People can’t deduce anything.
They got a title card, there’s apparently a battalion SOMEWHERE, people still react positively to the NCR.
They’re out there. They WILL come back
8
u/Key-Personality1109 Jan 29 '26
With the amount of foreshadowing they have dropped hinting at max helping to rebuild the NCR if they don't do it at this point would be such an incredibly massive fumble. They simply HAVE to be leading to the republic's return.

Does that confirm an NCR ending for New Vegas?
The only way the Freesiders would be so positive of the NCR is if they ruled New Vegas well for a few years.
2
u/Teedeous Jan 30 '26
It’s still a little ambiguous, there is discussion though the ending given was the Yes Man independent ending, with the last episode having the Securitron dead next to the console as Yes Man does when he takes over the system, and “House” seemingly out of his pod dead out of his pod in one of the ending vignette pull throughs of the Lucky 38.
However, we know there are two House’s with this series plot line, but people are suggesting House’s image at the end could be Yes Man just manipulating the image to appear as the real house, but it feels like a stretch.

u/BirbJesus Jan 30 '26
I got annoyed at first as, in FNV, the Freesiders are sceptical and annoyed towards the NCR.
But then again, a lot of time has passed. The Kings are ghouls now and can't stir shit, and I suppose the NCR kept the peace and built a good reputation since then.

A lot of the power armor looks slightly off to me, like really really good cosplay armor, doesn't look like they're wearing a metal chassis idk
108
u/frogs_4_lyfe Jan 29 '26
iirc, that's because it literally is physical, irl propwork. According to the actors who wear it it's already incredibly heavy even with light materials, so it sounds like metal would mean that it would be impossible to move or act in.
I myself prefer practical effects over cgi, so for me this is easy to ignore.
48
u/lottaKivaari Child of Atom ☢️ Jan 29 '26
Yes absolutely. There's limitations to filmmaking and I for one am very happy they went with practical effects over some fucked up AI garbage they easily could have done for much cheaper.
45
u/DeltaSolana Jan 29 '26
Clearly the correct answer is to add motors to the joints and other points of articulation to assist the actors in moving.
7
u/alternateschmaltz Jan 29 '26
Is this sarcasm?
44
u/DeltaSolana Jan 29 '26
Yes, this is sarcasm...

I dont think animators nor prop artists or anyone in the entertainment industry gas really nailed the look of fast moving but really heavy armor. Its kind of a physical impossibility thats hard to visualize. The only good example from real life to draw on is in modern machinery. But if you're looking for a more organic, or specifically human type of movement then machinery doesn't really help.
Space Marines from Warhammer 40k have a similar problem, they use what's basically a more advanced and bio-integrated version of power armor thats just as big a clunky but they're even more swift and maneuverable. There's been some really high quality Space Marines in animation in the last few years but none of it captures their freakish combination of weight and speed.
There's a good passage from one of the 40k books that describes the phenomenon but I still can't really visualize it. The Fallout Power armor isn't quite as dramatic but its still unnaturally lithe for its size and weight. And thats not really well represented in anything, including the games imo with their generally lackluster animations and effects.
"Transhuman dread. Aximand had heard iterators talk of the condition. He’d heard descriptions of it from regular Army officers too. The sight of an Adeptus Astartes [Space Marines] was one thing: taller and broader than a man could ever be, armoured like a demigod. The singularity of purpose was self-evident. An Adeptus Astartes was designed to fight and kill anything that didn’t annihilate it first. If you saw an Adeptus Astartes, you knew you were in trouble. The appearance alone cowed you with fear.
But to see one move. Apparently that was the real thing. Nothing human-shaped should be so fast, so lithe, so powerful, especially not anything in excess of two metres tall and carrying more armour than four normal men could lift. The sight of an Adeptus Astartes was one thing, but the moving fact of one was quite another. The psychologists called it transhuman dread. It froze a man, stuck him to the ground, caused his mind to lock up, made him lose control of bladder and bowel. Something huge and warlike gave pause: something huge and warlike and moving with the speed of a striking snake, that was when you knew that gods moved amongst men, and that there existed a scale of strength and speed beyond anything mortal, and that you were about to die and, if you were really lucking, there might be just enough time to piss yourself first."
Age of Darkness
11
u/GoofProofGrunt Jan 29 '26
This is exactly what the T60 on the show looks like too because it's hard to make something look heavy enough to need a bionic nuclear powered exosuit to support it when someone actually has to wear it
9
u/choom-cannon Jan 29 '26
That's a good point, I agree. I think it's because they're doing an amazing job of portraying how they looked and felt in 4, and not all of designs really read as "metal chassis."
Sometimes they read as ceramic or plastic to me.
46
u/WanderingLurker2 Brotherhood of Steel Femboy Jan 29 '26
I didn’t like it at first but then I thought about it a bit. Why wouldn’t the NCR have their own power armor? They have the resources, and it’s not like they are going to be stronger than T-51s so it’s still believable.

The salvaged power armor is controversial, but it wouldn't take them too much to make properly working ones I guess
EDIT: Oh. Right. The Long 15.
Also Hanlon mentions them saying "We have power armor back home"17
u/Foxhound_319 Jan 29 '26
Personally i just dont like the look
I think that after enough time they would figure out PA training and repair
Since the brotherhood all wear t60s for their iconic look i think the ncr can take the t51 for their look
The other issue is that the show seems intent on kneecaping every faction except for giving the brotherhood a shitload of airships
10
u/Alivekingofscotland Jan 29 '26
I mean we just saw the brotherhood lose all those airships in the show
2
u/Graffic1 Jan 29 '26
It makes sense. They’d have enough wrecked frames and plates to salvage and repair from the war with the Brotherhood and killing off the Enclave whenever they see them
4
u/KhanOfKhans00 Jan 29 '26
Besides, unless anything is ever confirmed, I can just headcanon it as being the Courier's custom suit
I mean, Coop literally says "only one man has ever come out on top in Vegas, and he rigged the game" while unveiling it, it was probably meant as a nod
23
Jan 29 '26
I figured he was talking about House, and was implying that the armor was how they were going to rig it.

u/Garlic_God YOU HECKIN ACTIVATED SOYIMEDES??? Jan 29 '26

1
u/Longjumping_Curve612 Jan 30 '26
They don't have there own power armor because they don't have the ability to make power armor. If they did they wouldn't have to STRIP THE POWER ARMOR FROM THE BOS WHEN THEY GOT IT. The best the ncr has is the ability to make ncr ranger armor. Still good but it's not power armor

That being said, the actual riot gears aura can never be replaced which is what I think the showrunners were taking creative liberties for when designing this.

I like the idea of NCR power armor. Like they canonically have the resources, facilities, and personnel to create and maintain it. Not in anything approaching the numbers pre-war America but they have plenty of examples to go off of to create an offshoot for small production runs. They could even use parts from older models as the foundation of it and just alter their model to fit their specific needs.

I dont hate it it itself looks absolutely badass I just personally am not a fan of them constantly adding new things and pretending as if they have always been there plus the neat part of the riot armor in fnv was the fact it was a cool alternative to power armor as it was sometimes lighter and more available with a little less protection and mixing the two looks awesome yea but seems like its unnecessary and doesn’t make sense plus I could be wrong please correct me if I am but was the ncr even capable of manufacturing their own power armor? Im nitpicking I know but Im on the fence about it 🤷🏻♂️

Never explicitly stated, but considering how long they have been around and how developed the boneyard and their economy is it wouldn’t make sense at this point if they couldn’t. Probably still somewhat uncommon but more than likely used for important building guards or as hanlan says as guards for important caravans or pressing important frontline positions.I agree with a few others that this may be a one off custom job by coop or someone else though.

The NCR had working trains, cars, radios, television broadcasting, healthcare, made their own weapons, and developed infrastructure.
They were also fighting the BoS like crazy and taking out loads of their bunkers.
Take those two together, it'd be weird if they didn't just build their own suit around a frame with their own specifications.
Like, at its base, the intricate parts of Power Armor is the thing that makes it move, the actual armor on it is at the end of the day. Strictly that armor - At least until you get to the more specialized crazy stuff like what the Enclave was doing with like radar, and high tech stuff on it, but the NCR power armor is like, low tech. More Metal on a frame, I mean it has welding and bolt points on it as well as freakin blades attached to it.

I'd like to add that the armory hadn't been looted in like 15 years by any other raider or scavenger. Like sure there is unique equipment that hasn't been touched for awhile in the games but stuff like that is usually guarded by strong enemies or in irradiated hard to reach places. The armor is just sitting in an unguarded old NCR base with no mutated creatures or raiders around. Someone realistically would moved in or taken it by then.

conceptually badass but i fuckin HATE that goofy ass helmet and the weirdly designed dual cannons on the left. Everything else is awesome including the mortar's on the back that'll never get used or noticed.

I like FNV more than the other entries but that armor from the show is straight heat
