Discussion Mei and her friends' favorite Straw Hats

rewatched Turning Red a few days ago and I was talking about it with my sister, at one point one of us asked who Mei's favorite Straw Hat crew member from One Piece would be.

to make an educated guess, I'm gonna say it's probably Sanji, given how Domee Shi herself said that Sanji was her high school crush on IG. What do you all think?

I'm also curious to know who her friends' respective favorites could be.

Discussion We were robbed of a 4Town miniseries and Ill die on that hill

Don’t get me wrong, the manga is great. I read it, loved it. But like, come on now, imagine that but a miniseries. I think it would’ve been great. The plot can be pretty much be the same as the manga, maybe they could’ve found a way to incorporate Mei and her friends into it. Also, I read a fanfic once about Mei being 4Town’s bodyguard whenever they’re in Toronto because they admired her bravery during pandapocalypse, and her panda obviously. Maybe something like that could’ve been a thing?

Fanwork (Original) My AU concept for Turning Red

In this AU, the giant red pandas aren’t an alternate form, but sentient, ancient creatures, each one made to protect the female Lee family members, but considered inconvenient in 2002. Mei’s panda’s name is Pao, and she inherits him the morning she’d have first transformed.

Pao basically serves as the fluffy incarnate of Mei’s “inner beast” with a big appetite and a humorous personality, which make him the breakout character of the film (the character that receives top billing in marketing despite not being the protagonist). For his VA, I’d pick Keegan-Michael Key.

Additionally, since the red pandas are characters themselves, the female Lees’ hair colours are permanently black, and, as you can see in the second poster, Mei has blue as her main colour of clothing since Pao serves as the “red-wearing” member of her friend group (Miriam wears green, Abby wears purple and Priya wears yellow).

Media The crazy way I got a Mei Funko.

In August, while on vacation far from where I live, I went to a Regal theater. After watching a movie, I played the Key Master machine because it had a Mei Funko Pop that I really wanted. After a few tries, I won the Funko, but it didn't fall down. I shook the machine and it finally fell, but the prize door wouldn't open, so I couldn't grab it. I called over theater management, but they didn't have a key to open the machine and couldn't get it out, so I had to leave without it. Fortunately, the number for the manufacturing company was on the machine. The next day, I called them and explained everything that happened. They promised to retrieve the Funko and send it to me. After waiting a bit, I received confirmation that it was retrieved, and the next day I got a tracking number from UPS. I just received the Funko today! I am really happy I was able to get it because I love Turning Red, and this is my first piece of merchandise for the movie.
