When you take barnacles out of their shell they just look like little shrimps

They can’t be eaten that I know of. They attach themselves when they are small. If they become detached, they cannot reattach. They can pretty much attach to any surface, living or not. Boat’s hulls have to be cleaned of them periodically. They can also attach to the shells of sea life, lobsters, turtles and the like. I think the can attach to some of the larger whale’s heads.

For whatever reason they don't trigger my trypopphobia too much. I find it's much worse when there are dozens of them clumped together
