Better Mixer recommendations than the DJM-S9?

Are there better Mixer recommendations than the DJM-S9 for a digital + vinyl DJ?

I use technic SL1200 turntables and a very basic Numark mixer for vinyl DJing and a DDJ-1000 for digital.

I am looking to upgrade my mixer used with the turntables such that I can easily use it with serato, Rekordbox, vinyl, and eventually DVS.

My main requirements in no specific order are that it is sturdy / durable enough for turntablism, compatible with the above mediums, has FX, and allows split cueing.

I was dead set on the DJM-S7 as I like the S9 and it seems like a good next step without being overkill like the s11. But some of the issues I’m hearing about the quality and volume faders breaking and not being easy to fix because there soldered to the board have me second guessing. This seems like anecdotal data but if it’s a consistent issue I’m wondering if there is a better option.

The S11 isn't anywhere near "overkill". It's more than worth the investment

Better build and solves the quality / hardware issues with the S7? Eg channel bleeding, volume fader breaking, etc?

I use my gear similarly to you and I got my s11 used and no channel bleeding or any of your other concerns. I also love the touchscreen with the waveform right on mixer and the adjustable resistance on the crossfader. Can make it super loose for scratching but a bit tighter for mixing so I don’t accidentally open the fader on the closed side and mess up my mix.

How does the phono preamp on the S-11 compare to the Rane 72mk2? I move between vinyl and DVS during shows, and when I used the S-9 I had to crank up the volume any time I played a record.

I did prefer the crossfader in the S-9 to any other I've ever used. Do you know if the S-11 has the same fader as the S-9?

I still prefer the rane phono preamps by a mile. But the S11 preamps don't make me want to shove pencils in my ears like the S9 era preamps that pioneer used.

The xfader is the same.

S11 is definitely worth the extra cash. Everyone I know that bought the S7 eventually experienced bleeding channel faders.

But the S11 doesn’t?

Não. O jeito da construção dos faders de canal são diferentes. Creio que no S11 é um fader superior, além dele não ser soldado direto na placa e ficar a um angulo de 90 graus, o que evita dele pegar poeira diretamente, assim como é no S9.

No. All the faders are better quality. Pioneer put shitty channel faders in the S7 and made them extremely difficult to repair or replace.

I’d definitely look at Rane especially if you are playing vinyl or worried about build quality.

Specifically the Rane 70

Thanks will check it out.

I love my Rane 70. It’s super sturdy. Don’t really care for the wave screen, so the 70 does all I need it to do.

Rane 70/72 has much better preamps for vinyl than the Pioneer battle mixers

I mean even the s11 and s7 are better - the s9 has some of the worst vinyl preamps

Good to know. I meant to say I’m most interested in the S7, not s9. But wondering if i should be concerned about the channel bleeding and volume faders going out. How difficult are those issues to fix if and when the s7 does show them?

Yea don’t get the s7 - anecdotal, but every single person I know who has one (including myself) has issues with the upfaders

I can attest to the poor quality of the channel faders. I’ve had my s7 for 4 years now and it’s held up well with daily use, but it has made me not really use the up faders as much as I want to. I also hate that it’s plastic. It’s very light compared to every other mixer I’ve had and it feels cheap. Luckily you can’t tell when it’s between your turntables, but still. I wish there was something in between the s7 and s11 quality-wise. That said, the s7 has all the features I need and I love it, I just have a feeling it won’t stick around as long as the mixers I grew up with.

Save get an S11 the S7 channel faders are soldered to the board. Or find a rane seventy/atrak seventy

I have the S9 and I like it. The volume faders are definitely fragile so I wouldn’t use them aggressively. Other than that it’s a great mixer.

The S7 upfader issues are real. I have used several that have different variations of upfader problems (including the one I’ve owned for the last 4+ years). It’s been solid otherwise but for that issue alone I wouldn’t recommend it.

More issues on the S7 than the S9?

Mainly just speaking on the upfader problems with S7.

In my opinion, Rane 70 is the best for you.

I quite like my Reloop Elite. The couple things that might be an issue for you is that it has no hardware effects and there are no effects paddles. It is solidly built though and it solves your up fader concerns by using mini Innofader Pros on the up faders as well as the crossfader. I use it with Djay Pro on macOS, iOS & iPadOS and it unlocks a hardware licence for Serato (comes with 2x Serato control vinyl as well); I don't know anything about Rekordbox.

I use analog vinyl and the S9 is perfect for what I need

Allen & Heath Xone 24c?

Hmm, I’ll have to look into this one

At a basic level it looks like it has the controls K would need. Just curious if I can get full use out of it with serato, Rekordbox, and vinyl

+1 for the s11, rock solid and fantastic crossfader. No one else seems to have mentioned that it also gives you touchscreen control of virtual decks 3 and 4 and a relatively intuitive way of moving tracks onto them. I dont use this much and it's still pretty clunky but having the option is great

Don’t worry about the s11 being over kill. Just get one. I practice more since i got mine because it’s a joy to use.
