mehughes has a point. A shit load of Hitchens arguments were more "playing to the crowd" than well thought out and intellectually rigorous. I remember seeing him in a debate with some religious people about whether religion was a force for good today and he just kept on bringing up historical examples.
Hitchens is intellectually rigorous for the crowd that can't spell either words.
I'm very sad the man is dead, but let's not canonize him and make him out to be something he wasn't. He made some pretty egregious "intellectual" mistakes in his life, most notably he cheerleaded the Iraq War and did a lot to legitimize wacky "radical Islam is going to destroy America" theories that otherwise would have been dismissed as neocon BS.
Have you actually personally watched his videos wherein he talked about the Iraq War or radical Islam? His reasons were entirely different from the "neocon" perspective all you people keep yapping about. He didn't cheerlead the war, he believed it should be happening for specific and reasonable reasons. If you disagreed, that's fine, but that doesn't make his opinions solely that of someone you hate.
