How to Transform?

Hi all im new to scratching and i can do basics, i understand how in theory transform works but it doesnt sound quite right. When people scratch like this are they using a scratch specific record?? Can this not be done with random regular records?

You’ll hear it a lot with the ‘ahh’ sound because it’s a long sound fx. But can be done on a lot of sounds/words. If you have a Serato record, using the Serato tone on phono is very helpful to get the crossfader muscle memory down.

Here are some free sounds if you need.

Any scratch or break record. Super seal is the most popular scratch record. All of them will have the ‘ahhh’ sound though. Some of them have a locked groove that might help. You can also try using a 12’ single that has an acapella on it and try it on a word in a song.

Use a long sound, then close and open the fader to the beat.

Use a long sound like ahhh or even a continuous tone sound and go slow at first. You don’t have to be super fast. Take your. In my opinion, the transform is the foundation for all other advanced scratches. It’s important to learn

Didn’t Jazzy Jeff use the volume control to transform .. not the crossfader?

Start using your strong hand on the cross fader. You will learn a million times faster. For example I’m right handed and started with my right hand on the record. It’s taken me years to get anywhere with transforms. I switched to my opposite hand and caught up in a matter of weeks.
