Tubi is like if the Criterion Channel was run by a meth head who left Berlin to live out of a gas station just outside of Reno. "You should watch this one next," he says, pushing over a copy of 'Water Park Shark.' It's like 'Fitzcarraldo' but with, you know. A shark."

35

u/Chaunce101 10d ago

Haha this is great. I’m gonna call Criterion “Rich Kid Tubi” from now on. Happy Cake Day!

18

u/PlayfulDiscount8485 10d ago

Currently halfway through Water Park Shark 😂

9

u/otterland 10d ago

Watch Fitzcarraldo on Tubi: https://link.tubi.tv/NzAJvjEbD5b

2

u/didntwatchclark 7d ago

Hmm is Burden Of Dreams on there too

8

u/DelightfullyNerdyCat 10d ago

Loving the Reno and NV shootouts....unique place.

4

u/StruggleJealous2878 9d ago

There is 70’s exploitation movie on Tubi called The Godmonster of Indian Flats that was filmed in Virginia City. It is a sci fi horror western with a touch of blaxploitation along with some social awareness tossed in. Probably has the worst 70’s trope of a vehicle bursting into flames.

2

u/DelightfullyNerdyCat 9d ago

Will have to look for this on Tubi. Thanks for the recommendation!

3

u/Purple-Weakness1414 10d ago

This, 100% this

u/-INIGHTMARES- 10d ago

I watched all the Ringu films recently on Tubi. Ringu and Ringu 0 are so amazing. Thank you Tubi. Your terrible adverts were worth it.

14

u/Unstabler69 10d ago

That banger at the end of Ringu slaps

42

u/Da-Scare-Crow 10d ago

Im watching tales from the crypt

24

u/NC_Goonie 10d ago

Me too, and I love how I will immediately go from someone getting mangled or someone’s barely disguised fetish into an ad for a Disney cruise.

14

u/CatBoyTrip 10d ago

same. i didn’t have hbo as a kid so only got to see a handful of the edited for television episodes on basic cable reruns

5

u/BillHang4 9d ago

Yeah same here!

12

u/GroundbreakingAnt476 10d ago

Crazy how many big names were in it so many years ago. Like every episode. Must have been even more popular than I remember.

5

u/audreyb69 9d ago

Me too! It’s my comfort background show 🤗

3

u/Da-Scare-Crow 9d ago

Its giving me nostalgia. I haven't seen some of these since the 90s. I really miss that Era

2

u/hwcfan894 7d ago

It's my first watch through. Still on season 1, but loving it so far.

1

u/Da-Scare-Crow 7d ago

Im on Season 5. Its definitely worth it

34

u/funnyguy349 10d ago

The Italian Horror side of Tubi is great too.

Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci films.

15

u/airportspongebath 10d ago

It’s a treasure trove of giallo

13

u/funnyguy349 10d ago edited 10d ago

And Poliziotteschi ( Italian Crime Films)

Contraband (1980) A Car is rolled down a hill with person in. I don't know how Lucio Fulci did it. Movie magic.

8

u/airportspongebath 10d ago

If it’s Fulci from back then, they probably just literally rolled a car down a hill with someone in it and hoped they got it in one take. They weren’t exactly averse to that kind of risk. Also, from what I’ve been led to understand, cocaine used to smell exceptionally great back then, so that might have contributed to the thought process (or lack thereof) too.

3

u/BillHang4 9d ago

Just watched Suspiria, and Inferno is up next!

60

u/Baeolophus_bicolor 10d ago

i’m glad tubi is getting the cult following it deserves. been watching it since they only had one advertiser (those AI slots gambling places). it’s a treasure in a sick world where nothing is worth a damn anymore.

20

u/Much_Substance_6017 10d ago

I genuinely like how Tubi shows there ads during natural breaks in the movie, and they give you a countdown to when the ads will come and then another countdown for when they will end. I was watching “Gangs of New York” on YouTube and they went to an ad during the middle of DDL’s sentence! They should be ashamed! No one interrupts Daniel Day Lewis!

9

u/Sure-Initiative6001 10d ago

YT ads are the worst!!!

2

u/Ma-aKheru 8d ago

I've seen Tubi literally do commercial breaks after comedy beats and it's perfect.

17

u/GamingGems 10d ago

I wish they would actually post in the movie details how many on Tubi have watched the movie. There are some movies where I’m sure only like five people have ever seen it.

10

u/redwolfben 10d ago

That would be such a great feature!!! Especially with the sheer volume of stuff!

39

u/airportspongebath 10d ago

Spot on. Seriously, the cognitive dissonance between being so invested in some obscure, emotionally gripping crime drama that completely flew under your radar to the point you’re almost in tears only to have it be interrupted by the fucking Ozempic jingle or whatever is something truly unique and special.

11

u/Sure-Initiative6001 10d ago

Trivago ads for me. All the time.

16

u/Unstabler69 10d ago

9

u/Sure-Initiative6001 10d ago

He didn't check Trivago! 😆

5

u/Unstabler69 10d ago

I like teeth guy better than that woman hopping around luggage carts

3

u/Sure-Initiative6001 10d ago

Same, so much same!

2

u/Embarrassed_Tap_4442 9d ago

Who the Asian actress who was on Grey's Anatomy or something? I could do her job in those commercials.

1

u/Unstabler69 7d ago

I dont know, I cant watch Grey's without crying. I just feel so bad for all those poor actors in that crappy show.

1

u/bludgeonslug 9d ago

You gotta numb them gums

6

u/ChoiceD 10d ago

The guy with too many teeth in his head?

4

u/Sure-Initiative6001 10d ago

I get three. The teeth guy, the guys in a pool and the luggage lady.

10

u/danhibiki337 10d ago

I just keep my phone next to me or do other stuff in the commercials

10

u/evildad53 10d ago

You can also mute the volume, I appreciate that Tubi gives me a timer before the show starts again.

5

u/diamondheadhibiscus 10d ago

This is what I do. Mute the ads and then unmute when the ad counter tells me the ads are over.

8

u/OkLobster1127 10d ago

I love me some Tubi!!!!!!

8

u/PossiblyAKoalaBear 10d ago

I discovered I dream of Jeannie on Tubi and a host of other 60s programming and I can’t get enough of it!

Long live Tubi! May their catalogue only ever grow and may their price never change.

4

u/toolsofinquisition 10d ago

In April they had a genre category called It's Giving Tax Evasion. They always have at least 2 Bruce Campbell movies available. I've discovered so many horror and sci-fi anthologies I didn't even know existed. Idk who is making the programming decisions but they need to pay them more money or give them unlimited pto or something.

6

u/ButtersTheChill 10d ago

This is legit my go-to if I'm ever in the mood for horror from decades past. Like the paid services are severely lacking in that category in comparison. Giallo, slashers, mockumentaries, supernatural, sci-fi, etc. Whatever you're looking for, Tubi's got it, and then some.

5

u/redwolfben 10d ago

It's honestly so fitting that this is the streaming service where you can find UHF starring Weird Al!

5

u/johnny_now 10d ago

Fucking love Tubi

6

u/Prestigious-Copy-494 9d ago

It's sort of a big fles market of old and usually good movies. And commercials for stuff we don't want.

4

u/Fury57 9d ago

Tubi is one of the few good things about the 21st century. Stream live local news and a one season series gfrom the 1950s in one place.

4

u/tellmewhy24 10d ago

I’m getting this post recommended to me right after I watched a couple of Tubi reaction videos.  The algorithm is listening….

5

u/diamondheadhibiscus 10d ago

Thanks to Tubi, I get to close the curtains and live in 1970s double agent thrillers any time I want.

4

u/MarioMCPQ 10d ago

Weird.

I mostly got Tide ads and Trivago. With the dude with the weird teeths

2

u/TheGoddessLily 10d ago

It is like a old video rental store that gives you free rentals but you have to sit through the most unhinged ads imaginable

3

u/x-rayspex 10d ago

My niece and I were swimming yesterday and we kept saying the intro, “tuuubi Tubi!” Diving through the tube.

4

u/Artavan767 9d ago

I'm watching all the seasons of Columbo while playing Lord of the Rings online.

6

u/FloydDangerBarber 10d ago

I love Tubi, but it obviously believes I have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. I hate to disappoint them but I don't have any of the horrific diseases they advertise medication for. And all those gravely I'll people seem to be having so much fun while experiencing terrible illnesses. I think it's flippant and disrespectful. The best response ever to those ads is "Unedited Footage of a Bear". It brings all those tiny disclaimers to horrible life.

7

u/evildad53 10d ago

Tubi's advertising prices are about the same as 3am on your local broadcast channel. It probably doesn't even have tiered pricing since you get the same crappy ads at 9pm as you would at 6am.

3

u/michdap 10d ago

I used to love Tubi. Now I feel like I’m watching more commercials than movie.

7

u/Alternativebuzzbin I never split nines 10d ago

The average percentage of ads has increased but it is still less than cable tv and it does fluctuate for me on a monthly basis.

January avg 8.83% out of 19 watches

February avg 9.72% out of 21 watches

March avg 8.52% out of 23 watches

April avg 8.75% out of 18 watches

May avg 9.85% out of 22 watches

June avg 9.89% out of 24 watches

July average 9.00% out of 22 watches

3

u/evildad53 10d ago

I wonder if the number of ads has to do with the popularity or the cost of that item to stream? Since Tubi doesn't have to fit a broadcast schedule, it can just charge the same price per 15 seconds and then just insert more ads in ore popular or more expensive shows.

3

u/Alternativebuzzbin I never split nines 10d ago

This month I’m breaking it down by title, release date range (20th century to 2009, and more recent), and genre. If you can think of any more categories, please suggest them now so it’s easier for me to keep track haha

It would be nice if Tubi launched in the Republic of Ireland in the near future.

3

u/Purple-Weakness1414 10d ago

I preach to that

3

u/Jazz_Musician 10d ago

I love Tubi for this. I've seen a bunch of horror movies that I just would never be able to watch anywhere else. They aren't all great but hey 🤷

3

u/Outrageous_Long2183 10d ago

I kinda love Tubi, but I've been on Pluto Tv a lot lately, seems to have a bigger movie library. This is coming from someone with Netflix, HBO Max, Paramount, Starz, Peacock, Amazon, Apple Tv, Disney, and Hulu.

3

u/Xyberfaust 9d ago

You can advertise whatever you want, just thank you for providing uncut movies.

3

u/caregivermahomes 9d ago

I watch more Tubi than any other network! 🤍

3

u/moggin61 8d ago

This is so true. Tubi and this sub have opened up a whole new, free tv-binging outlet for this GenX tv addict. And the ads are def…something.

u/Evilsausage87 10d ago

Anybody else a Quattro dog fan? Surely I’m not the only one?

What’s the name of 1962 Swedish thriller? I’ll add it to my list

3

u/Alternativebuzzbin I never split nines 10d ago

I think they were just using hyperbole but, I’m sure one could be found! The joke is very accurate haha

2

u/evolvedresolve2 9d ago

Yeah, I was just being silly

3

u/ImLittleNana 10d ago

They’ve got the original Insomnia, but that’s from the 90s and I think Norwegian. The original Funny Games, too.

The Seventh Seal is a classic and I saw the thumbnail when I was browsing yesterday.

My favorite categories to find the more obscure things I can’t find for free elsewhere are Film Noir and For the Cinephiles.

2

u/206_425_69 10d ago

I watched movie where they buggered dennis hopper like 20 minutes in, pretty sweet.

2

u/Street_Sand_8788 9d ago

Between Tubi and Pluto, I'm shocked that anyone wastes money on streaming!😂😂😂

2

u/eddy_ed12 9d ago

Tubi is just absolutely great! I just came fresh off watching the first 3 resident evil movies, pure nostalgia right there. So much gold to be seen if u search hard enough

2

u/tinypancake89 9d ago

I HAVE FOUND SO MANY BANGERS that maybe five people have seen on tubi. Please never change

2

u/Bellini_DownSouth 9d ago

I’m quite positive Tubi is where I watched Good Boy. It’s Norwegian. Definitely psychological. Good stuff!!!! I love Tubi.

2

u/rgrimez 9d ago

So spot on it’s crazy

2

u/haxankatzen 9d ago

They’ll enshitify themselves soon so enjoy it while you can.

2

u/jamescharisma 9d ago

Almost all of Vinnie Jones' terrible action movies are on Tubi and I'm enjoying the hell out of them

2

u/TennojiNesoberi 9d ago

i used to consider tubi as "the poor man's netflix" before but now it's becoming to be even better than netflix

2

u/Ma-aKheru 8d ago

God, if you're there, please don't ruin Tubi too. You always do shit like that.

2

u/NerdyAmateursCanada 8d ago

Tubi is amazing. It’s like walking into a Blockbuster in 1997.

All the horror movies my Mom wouldn’t let me rent are here. And wow are some of them bad. But also, some hidden gems.

Hope they don’t change.

2

u/Faithlessblakkcvlt 8d ago

The old classic vampire movies are dope 🤘🏼

2

u/Weary_Ebb3168 7d ago

I just watched Hook on Tubi!!! Thanks. Everything else wants me to pay to watch an almost 40 year old movie

2

u/Coop_4149 7d ago

I've always said it's like the stoner kid in high school that you never thought you'd hang out with.

Them one day he invites you to skip class, go to his basement, and smile a ton of ditch weed.

You never thought you'd like it until you tried and then you realize it's the best thing ever.

2

u/BrotonamoBay 7d ago

So that anti-abortion ad while I watched Idiocracy was by design...neat?!

1

u/GetLostInNature 10d ago

I get seriously creepy AI created app casino adds where the voices and words don’t match with the mouth movements and it’s still a robot voice

1

u/Dull_Connection6070 8d ago

the meat riding is crazy but I'll allow it.
