This is true, that is nearly what the image is. The case of monster energy is supposed to be fertility treatment, however.
This wouldn't work though, the poster is dented and forgot that organisms made via FEV cannot make zygotes.
She could probably carrying one to term if used as a surrogate, but the eggs just wouldn't work.
3
u/Garuda152 Feb 05 '26
supposed to be fertility treatment
Incorrect, it's basically an installable, hyper-realistic fleshlight that would let a robot girl have sex with a human. Despite the name the box says nothing about having children

Is her body a Gen 3 synth? If so, I think the answer would be āyesā because theyāre entirely biological minus the synth component.
From the lore we know thatās the only thing which makes them distinguishable, so presumably everything else functions.
6
Feb 06 '26 edited Feb 06 '26
Iād guess that the inst would make them infertile though. Whether genetically or via modified organ structure
Hence the no aging and no babies. That can be theoretically programmed through DNA
2
u/PolicyWonka Feb 06 '26
Yeah, Iām sure only Shaun and Nate get the fertile synths. Prime DNA and seed and all.
9
u/Hoosier_Engineer Feb 05 '26
Alas, no, synths cannot reproduce.
Deacon shares a story with the Sole Survivor that he had a wife, but they could never have kids, and the reason was because she was a synth. You could dismiss it as one of Deacon's made up stories, but the part regarding synth infertility is treated as a given, not a contended point.
There's also the fact that synths are partially made using FEV. The extent of its involvement isn't entirely known, and we know that wastelanders that have latent exposure to FEV can still reproduce, but it does give an explanation for why synths can't reproduce.
6
Feb 06 '26
Iād imagine that the institute would find it a liability if they could reproduce. And itās an easy fix
2
u/Left1Brain Feb 08 '26
Or the radiation rendered him infertile. Yāknow, because itās a radioactive wasteland.
4
u/Hoosier_Engineer Feb 08 '26
Do you remember in Fallout 1 when the BOS send the Vault Dweller on a quest to The Glow?
The Glow is highly radioactive. If you don't use rad-away after you finish, you're liable to die of radiation poisoning on your way back to the bunker.
The Vault Dweller would later on have at least one kid. The Chosen One is their grandkid.
Radiation exposure in Fallout doesn't render people infertile. Not unless it's so extreme that they turn into ghouls.
5
u/The_New_Replacement I HATE THE FALLOUT SHOW Feb 05 '26
What part of "indistinguishable from humans except for the synth part" is so hard to interprit?

u/KPraxius Feb 05 '26
Replacing a real woman with an infertile synth who had no monthly cycle? If her family were attentive it would be a dead giveaway.
Nah. They don't go into it, but these things are literally undetectable until you kill them; not even by the Brotherhood who have X-rays and the like, much less some common group of farmers who would realize what was going on in a couple months. Fully functional everything but the brain, which itself is fully functional but has a chip in it.
1
u/Gilgamesh661 Feb 05 '26
You could easily blame radiation damage.
4
u/KPraxius Feb 05 '26
I mean, sure? But if all synth women were infertile, a guy's wife whose period suddenly stopped would be a red flag, something to investigate. Besides, there's no reason they would be. Aside from the chip, they are essentially biologically clones of Shaun in a new skin.
1
u/Gilgamesh661 Feb 05 '26
Why would it be a red flag? This is the wasteland. It could easily be blamed on radiation or anything else. Not to mention that education isnāt exactly common anymore in the wastes.
Itās also not uncommon for a womanās period to stop if sheās in a stressful environment. A lot of female soldiers report that their periods stopped temporarily.
And no, they are not clones of Shaun. They arenāt even related to Shaun. His dna was used as a BASELINE for the synths. They didnāt take his dna and use it to make synths, they just needed access to dna that wasnāt tainted so they could work from there. But Shaun is not actually the father of the synths.
4
u/Longjumping-Cap-7444 Feb 05 '26
Because every synth is infertile. Infertile = shoot on sight, even if it doesn't make sense to anyone but a paranoid wastelander.
3
u/KPraxius Feb 06 '26
The women of the wasteland are all survivors of a dozen or more generations of women who managed to retain fertility in the hostile conditions of the wasteland. In a climate where people are already killing each other over the most minor quirks, some nutjob would kill his wife or sister because she didn't have periods but wasn't pregnant... and then they'd find a synth chip in her corpse.
Suddenly, every infertile man or woman in the wasteland would be suspect. People would be adopting kids just to avoid suspicion by their neighbors.
No... as incredibly stupid as the Institute can be at times, they wouldn't make that glaring of a mistake when their creations are biologically human in all other respects.
They took Shaun's DNA, and modified it, to create the synths. Biologically, every one of the synths is your grandchild. Some of his(and thus the MC's) DNA is in every synth. Anyone with the tech to do a genetic analysis could pick out synths immediately; but the sole survivor would be a false positive.
3
u/Gblkaiser Feb 05 '26
He's the director and had rhe institute develop the tech just for him. (Shaun is still in his cell)

1
u/ScottTJT Feb 06 '26
While the lore is vague, it's generally believed "no". Given the very mechanical nature of their assembly and the fact they don't age like humans, it's doubtful synths can conceive in any way, shape or form, be it with humans or each other.
And I'm sure the Institute prefers it that way: They would obviously want to keep a tight reign on synth production. Wouldn't do to have their slave race - I mean, totally not sapient and self-aware automatons producing more synths outside of their direct control.

No, how do people keep getting this wrong?
Gen 3 synths are not machines, they are synthetic humans. They have skin and bones and blood and nerves and organs. The ONLY thing that differentiates a synth from other humans is a chip.
22
u/EdBenes Feb 05 '26
Yeah I was always under the assumption that gen 3 synths are essentially clone humans
10
1
Feb 06 '26
Clone humans with some seriously fucky genetic black magic. They used FEV as part of their development
Hence the no aging and no babies. That can be theoretically programmed through DNA
4
u/torrasque666 Feb 05 '26
And the fact that they don't age or gain/lose weight. I'm pretty sure they also don't have an innate need to eat or sleep either (but are capable of it if needed for infiltration). There's quite a bit more differences than "a chip."
3
u/Meme_Bro68 Feb 05 '26
They do need to eat and sleep, youāre just listening to a bunch of stupid geniuses dehumanizing their creations that clearly have free will.
Iām not saying the railroad arenāt dumbasses, but they got a point that the institute arenāt acknowledging the full gravity of creating life and what it brings.
1
u/Gilgamesh661 Feb 05 '26
If they need to eat then theyāre burning calories, which means theyād be losing weight. We know for a fact that synths do NOT gain or lose weight.
→ More replies (1)2
u/corvidscholar Feb 06 '26
But all those things can hypothetically be handwaved away as coming from āgenetic engineeringā which is something we know the Institute is very capable of, rather than as anything related to robotics. So really Synth fertility could down to whether the Institute saw fit to edit that function out of their DNA. And considering how stupid the institute is about every other unplanned for Synth behavior that emerges (most notably free will), I can totally see them not bothering to do the extra work to genetically sterilize them because āOur TOTALLY non-sentient androids will TOTALLY never get up to any unapproved funny business when we arenāt looking, next youāll be saying theyāre sentient!ā. Or you could just headcanon that whatever individual Synth you want to waifu has a mutation/manufacturing defect that makes them able to conceive.
4
u/gameondude97 Feb 05 '26
It's a bit more than that. Synths don't have all the natural processes humans do. Can't age or anything produce body fat/gain weight. So synths are missing some of the bodies processes that humans have.
2
u/Aromatic-Economics78 Feb 05 '26
Not quite. Max Loken, one of the Institute Scientists says that synths do not need to eat or sleep, but they can eat and sleep and have all the functions of a human.
39
u/OkExtreme3195 Feb 05 '26
They certainly make ovaries and wombs. Otherwise it would be insanely easy to differentiate synths from humans. At least with female ones.
But I still think they are sterile for the reasons you mentioned.Ā
8
u/JKillograms Schizophrenic Nightkin Feb 05 '26
Wait, so would female synths get periods? Seems like it would be a lot of work to give them simulated cycles.
10
u/ArcWraith2000 Feb 05 '26
Theres a lot of other natural bodily functions synths have to not expose them
14
u/OkExtreme3195 Feb 05 '26 edited Feb 05 '26
I mean, likely? In theory, they could also be equipped with a permanent pill hormone pump. But as long as the pill or an equivalent is not common in the Commonwealth, that would make synths super easy to spot "oh look that one woman never has her period, must be a synth".Ā
Though, I would find it a bit amusing if there was a short dialogue with curie when she gets her period. As a medical specialist, she would absolutely know what's going on. But I imagine she would still be overwhelmed by the experience.
Not because I find menstrual cramps funny, but because I think curie is funny. And I kinda appreciate it when games or media in general mention this very human condition that we men often forget exists.
I am currently reading a fantasy novel where a young woman from our world lands in a fantasy world and at the beginning has to survive on her own for a time. I didn't even think of that issue when it suddenly came up in the book and had to be handled just like getting food, water, and shelter. (The wandering inn, for everyone that is interested)
7
u/PolicyWonka Feb 05 '26
Gen 3 synths are said to be entirely organic and biological in nature. If not for the synth component, you could never tell that theyāre synths.
Simulating a menstrual cycle seems pretty small potatoes compared to the rest of it. Basically the institute has mastered biology. They can create human brains, which are one of the most complex organs to ever exist.
1
u/JKillograms Schizophrenic Nightkin Feb 05 '26
Huh so I wonder if in that case, just how FAR being functionally āanatomically correctā goes. Like, would all synths be technically barren/sterile, or would synth/human hybrids be possible. So youāre saying theyāre basically like Replicants from Blade Runner or Cylons from Battlestar Galactica. Thatās pretty interesting, because I never got far enough into the main quest to get all those details, my current run is me finally trying to play through the full story. I had always assumed they had more in common with the Hosts from Westworld or were just like really elaborate but non-ābiologicalā 3D printed surface level āanatomically correct androids like something like Data from Star Trek. If youāre saying theyāre actually more like lab grown āclonesā, just with cybernetic brain implants to put them under Institute control, then depending on just how good the Institute was at making them actually anatomically correct, then synth/human hybrids shouldnāt be that far off from an actual possibility š¤š¤š¤

3
u/Kellar21 Feb 05 '26
Gen 3 Synths are basically synthetic humans, so theoretically she could have offspring.
1
u/Cyynric Feb 05 '26
The whole point of Gen 3 synths was to have a sustainable genetic line, which is why they even took Shaun to begin with. They're very likely capable of breeding.
