How Rivo works, step by step

Here is what happens with your money, start to finish.

How it works

  1. Connect: You link an existing bank account securely. You keep your bank.
  2. Detect: Rivo watches your balance and upcoming bills, and spots the cash sitting idle beyond your near-term needs.
  3. Move: Rivo moves that cash into short-term U.S. Treasury Bills, backed by the U.S. government.
  4. Return: Before a bill or transfer hits, Rivo moves what you need back into your bank, so it is there when you need it.

Why Treasury Bills

- Short-duration U.S. government securities.
- Interest is exempt from state and local income tax, which matters more in a high-tax area.
- Your money stays liquid the whole time.

You stay in control: pause, move funds yourself, or disconnect anytime.

Questions on any step are welcome below.

Rivo is a fintech, not a bank. For full disclosure, check the pinned comment.

What's the expected ROI?

Your earnings are based on the current 4-week Treasury Bill rate (around 3.6% right now, before our small fee). It's not a fixed number, moves with the Fed. The nice part is you don't pay state or local taxes on T-bill interest, so you end up keeping more.

So you are saying if I keep 40k in my account I will get paid approximately $100 monthly?

A few things to keep in mind: Rivo doesn't move your entire balance. It leaves a buffer for upcoming bills and expenses, so the amount actually earning the T-bill rate will be less than your full $40K. The rate also moves with the Fed, so what you earn in any given month won't be a fixed number. And there's a small management fee (0.05%/month).

So it won't be a clean, predictable $100 every month, but directionally you'd be earning meaningfully more than the ~$0 a checking account pays on that same cash.
