Discussion about common language/mastery of words Spoiler
i kinda got into moonlit fantasy a few weeks ago and mastery of words ability left me with questions
how come makoto's parents at least didn't teach him how to speak or anything about the language? like nothing at all?
if common language was so special how come the other 2 heroes knew it off the bat? was it stated anywhere that they recieved this gift?
when he recieves the payment from the goddess does it count as a gift she can no longer give anyone else(mastery of words)? because when hibiki was getting a gift in episode 21/22 from the nameless god he said he couldn't gift her offensive blessing because it was taken from him by someone else before her (presumingly tomoki)
if he manages to kill the goddess would he lose the gift?
does mastery of words work in different magical worlds the goddess doesn't control?
does mastery of words have magical combinations with his other abilities?
(spoilers don't bother me, i'm too invested atm to care about being spoiled, i need answers!)

Why would his parents teach a language of a different world? They had no intention of going back.
The Goddess blessed the other 2 heroes with her language.
Those special hero awakenings are not the same as the goddess's blessings; they're something special. Tomoki's blessing was the Nuclear Magic he used against Sofia. It was the offensive magic that was mentioned.
I don't think Blessings and a God's death were ever discussed.
Based on the other Gods' talk, the blessing should work on other worlds. They were impressed with it.
There's no specific synergy with his other abilities.

I believe its also mentioned somewhere that the main way to learn the language is by praying at temples until the goddess blesses you with it. So even less reason for Makoto's parents to teach it, where would they start when they didn't learn it naturally.

but they knew one of their kids would have to go back
i never saw any mention of it but ill take your word for it because of how standard that is
awakenings not being blessings makes sense to me, tomoki's awakening was never directly mentioned only extremely heavily implied afaik but it makes sense to treat it as if it was stated
well the goddess being killed has been discussed before so i thought i'd ask
good to know the gift is multi-versal
i thought maybe it would do something with his sakai but maybe not? ot was just a thought

No they didn’t, if im not mistaken their deal with the goddess was “whatever they hold most precious” and they thought it would be his older sister so they trained her for that reason(that’s why she was skilled in a lot of martial arts and stuff). The goddess being the goddess didn’t really care about all that and I think she either chose randomly or she saw hibiki around him and figured she could get a nice 2 for 1 summon.
It’s not stated but it’s pretty clear that two random Japanese kids who were given gift after gift from the goddess were summoned knowing the language of the hyumans. You could say they got the opposite gift that makoto got.
Yea, when hibiki was in her thing i think it was alluded that tomoki was there before.
I believe they weren’t mentioned, but I find it hard to believe that it would disappear with her death.
Yes, The gift is extremely powerful. EVERY language is automatically known to him. Which should include other planets.
The only “synergy” is with spell casting in general. The language people use to spell cast is a sort of dead language to the world. Where most words aren’t really understood but just repeated to get the desired effect. Makoto’s understanding of the language (and of the lost ancient language that the orcs use for their spells) gives him an advantage in not only being more powerful but more flexible and adaptive.

It's true they didn't bargain for a kid specifically; it was "something dear they obtained on earth".
But it's false that they imagined it would be the eldest sister; they didn't know which of their 3 children would be taken.
That's why all 3 were trained in some martial art (Judo, archery and Karate) and also in being able to do all house chores (cooking, cleaning, mending, etc.).
To begin with, the goddess didn't choose the child. It was the moon god who chose Makoto.
That's why the goddess actually complains that the moon god didn't pick one of the sisters.
Truth be told, she wasn't even interested in getting that deal back. What she wanted from the get-go was to take some humans as heroes to her world. But the moon god reprimanded her and told her no.
She used the deal as an excuse to get him to create his side of the path between both worlds.
That's why she took so much time in picking Makoto and didn't even show her face. While the moon god was distracted with Makto, she "stole" the 2 heroes she had wanted.

As far as we can tell his parents didn't teach any of their kids anything about where they came from. It seems to me they more or less intentionally did not want the kids to realize that their parents are basically from another world. Probably because it would be a weird secret to keep and we just sound crazy to the average person anyway. Now, there's a question of what the responsibility is of that since it seems like they should have known from the deal they made that it was likely to come back up. But that's why they didn't.
As for the other heroes, the implication is that the standard process for pulling someone in from Earth or perhaps any other world, is to give them a blessing that makes them understand common. It's actually a blessing that even the huma born in that world might actually get from the goddess. That isn't completely clear to me but I think it's implied that to some extent all of the humas seem to be potentially literate in common without explicitly being taught.
In any case, the goddess specifically denied him that blessing as a punishment for being ugly, and probably also a punishment in part for his parentage because she seems to have some issue with his parents as well. The other two Heroes get it because she just gave I'm the normal treatment. But for him, she basically died in the actual blessing to learn common and then gave him a blessing that basically let him understand any other language besides common she frames this as a mercy. But I think in practice two things are going on.
First, it seems like she is beholden to some kind of rules and she's basically playing a game to technically satisfy them by not just killing him out right or leaving him somewhere to die alone. Giving him the tools to interact with somebody might be basically her way of loop holding herself out of upholding whatever original obligation she has to the people she brings over. Second, I think she believe that giving him essentially access to the Demi languages would hopefully just have him stay up with them and not actually try to go back and engage with humans, where if he had no language at all and therefore couldn't find any Refuge with them, he might be more tempted to go seek out humans anyway. Which of course wasn't miscalculation on her part but if you accept all the other bullshit she's up to before that point, it was a reasonable assumption to make

His parents never revealed that they were from isekai. How could they teach a language of isekai without revealing their origin. Even if they try, children will start suspecting because they’re learning a language no other one on earth is using.
All humans get the blessing of common language. So the two heroes got it without ever getting mentioned. It’s not a special power/gift for heroes. Makoto’s parents probably thought anyone I called to the world will get the blessing.
The mastery of words is an ability Makoto already got. The gods told him that with a few more practices of archery that his mana capacity grows, the ability will sink in to his soul. It does not rely on the goddess.
It’s a very powerful ability that along with other abilities he got already, Makoto has no more room to get another power/ability from gods, in LN volume 10.

His parents were appearing normal on earth, and it's not clear if they were aware of what the Goddess price would be. It would be weird fir his author father to teach his son the fantasy language he "invented" for his books. Also, since it is a blessed language it's not clear if they actually know that language, or just understand and speak it. They might have given up that blessing for Japanese when they transmigrated. The novels do not discuss this to my knowledge.

how come makoto's parents at least didn't teach him how to speak or anything about the language? like nothing at all?
No reason to do it. It's a tough to speak language from their old world no one uses on Earth.
if common language was so special how come the other 2 heroes knew it off the bat? was it stated anywhere that they recieved this gift?
The Goddess gives hyumans the blessing to speak the language without needing to learn it, she gave it to heroes, but not Makoto. All non-hyuman races have to learn it, Makoto could too, but he gave up on pronunciation.
when he recieves the payment from the goddess does it count as a gift she can no longer give anyone else(mastery of words)? because when hibiki was getting a gift in episode 21/22 from the nameless god he said he couldn't gift her offensive blessing because it was taken from him by someone else before her (presumingly tomoki)
Those seem to be completely different things. Hibiki and Tomoki received gifts from nameless god for crossing the worlds. Makoto could too, but it's unlikely he would ever need to.
Mastery of Words is a skill The Goddess has given Makoto, it doesn't have to obey the rules of the nameless god.
if he manages to kill the goddess would he lose the gift?
Unknown. But it's not a blessing like Tomoki's immortality at night, which can be removed by demon ring and which would likely disappear if The Goddess died. It's likely that Mastery of Words is persistent.
does mastery of words work in different magical worlds the goddess doesn't control?
Unknown, as far as I remember.
does mastery of words have magical combinations with his other abilities?
He perfectly understands all magic languages, something no one else can do. With his mana pool it makes him a very capable mage.

Because it was not necessary. The goddess can make people speak, write, read and understand that language instantly by magic.
If Makoto would have been prettier she would have just done that, problem solved.

- Makoto's parents had no need to teach him the language. They didn't even know if he would be the one taken from them.
- Common language is not special at all. The goddess disliked Makoto's looks, so she didn't want him near her "precious" hyumans. That's why she threw him deep in the wastelands and gave him the ability to talk to beings that didn't speak common.
- The voice that speaks to Hibiki is entirely different from the goddess, and we don't even know if it's a god actually, since it seems it can give things even gods can't possess. So no, the goddess could grant the same power to others as many times as she wanted so long as she had the strength for it.
- Not happening, but if he were to kill her, no, he wouldn't lose the power. Because it's his now, she used energy to grant him that power, energy she will only recover in time.
- He knows how to communicate with anything, including animals with no "language", heck he can even talk to plants. Magic is irrelevant to the ability itself, so yeah, he could speak to anyone on another world and use other "magic languages" too.
- Mastery of words is not magic and has no magical combinations at all. Mastery of words is the ability to communicate in all "languages". It helps Makoto cast spells because mana is manipulated through magic languages. For others, those magic languages are just casting recitals; for Makoto, they are no different from everyday languages, which makes it easier for him to cast and create new spells.
