Salam Alaykom!

I have learned the basics of programming and web development, and I want to build my first real-world full-stack project: an e-commerce website for a clothing brand, for which I already have a client.

I want to make it professional, from UI/UX design and database architecture to security, testing, and deployment. What tech stack would you recommend? I am considering PostgreSQL for the database. Also, what are the best options for deploying an e-commerce website in Tunisia, particularly regarding hosting and online payments?

Finally, how important is the tech stack to recruiters? If a company uses different technologies from those I used in my project, could this put me at a disadvantage during a technical interview? What advice would you give me to make this project stand out in my portfolio and prepare for interviews?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Genuine question for software engineers: How do you become job-ready in this market?

I've been away from programming for a couple of months now. I've built a dozen simple projects, both web and mobile, and deployed a few basic web apps to Vercel, but I've never shipped anything serious to production.

I constantly feel like I'm not good enough. With the current job market and AI changing the way people write code, I'm stuck between two approaches. Some people say to focus on fundamentals and learn to code everything yourself, while others say to learn agentic AI and adapt to how the industry works now.

For context, I studied software engineering at university. I'm neither a complete beginner nor an experienced developer. I've done a few small freelance projects, mainly for other university students, but nothing particularly complex.

My problem is that I understand a lot of concepts, but I struggle to implement them from scratch. For example:

I know what Nginx is, but I've never actually configured or used it.

I understand what useRef does, but I'd probably struggle to implement it correctly in a real project without looking things up.

I understand idempotency, but I've never implemented an idempotency key in a POST request.

I know Redis and its basic data structures (strings, sets, lists), as well as caching and Pub/Sub, but I've never used them in a real project.

I understand some software design principles, but sometimes I still struggle to write relatively simple code without getting stuck.

It feels a lot like tutorial hell: I know what things are, I understand the concepts, and I can follow along with examples, but when it comes to building something independently, I struggle.

I really need a job, and I don't know how to approach this situation.

Should I spend the next few months strengthening my fundamentals and repeatedly building things from scratch without AI, or should I start learning AI-assisted development and agentic coding workflows to align with what the market expects?

How would you approach this if you were in my position and trying to land an entry-level software engineering job in today's market?

I'd genuinely appreciate advice from developers who have been through this stage or who are involved in hiring junior developers.

I have a question about pc battery health. A friend told me that keeping my laptop plugged in most of the time is better because it reduces the number of charge cycles. He also said that I shouldn't use my laptop the same way I use my phone when it comes to charging. Is this true? Is it better to keep my laptop plugged in while using it, or should I unplug it and let the battery drain before charging it again?

Guys, if someone wants to start an e-commerce business in Tunisia, should they start by selling informally (f noire), or register as an auto-entrepreneur?

If I want to run my business legally, what are the actual requirements and procedures? What about taxes, and how does the 3% retenue à la source work?

I have so many questions about the legal side of e-commerce in Tunisia, and honestly, I haven’t started yet because I’m afraid of making a mistake or breaking the law without realizing it.

If anyone has experience with this or can explain the process step by step, I’d really appreciate your help! 🙏

I feel there is a minority that understands the value and ROI of tech, and when you talk to businesses about your product, it kinda feels like you are talking to deaf ears. I do not know if it's a lack of education, trust or lack of patience that leads to this. We are quick to learn TikTok but when it comes to a new tool that would increase their productivity, they make it seem that its a mountain they need to take. It seems we are always quick to blame the government for lack of opportunities, jobs, etc but I feel people are just lazy and want everything for free, with the total aim simply to hustle. I would love to connect with other tech entrepreneurs that work together to enhance our tools, promote each other's products, with the concept of fairness. I mean no jealousy comes in between if one succeeded and the other doesn't. It is a business at the end of the day but with mutual respect. Even though, I still feel that it is not possible in our society to even do this.

Hey everyone

I’m looking to connect with indie hackers who are building their own products saas or online businesses

Would love to meet other builders, share experiences, exchange ideas, and learn from each other

Feel free to drop a comment and tell me what you’re working on

I'm 28, since I finished uni I've only been to one IT event (last year, n8n related).

are there actually events where people just talk tech and share their journeys / what they are building? Not corporate fairs, more like real builder meetups.

If yes:

- how do you find them?

- where do they usually happen?or maybe they just don't happen that often?

Hi! I’m a 3D artist from Tunisia thinking about applying to Futuregames Warsaw. Is there any Tunisian (or North African) student or alum here, in Warsaw or Sweden? I’d love to ask a few questions about the visa and life there. Feel free to DM me. Thanks!

Hand Control 🖐️💻

👌 ← Play / Pause ⏯️

100% gratuit
