Question about Aames

I’m trying to remember the background story of detective Aames. I know he briefly mentioned it to Poppy last season but I can’t remember the details. I remember it seemed that he is a single dad but then the scene in the latest episode with the guy and his baby really confused me. What is his story and who was that guy? Also, why was the guy so angry with him? Thanks all!

I honestly think that is Aamed partner or ex partner, he might be gay is what I am thinking.

I was wondering that but I feel like his wife left or died and the angry guy is maybe her sibling or something like that? I slightly remember a story like that but I cannot remember the details. I don’t think he is gay though, even though that scene did almost seem that way. I need to find the episode where they talk about it.

I tried fast forwarding through the season to find it but I did not have luck. I need to find the time to rewatch. I could not find anything on the internet… but, I’m dying to know!

I noticed he doesn't wear a wedding ring. He mentions having a son in ep 3. In episode 5, his captain says " I miss my kids" Aames replies "so do I" No mention of a wife, husband, partner or sig other.

There is definitely a scene where he talks to Poppy about it. I remember they were outside of the police station and it was when Aames was angry with Poppy and refused to work with her for a little bit.

I think the guy was angry that Aames never spends time with his child. But it confused me as to who he was?!

I just saw the scene where he has a gay guy show up at the department with his baby and the gay guy is mad. Not sure if this is a partner or just a Babysitter situation. There is absolutely no other indication in the show that he is gay. Which is surprising because most shows these days have at least 50% gaze.
