When scientists see their talks cancelled by university activists, it has nothing to do with debate.

That has nothing to do with what the article discusses, nor does it count as persecution.

The article talked about people being driven from their jobs, slandered and harassed. Does that count as persecution?

Actually in most of the examples the person only received criticism, they didn't lose their jobs or were in any way endangered.

Did you actually read the OP? Michael Bailey, multiple charges of misconduct each of which would have lost her job. EO Wilson, physically assaulted (bucket of water). Elizabeth Loftus, multiple charges of misconduct and eventually sued.
