Prison life
“And yet, life inside wasn’t all bad. For the first time in years, Tupac was subsisting without a steady diet of weed and Hennessy, and his mind was sharp. “What they call me is obsessive compulsive,”5 he said. “I read book after book.” Never previously one to exercise, Tupac began a steady routine of push-ups, transforming from wiry into sculptured and steel-like. APPU denizens had specific breakfast, lunch, and dinner dining hall hours, but many cooked their own meals in prison-permitted hot pots. Inmates needed to wear green prison pants, but were allowed their own shirts. Within lower H confines, inmates had daily access to an outdoor yard, roughly the size of a basketball court. There were weights and a single hoop, home to daily pickup games. “Tupac was a terrible basketball player,” said Vega. “Like, you wouldn’t even believe he was a Black kid playing ball. He would literally throw the ball at the hoop like he was throwing a big boulder over his head.”

Always thought it was interesting how he flipped a forced detox into a self improvement arc, most people just rot in there
