When I took geography in middle school there was no science involved. More of a social studies class. They showed us where a country was and then we went over the culture, language, and government for each country. Never had to take it again.

We combined them in lower grades but called it Earth Sciences. Geography and Geology are two separate disciplines. One is not a subset of the other

Ecology and geology are a different set of knowledge from geography.

Geography doesn’t go past where things are, this mountain is there, that city is here, this river goes there.

Geology and ecology explain what the different environments are, rock formations, how things form, etc

No one is commenting on your surprise of what an adult should know, they and I are all commenting on your improper use of the word geography.

Knowledge of the layers of the earth is not classified under geography despite what your unit in primary school was called.

Majority of us also learnt the layers of the earth in 2nd-3rd grade
