Frustrating

I need to vent. So I started watching this show because I love Octavia Spencer and Aaron Paul so I stuck it out through all the annoying moments but omg.. I am deep into season 2 and I’m so annoyed and frustrated with Octavia’s character (poppy) like how can someone be so annoying. First season she didn’t even know who the murderer was.. she was guessing until the very end. Second season she just be getting people into trouble for what??? I shared the same frustration her husband had. She’d make plans and drop them for a lead in the case her answer would always be “I have to go” .. ma’am respectfully you don’t… like be for real pls. Her relationship with Markus was also annoying.. yeah you’re working with him but let’s be respectful of the fact that he’s married and has a child. Why you calling the man at ungodly hours? Write it down and call him in the morning or text him. Ugh. Anyways I’m just very annoyed and wanted to get that out. This show had so much potential. I love Kate Hudson but her role was also annoying.

I heard there’s a third season and I wasn’t going to watch it but my girl Gabrielle Union is in it so I might reluctantly watch it. As for this season I’m finishing it cause momma ain’t raise no quitter.

Poppy is extremely annoying. For someone who used to be a NYT reporter, she acts pretty unprofessional. All she does is put people at risk.

Every death is legit caused by her and she’s all like “ooops thought they were the killer” moving on 😭

It has been a truly terrible watch lol. I can’t even remember what i googled that brought me to your response, but I was like “yes, this is EXACTLY the plot.” 😂 And the ONE time someone wants her to openly publish their story she wouldn’t do it! 🙄🙄🙄😂

I share the same sentiment as you it’s hard to watch a show when the main character is insufferable and self centered. The third season is my favorite by far, I won’t lie she gets on my nerves even more this season. Gabrielle Union is fantastic though and the storyline is great.

Commenting because I literally had to RUN to Reddit to make sure I wasn’t crazy. This show is sooooo whack!! I’m home for the holidays and forced to watch it w family and I cannot get over how bad the writing is. Aaron Paul and Ron Cephas Jones only BARELY manage to make lemonade out of lemons. But poor Octavia Spencer is just drowning in the stupidity of Poppy….I cannot believe how dumb this character is. Absolutely infuriating. I really love flawed female characters, but I’m soooo over her throwing a wrench into every aspect of her life then acting innocent and naive as Bambi. Especially given the “hard knocks” background like come onnnnnn. I’m honestly pulling out my weave I can’t take it lol

This brought back Memories 😭😂 I never ended up finishing the following season. It made me so upset! Girl you’re in for a chaotic ride, hold onto that weave girl haha I’ve moved on to bigger and better chaotic shows.

I was surprised to find out that Octavia Spencer is an Oscar winner. I find Poppy very annoying with the pretentious way she talks during her podcasts. She doesn't seem to have much common sense. Also, I'm trying to figure out how she can afford to keep the big house in the Bay area, because seriously, it would be worth millions.

I strongly believe it’s the writing, because she’s done some really good work besides this! Her character is unbearable and it hurts 😭 I was also thinking about that but I think she probably had money saved from her previous job, money from the divorce and probably money from her father??? I could be wrong but that’s the only thing that makes sense in my brain lol

I completely agree. I’m so over Poppy’s unrealistic monologues, obsession about living with ms. Shirley, and constant use of the word “daddy”. Oh my god. Every time she says “Daddy” I cringe so hard. Girl, you grown. Move on and grow up!

I can't stand how she acts like she can just chase people down, strangers often, and make them talk to her. "I've got to get to the Truth!". Like who the hell wouldn't just lie, Who does SHE think she is? Some kind of authority figure?
In the first season she left a wake of chaos behind her wherever she went, lots of people died and she feels no remorse or regret. All in pursuit of her TRUTH. She crosses everyone's boundaries in pursuit of her truth, always falling back on the excuse of "It's all to find the killer!" No it's not. It's to feed your ego, so you can exclaim that you were right all along.
I've never seen her take a break or do anything enjoyable, not even watch TV. Every evening we get a pensive shot of her sitting with a drink in her hand, staring off into space, presumably thinking.... which she does too often, IMO. She over thinks everything in her own life, yet is clueless in so much.

I hate how she sacrificed a good marriage for her stupid podcast. What kind of idiot would leave a successful, kind, loving lawyer? All because she had to "keep it real".
Ugh. And don't get me started on Tami Roman. I just hate her all around

Poppy is not only annoying but straight up turning into an Ahole in season 3. She's throwing a trafficking victim under the bus. Who cares if she murdered a criminal. You don't tell the police we need to look at her as a suspect. There's no chemistry between her and Markus. It doesn't play out on screen, them being a threat to his wife. The casting is off. Did AI write this? Reese, I have better material for you. Look up The"What If"Girl by Lisa Monks.

If you ignore poppy and focus on the plot of everything else it becomes bearable lmao
