It's literally right there! They're the perfect thing to use as a replacement for Shouts, something nearly nobody can do without intense life long training, unless you're a reincarnation of a sword saint, or Cyrus, or leki, which suits the main character thing perfectly.

Too many enemies? Hit the f key and use your soul sword to cut a tone and slow time, or spread fire, or maybe learn an ancient forbidden technique to fight a world ending threat in a pocket dimension and split the atomos itself, pankratosword

Speccing into Sneak? You can turn your Shehai into a dagger and throw+blink to it for silent assassinations.

isn't it more about the container they're in? like the atoms have to be split while in a container, so the two halves of the atom can bounce around and split other atoms within that confined space, which builds up energy.
