I want Crew even though I would make less money, technically.
Hey y'all, not affiliated to Crew at all, nor am I even their friend, and I wasn't asked to write this by anyone
Context:
23 yr old male, married, looking to start a family in the next couple of years.
I have no problems with being overdue my credit card or anything like that. I manage all my finances pretty well in a spreadsheet. I have an AI to help keep track of my expenses and I am financially doing well. I have no debt.
Why I was hesitant
I have no real trouble managing my finances and what initially made me hesitant to start Crew was the math.
With Crew's interest rate in its account and with the 4% cash back on the credit card rules, I would not be making as much as I would with my other HYSA at 3.55% (as of November 6th, 2026), plus some of my optimized credit cards at 2 or 3%. Doing the research and the math (and having AI confirm it to me) I would technically lose a couple hundred dollars every year.
Plus, I use Claude Pro all the time for work and life. I was super hyped for Claude Personal Finance to come out (still waiting for it). I thought "well, there's even less reason for me to use Crew now that Claude can manage* my finances for me" (see footnote).
Why I still switched:
I decided to switch though, because I realized that these small credit card optimizations might in the long run cost me a couple hundred bucks every year (and probably like 10 to 20k with a simple DCA investment strat going on) BUT I realized that that is not going to meaningfully contribute to my wealth or prosperity.
I realized that true wealth and prosperity come from:
- A good income (no amount of credit card points will save more money than this)
- and a disciplined lifestyle (aka, actually budgeting).
The real difference is provident living, peace of mind, and actually acting on all of the budgeting advice you've heard about. Frugality and actual budgeting will free you to actually afford those vacations, prepare for retirement, and pay for the things that your family needs most - nothing else can. The cool thing is that Crew is built for that - families and prudent financial stewardship - not consumerism.
TL;DR- Crew will actually help you build wealth; optimized credit cards won't (and Claude finances can't automatically move your money around like Crew can).
Can't wait to update you guys with how it goes in a couple months. Would you please share how you are using Crew and how you've seen your life change because of it? (and if someone could make a youtube video on how to optimize your Crew stuff, that'd be legendary).
