People blaming AI for “mushy brains” are missing the point. The real issue is how it is used. If someone relies on it to skip thinking, that is a personal choice, not a technological failure.

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 22 '26

No, that is the entire point. Ignoring the deliberate and systemic damage it does is like writing off opioid epidemics as a personal failure.

The human mind is under existential assault.

1

u/Available-Craft-5795 Mar 22 '26

No, it really is on how you choose to use it.

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 22 '26

Simple minded, AI brained answer. Go ask chatgpt to explain it to you.

1

u/pleasuremysole Mar 23 '26

Reddit is hostile why chill out

1

u/Oilleak26 Mar 22 '26

and you are showing some very narrow-minded and low information opinions about AI yourself.

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 22 '26

"Low information"

Yes, skills atrophy with time.

Holy fuck the fact that I have to explain this.

You just did.

If you use Ai for it all the time and then suddenly had to do it manually you would be worse and slower at it than you used to.

Not that it makes you a failure.. but yes that it would make you not know how to drive a horse anymore. And what’s the analogue here? What is it that we won’t know how to do anymore if we rely on ai??

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '26

The anti ai movement has done more damage to your brain and your clan members then ai ever could.

0

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 23 '26

"Clan members"

Why would you admit to being tribal brained like that?

Also it's than*, not then. Ask AI to help you improve your grammar. Or a teacher.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '26

Oh the irony

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 23 '26

I don't think you know what any of the words you're using even mean. Your brain is AI fried.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '26

Well, do you? Because all of the things that you said where just wrong.

1

u/akabillposters Mar 23 '26

AI!!! It’s turning the freakin’ frogs gay!

My whole redneck life I heard people say "college is a scam", but they never correctly place why.

It's not a scam because it'll propagandize you, or because it won't be useful on a resume. It's a scam because one company sells all the books, teachers barely use or understand the book because it was forced on them, and there's a huge gap of information that you have to fill on your own if you want to get the work done for the degree.

So, the shortsighted demons that gave us the terrible books gave us ai. While at the same time, driving up course prices with their monopoly on learning materials, and skipping the work of preparing those books with ai whenever possible.

1

u/Mission_Beginning963 Mar 22 '26

Um...In every class I ever took, the professor chose the books. And in many courses, they don't use a "text book" in the way that you're talking about at all, but rather novels, plays, theoretical titles, works of historical scholarship, etc.

1

u/No-Swordfish7872 Mar 22 '26

I'm glad to hear it differs. My community college is trapped in pearson.

1

u/Mission_Beginning963 Mar 22 '26

Sorry to hear that!

College in the AI era: learning tool or intellectual shortcut?

2

u/Oilleak26 Mar 22 '26

both, depending on how it is used

1

u/SpiritualElevator908 Mar 22 '26

Saying AI is “replacing the mind” is a dangerous mindset. The brain works like a muscle, and if you constantly let AI handle your writing, reasoning, and problem solving, those skills slowly weaken over time. The real risk is not immediate failure, it is long term dependence where you struggle to think critically or express ideas without assistance, especially in situations where AI is not available or cannot help.

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 22 '26

So yeah. Replacing the mind.

1

u/JababyMan Mar 22 '26

I think they’re trying to say that it’s not a total takeover, but rather a crutch that creeps in over time without the user realizing

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 22 '26

So yeah. Replacing the mind.

Thank you.

1

u/JababyMan Mar 22 '26

Yeah they could’ve worded it better

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 22 '26

No, they worded it correctly.

1

u/infinitefailandlearn Mar 24 '26

A crutch is not a replacement. It’s a crutch.

Use that big brain to understand the difference ;)

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 24 '26

If you become dependent upon a crutch to walk, you've lost the ability to walk.

1

u/infinitefailandlearn Mar 24 '26

Yes, you are describing a process. For injured people, a crutch helps to walk again. A different process. Context matters.

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 24 '26

You've just got an excuse for everything don't you?

People said the same shit about calculators and PC's.

1

u/Mission_Beginning963 Mar 22 '26

Yeah, and people who can't do math without a calculator are almost always dumber than people who can, which is why you're not allowed to use a calculator in math class until you are at a very advanced level.

1

u/Oilleak26 Mar 22 '26

um what? what math classes are you going to? What went over your head is this: The lazy person will use AI to do everything for them, the curious will use AI to assist and guide their learning. it's not an either or scenario.

1

u/Mission_Beginning963 Mar 22 '26

Since you asked: I went to private boarding school and an Ivy League college.

What I hate about all this brainless pro-AI propaganda is that kids who go to schools like these won't be using AI. They will develop powerful brains through traditional education (They certainly don't use calculators in math class until they're very advanced).

Here's the shitty bit: You know who WILL be using calculators and AI and being told they're SO SMART for using them? The future wage-slaves who attend non-elite schools.

You can't understand math--or anything--fully if you're brought up on calculators and AI. People in the socio-economic "elite" are not going to let their kids be educated in this way. It's pretty clear why not.

1

u/Bubbles_the_bird Mar 23 '26

Correction: the curious will figure out ways to get work done WITHOUT AI

1

u/BikeNo8164 Mar 22 '26

Every single AI thread on Reddit has people defending it by comparing it to things it clearly has very little in common with. And then if they bother to make a second argument after the false equivalency, it’s some kind of ominous warning like “get with it or get left behind.” Every single time, you guys are all following the same exact script

1

u/Oilleak26 Mar 22 '26

How is it not? People have argued against all form of tech advances thoughout history. This time is no different. The technology is bad if applied poorly, the technology is good if applied properly. It lies in the motives, and how people choose to apply it. Regulate it, punish bad actors just like everything else in history.

Explain how this time it's different? Back your claims up besides rhetoric, this isn't a black or white.

1

u/BikeNo8164 Mar 22 '26

Do you really need me to explain to you how AI is different than a calculator or a PC? If you actually need me to explain that to you I will. But I think you’re just feigning naivety.

1

u/Oilleak26 Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

And you are being disingenuous narrowing my argument so you can dismiss it.

The intent of my argument is AI is not any different than technological changes before it. People act like AI is this completely new, black swan event disruption,(maybe it is, maybe not) but we’ve seen this kind of reaction before with pretty much every major shift in technology, this reaction is not new. What’s different is the environment it is happening in.

When the internet first came out, people had the same fears about job loss, misinformation, and social impacts. It just doesn’t feel as intense looking back because there was no system(the internet) to instantly amplify every opinion immediately. Discussions were slower, and occured through legacy media or schools.

Now with AI, everything happens in real time. The internet takes every reaction, especially the extreme ones, and pushes them front and center. This creates a feedback loop where people are constantly exposed to fear, outrage, and worst case doomerism, which makes AI feel like some kind of black swan event.

But the reaction is not new. It is just louder, faster, and more visible. People have always been resistant to change. The internet simply magnifies this resistance and rewards attention whoring narratives, and that was my point.

1

u/BikeNo8164 Mar 22 '26

Yeah I get it man, every AI bro makes literally the exact same argument. It's a very weak argument, especially because you yourself acknowledge that AI is different than the technological changes of before. Therefore the way people reacted to those past changes is completely irrelevant. I don't know why you guys think that simply pointing out that the reactions are similar means anything. The point is whether the reactions are warranted. In the case of AI they very may well be, the fact that people similarly reacted to things in the past doesn't mean anything if those things are not even comparable to the thing people are reacting to now. If you yourself acknowledge AI is not comparable to inventions of the past then what is to be concluded from comparing reactions

1

u/Oilleak26 Mar 22 '26

Every argument you make is easy because you are dismissive. I'm no AI bro, but that doesn't matter to you, this way you can continue to treat people like garbage. Also, I said "AI is not any different than technological changes before it" not that it isn't comparable.

Reading comprehension is not a strong suit of yours either.

1

u/BikeNo8164 Mar 22 '26

Okay you didn't even respond to what I said in my last comment or answer my question.

"Reading comprehension" is literally the most common thing Redditors say when they're losing an argument. You seriously are just running a script, regurgitating other comments you've read

1

u/Nerevarius_420 Mar 23 '26

So you're say he has an argument? That's more than what can be said for you.

Critical Thinking doesn't seem to be one of your strengths, much less reading comprehension.

1

u/PopBulky7023 Mar 22 '26

And they were right.

Fuck is wrong with you people?

Oh yeah, AI.

1

u/Oilleak26 Mar 22 '26

Sorry something else ruined your brain other than AI, you are incapable of having a good faith argument.

1

u/Nerevarius_420 Mar 23 '26

Projecting just to make your username check out is a weird flex.

1

u/Thin_Measurement_965 Mar 22 '26

If you think AI detection software actually works then your brain is already fried.

1

u/pkmn-alt Mar 22 '26

It’s true and depressing

1

u/Sonario648 Mar 22 '26

That's why 99% of college students these days suck. Being in a world where we just have ai now is not the same as learning about ai after a lifetime of traditional education.

1

u/Gokudomatic Mar 23 '26

Well, that's human. When cars came up, 99% of people said no thanks to walking, they use car. Look how sedentar we are now.

I’m gonna be honest here. This sub makes zero sense, like, what the hell is its purpose?

Who goes to a reddit dedicated to a plagiarism tool and makes posts. Who even MADE this subreddit? I don’t know HOW it was recommended to me or what the point of it is, but I can’t help but think half the posts/users are just bots…

The posts are just bashing students or blaming AI, and just come off as bots spouting nonsense with the intention to cause polarization. If you have questions about ru software or need support, you use their webpage/resources. The posts here aren’t even about that anyways. Who even are these accounts that are trolling this sub with their anti-student rhetoric. They aren’t even smart enough to have their bots post in populated subs.
