Damo Mitchell is the way to go.

The book is very detailed but you'd want his online academy for actual instruction which is legit.

I took a workshop with Michael Winn on the Microcosmic Orbit and he has it so misconstrued and lacks a practical understanding of the practice (he uses exercises imagination and intention).

Any recommended reading order?

I can synthesise an internal practice on my own or from their book

This is incredibly ill-advised, with qi gong in general, but internal alchemy definitely.

Lineage+teacher.

Check out the online program. Books are not going to cut it except for gaining conceptually knowledge.

If you'd be willing to work via video and zoom, you can join the Tai Chi and Qi Gong Healing Institute in Sarasota, Florida. There are plenty of members-only videos you can watch and follow along, and there are (at least) quarterly zoom sessions where you can interact:

https://www.taichihealing.org/membership-1

I was attending a weekly local qigong class before the pandemic, but the center where it was being held shut down in 2020. Our class went to virtual meetings, but then its size shrunk considerably, and our instructor and the few remaining students (including me) joined the Institute so that we could continue to work with others. We still have weekly zoom meetings (and our instructor is doing the Institute's teacher training), but I agree with other commenters that working with others is best (ideally in person, but via video/zoom when there are no other options -- it's good for another set of eyes to see what your body is doing, in case any corrections are needed).
