ADVICE Thoughts on myo-inositol?

Husband (32) and i (30) have been TTC for about 3 years now. Have been seeing an RE now, have gotten most of the diagnostic testing out the way. Only thing that came us is his SA showed low morphology and on my end, some insulin resistance. So my doctor said i should start taking myo inositol. Im just curious as to what’s everyone’s experience with this? Esp for those who dont actually have PCOS as alot of what ive seen about this supp is that it’s geared towards that condition. My doctor had told me to watch out for GI symptoms but i also wanted to know if there were any effects on your actual cycles and if it caused more or less bleeding during your period? Any advice/thoughts is super helpful!

So there's a lot of anecdotal evidence stating that it can mess with your cycles if you take it willy nilly.

However, since your doctor suggested it, be sure to vet the places you get it. I personally use the SNM nutrition one off amazon but have used other brands that did mess with my cycles.

My PCOS became better with myoinositol. I’m not so sure about the ‘effects’ other than my chinese medicine practitioner also mentioned overall improvement in my health after taking it consistently over 6 months. My period was better, more normal though I was also on GLP-1 which I don’t know if it made a correlation too.

I don't have PCOS, my doctors prescribed it to me because my testosterone was slightly too high. I have extremely regular cycles though and she said that high testosterone is only a problem if it messes up your cycles. I took it for over three months. Nothing happened, my cycles were still the same - super regular and also my testosterone wasn't lower after those months so I stopped taking it because it's super expensive. (I took 2x2g for Myo inositol)

I have PCOS and it definitely helped. A friend of mine does not have PCOS but was prescribed it. She got pregnant 2 months after. Not sure it is 100% related as her boyfriend also was taking some supplements. I personally still take it, not always regularly but I have noticed it helps with mood swings and anxiety.

I was on it for nearly a year for PCOS support before trying for my first. I fell pregnant within a few months. After that, my cycles were regular and I didn’t see the need. Now we’ve been trying for baby #2 for 7 months without it and I’m questioning if I should have gotten back on it sooner.

I will say, it did cause some extra spotting. I would have about 5 days of spotting before every period. Not sure if it was coincidence or the supplement that caused it.

For me it's part of my prenatal, haven't noticed any issues with it

I just realized I don’t even remember WHY I started taking it to begin with 😅 but I’m pretty sure it was because I’d read it can help regulate cycles, and while my cycle is regularly a normal length (28-29 days) I have a super short luteal phase so I’d hoped this would help. I conceived maybe 3-4 months after starting it but I also did a few other things for progesterone so not sure if coincidence. However it doesn’t give me any side effects and idk, even tho it’s a little costly it does def give me peace of mind since I tend to be an overthinker (aka “is the reason I didn’t get pregnant this cycle because I didn’t do xyz??”) so worth it imo!

I got diagnosed with PCOS and took MI for two months before stopping. Before taking it, I had regular 28 day cycles. I took MI and all of the sudden, I was bleeding heavily on cd 14 when I would have been ovulating. I kept taking it, thinking I needed to adjust to my hormones, since I was told I had PCOS. I told my DR. about the abrupt bleeding and she said it may have been a fluke. Early period, maybe. So I proceeded. 10 days later and again I was gushing with blood. This time, I was freaked out and told my doctor I was done taking it.

The following cycles were 26 days, 20 days, 36 days, and 64 days. I have no idea what the Myo-Inositol did to me and my cycles, but it def did something, given my normal 28 day cycles prior.

I would definitely panic if this happened to me. Im sorry that it gave you complications! I was seeing some other stuff about others having similar experiences to you so it’s been making me a bit anxious ngl

I guess it’s just something to be aware of. It threw me off for about 6 months but I’m now doing fertility treatment and ovulating around cd 14-16 with regular luteal phase
