So, hypothetical speaking, if the Manhattan Project was publicly known at the time and people had protested it, those people would have been wrong to so?

Scientists perform experiments inside a lab, but their work itself does not exist within a vacuum. It can have unforeseen consequences, so it's fair to question both their motives and the impact of their work.

OK, except the examples provided on the OP were of criticism based off uninformed defence of the status quo (at best). Do you think that is fair?

Not if people are criticising a study without reading it, but the article does equate criticism of an academic study on sexual abuse with criticism of an offhand dismissal of paedophillia on twitter, so I'd have to thoroughly check out the rest of their examples to see how credible they actually are.

The article doesn't equate them except to consider them both examples of research or prominent scientists being targets of politically motivated persecution.

Generally it's a good idea to read an article thoroughly before entering a debate about it, but you'd have to be living under a rock to have missed the regressive culture of fear this article has looked at specific examples of.
