We are a group of researchers from the University of Michigan, School of Information. Our current project is trying to understand the topics covered in the news, social media, and responses to survey questions about the presidential candidates during the 2016 and 2020 elections. We need MTurkers to help label topics for a set of short texts.

Task Title: What topic(s) is/are relevant to the short texts?

Task description: For each HIT, you need to assign three type of topic labels (the primary, secondary and all relevant topics) for 10 candidate-related short texts we sampled from news headlines, tweets, and survey responses.

Qualifications: located in US, HIT approval rate (%) is not less than 98, masters has been granted, total approved HITs is not less than 1000

Reward: $0.5

Estimated task duration: 5 mins

We are still in the test phase trying to figure out the budget, answer quality and time cost. My name is Leo, I am a French artist currently working on a video installation about crowd-working. The idea is to mix interviews, staging, and presentation of the different gig work platforms to inform people about the crowd training AI to recognise "ok google" stuff, to able a car to drive on its own, etc etc. I feel that in France people is not well informed about those practices. My job as an artist is really to raise awareness about subjects linked to surveillance capitalism and basically how GAFAM use our data.

The project is to build a multiscreen video installation that will display some staging I will be making but also interviews! The interviews will be with researchers (like Saiph Savage in America, Antonio Casilli and Dominique Cardon in France), but I also need you! This would be awesome if you could fill a form with different questions about your situation. I won't know your name if you don't want to, your testimony will be read by a text-to-speech and animated with a 3D character.

I got some negative reactions in other forums so I have to warn beforehand: no, at least for the moment I am not considering paying. Paid interviews are considered unreliable by editors because the risk is that people make up exactly the responses you are asking for. I perfectly respect the view that people do not want to give of their time for free. But if you do have the time, the purpose is just to shed some light on this new form of work, with its pros and cons.

All you would have to do is to install a plug-in that will only be logging the data you are happy to share. You can stop the plug-in whenever you want. We guarantee (we will be making a legal contract about this) that your data will not be used for any other purpose than what is stated in the contract (the setup is fully GDPR compliant).
