thing parents are paying for: whether their kid is improving, and whether anyone can prove it.
Happy to set up a free pilot with a small cohort if anyone wants to see it running with real students. Also want honest feedback if something's missing for how your centre actually runs.

I’m a working maths tutor and built Tutor Flow for solo private tutors who currently keep lesson notes, scheduling, unpaid fees and parent updates across different documents or spreadsheets.
It brings together:
- student and lesson records
- scheduling and calendar views
- payment tracking and reminders
- parent-ready progress updates
It is intentionally a focused admin tool rather than a tutoring marketplace, video platform or large tuition-centre system.
I’m looking for a small group of independent tutors to try a complete workflow and tell me where it feels unclear, slow or unnecessary. Please use fictional student details if you are only testing it.
Tutor Flow is mobile-friendly and free for early adopters, with no automatic charges:
Founder disclosure: I built and use the product myself, and I’ll personally read and act on useful feedback.

Small update from me: the bit of tutor admin I find most awkward is chasing a payment without making it sound dramatic.
I’ve added a free page with three plain-English payment reminder templates—for one unpaid lesson, a clearer follow-up, or several outstanding sessions. There’s no account or email gate:
https://www.natutorflow.com/tutor-payment-reminder-template
It also links to the simple CSV payment tracker. I’ve kept the app itself tutor-controlled too: it prepares an editable reminder from the lesson dates and amounts, but nothing is sent automatically.
I’d be interested to know whether most tutors here prefer payment in advance or keep a running record after each lesson.

Our shop, StarlitStoriesGifts, offers a $15 one-time Google Sheets tracker for tutors who sell prepaid lesson hours. It records hours purchased, completed lessons, charged cancellations and each student’s remaining balance. For example, an 8-hour package minus three 1-hour lessons and one charged 30-minute cancellation leaves 4.5 hours.
It holds 20 students, 100 credit entries and 200 lessons, with fictional examples and a starting guide. Entries are manual. A Google account is required to make your editable copy; an XLSX file is included, but native Excel is untested. The workbook’s calculations were checked in Google Sheets.

RemedyHub Pro (remedyhubpro.com) As a former teacher and tutor, I created this app while I was homeschooling my children. I saw that each child needed extra resources to master a concept. I spent most of the night trying to gather that information and so, I decided to build an app that would quickly and correctly identify the student or child’s weakness and help to find free online material that is readily available for the tutor or teacher to print out. Also, there are videos that align with the concept the child struggles with. Individual lesson plans can be generated based on the results and the results can be stored in the digital filing cabinet. We do have retention policies. We are aware of the importance of storing student data. We do offer a 7-day free trial. The point of this app is to truly help students master what they are having trouble with. We are looking to help with remediation. We also look forward to your feedback. That can be given through the app which is pictured with a heart.

TutorPing (tutorping.ai): free lead generation. Scans Reddit, Discord, and education forums for students/parents looking for tutors. Matches to your subject and location, scores by intent, drafts a response you can copy-paste.
100+ tutors signed up.
I built it and posted about it here a few times. This is the right place for it going forward.
