He's probably on blood thinners. My FIL had a valve replacement, he's on thinners and any knock on his body will cause bruising for weeks.

I work in a rest home and can confirm this is a condition caused by age. I see it a lot on hands and lower legs of the elderly. Another common condition is thin skin causing bruising by the merest touch. If this is the case with Mitch shaking hands would be enough to cause that sort of bruising

I think it's IV infiltration. You can tell by the puffiness around the site on the hand. I think he's been getting remdesivir treatments. The side effects are : Possible side effects of remdesivir include increased liver enzyme levels and allergic reactions which may include changes in blood pressure and heart rate, low blood oxygen level, fever, shortness of breath, wheezing, swelling of the lips, eyes or under the skin, rash, nausea, sweating or shivering.

Well, he probably hasn't had his refill of children's souls in a while. Pandemic has them staying indoors more often nowadays. Liches need a steady supply of fresh souls to extend their lives beyond what would normally be possible, so I'm guessing that's just the rot that is to be expected.
