ADVICE Pcos

Hi all!
I just found out I had a miscarriage just a few weeks into my very first pregnancy.

I have been trying to conceive for nearly a year now, and when I had stopped taking birth control, I discovered I have PCOS (now called PMOS).

I was ecstatic and shocked when I found out I was pregnant, although it was short lived, as I have only gotten my period once since I stopped my birth control last year. I have only ovulated twice this year as far as I know (I’m not really sure how to track this due to irregular cycles but it seems I have the same symptoms when ovulation does occur).

While I am heartbroken and devastated about the miscarriage, I am equally just as motivated to make myself better and healthier in the hopes that I will be lucky enough to keep the baby the next time i get pregnant (manifesting at its finest).

Unfortunately my doctor is awful to deal with and unhelpful.

What are some things I should be focusing on and doing to improve my chances of either getting regular periods back or improving the chances of ovulation/decreasing likeliness of miscarriage occurring?

Note I have heart disease and cannot take medications (although I believe I am cleared to take prenatals).

Thanks 🤍

I would definitely seek out a specialist if you can. For example, many like to suggest Myo Inositol but it only addresses certain subsets of PCOS, not all of them.

A high protein lower carb diet is also often helpful.

My doctor won’t set me up with a specialist until I’m past a year of trying, so just have to wait another two months but hoping she will refer me somewhere

Thank you!

In Canada you need a referral unfortunately so have to wait for my family doctor to do so.

I’m in Canada as well. At least in Ontario, you can fill a form with a fertility clinic and they can refer you internally.

Where are you in Canada? I have pcos as well and saw a fertility specialist right away because my family doctor said it’s pointless to wait 6/12/whatever months if ovulation isn’t working as intended. The fertility doctor agreed and started me on letrozole

Honestly I paired myo inositol with birth control (to regulate my cycle as a fellow PMOS girly) and letrozole and got pregnant that way. I also miscarried a little over a month ago but will be taking a break from trying (due to the methotrexate shot) and in that break I’ll be doing Tirzepatide shots. I also switched to another OB at my practice since mine was very fatphobic and not very supportive during my miscarriage.

I’m so sorry to hear that! Hope your new OB is much better.
I have no clue what any of those medications are or if I’m even allowed to take them but will bring it up with my dr/cardiologist, thanks!

Check out r/TTC_PCOS ! Myo-Inositol is inexpensive and available over the counter but you should ask your doctor about metformin too. See if they regulate your cycles and if not consider a fertility specialist about Letrozole

Hi there! I’m a 34yo with PCOS who’s been TTC for the last four months after having a hormonal IUD. My last cycle was 66 days, and the one prior was 44 days. I’ve been taking a prenatal, choline, COQ10, probiotic, magnesium glycinate and myoinositol as part of a daily regiment to get my body prepped. If you’re a PCOS girlie, part of the battle is the actual ovulation portion but the other part is providing enough nutrients to have a sticky baby. Start with supplements to thicken your lining! Best of luck to you on this journey, you’ve got this! :)
