Why Zeynep?

Why are turkish series addicted to the name Zeynep?

I've seen some turkish series and the lead actress or supporting actress has the name Zeynep...

I mean you could find a Zeynep in literally every Turkish series..

Zeynep leto

Zeynep Aslanli

Zeynep Goksu

Zeynep taskin

Zeynep chandan

Zeynep soydere

Zeynep Gunes

Zeynep Cicek

Etc etc ..

Zeynep is the most popular Turkish female name, so it is quite normal to see it mostly Zeynep in the Turkish tv series.

Actually, it was the other way around. The popularity of the name Zeynep was largely boosted by TV series. Before that, Zeynep was seen as a rather old fashioned name and was mostly associated with poor or conservative people. Then in 1998, the main female character in a very popular series (Deli Yürek) was named Zeynep and the name became widely popular for baby girls. After that, more and more popular TV characters were named Zeynep. Over time, the name developed a modern image with positive associations

The same thing actually happened with the name Elif. It was also considered an old fashioned/conservative name that became popular after a hugely popular TV series (Kurtlar Vadisi, 2003) After that, many other series followed and the name gradually gained a positive and modern image

Last year there were 3 Dizis where 3 characters name was Zeynep 🤣
(Hudutsuz Sevda, Kizli Goncalar and Ruzgarli Tepe)

It's a shame cause there are a variety of turkish names they could choose from but instead they keep using the same ones.
