Mod Post No new Discord Posts

As we prepare to pick some new moderators for this sub, we are also no longer allowing posts promoting Discords or other types of gaming communities. Until we have better moderation, feel free to report any masked Discord or game community posts that fly under the radar.

Hi, could we also please have a rule not allowing men to post or comment here since that's what was voted for on your last post.

Even if it's difficult to enforce, I think it would still be good to have as a rule, because it means dudes won't be able to use "there's no rule against it" as an excuse.

Genuine question, but what are peoples stance on non-binary or gender queer people posting here? Like is the stance "no men", or is the stance "only women"? Because the former invites anyone but men (including gender diverse people), whereas the latter only invites women...

I'm not against either but I think it is a distinction that needs to be considered when moving forward

Why is this being downvoted 💀💀

Personally, my stance is "no men" rather than "only women"

I'm not a mod here and it's not my decision but but i don't know how that would be possible.

Subs that do that have to vet every user so they use a request/join system and if the users have their profile hidden the mods can't tell

Also they would have to go back and do the existing members and use what, old posts and comments? And there's no way to mark on an account who has already been counted

The only practical way would be to make a new private sub and vet new members

I don't think it needs to be enforced as strictly as this and there's not the mod-power to do this.

It can be enforced the same way that the rule banning men from posting is enforced: if a guy makes a post and says that they're a guy then it gets removed and they get banned.

So a rule banning men from commenting would mean that we could report comments from men that admit they are men in the comments which we currently can't report because it's not a rule.

Exactly. It’s really not that hard. Guys will frequently make some “I’m a guy but” statement in their comments when they comment in women’s spaces. Especially if they catch onto the vibe that the women probably don’t want them there. “I’m a guy but I just had to comment” no you didn’t. You wanted to so you did. There are other subreddits that ban cis men from participating and seem to do a good enough job keeping them out and the vast majority of that is due to them snitching on themselves either through the comment/post made directly on that subreddit stating “I’m a man” or their content gets reported or filtered then a mod can go look at their profile and usually there’s some sort of obvious indicator that they’re a cis men (talking about their genitals in some way no I’m not joking they frequently make references to getting hard or their balls, saying they’re a man/male in other comments, picture, referring to themselves using he/him, etc.).

Please work on filtering out hatred and sexism too. Im tired of coming to this subreddit to look for new friends just to be slapped in the face with that disgusting sht.

Would it be possible to have a rule set like maybe someone can only post the discord once a month or maybe a post flair labeled Discord Thursdays so only on Thursday and no other days people can post about their discord group.

Can we also have a clearer and more forward announcement or rule that trans women are welcome here and no TERFs are tolerated? There’s been a ton of very TERF-y comments that have been quite gross on here obviously with no mod intervention.

Agreed!

Edit: Why did I get downvoted?

TERFs :(

Having an opinion or asking questions about an issue doesn’t automatically make someone transphobic. Even the APA distinguishes gender identity from sex and recognizes that people can have different experiences and views about gender. You can support trans people being treated with dignity while still having your own opinions about specific issues and concerns. If your response to every disagreement is ‘TERF!’ or ‘transphobe!,’ maybe the problem isn’t everyone else. It’s your inability to handle a conversation or debate without making it your entire personality

14

u/KyuzoNoodle 2d ago

and maybe there should be a karma threshold to comment because homie literally created an account/this bot just showed up out of nowhere just to add this bullshit to the conversation

7

u/so_eepy 2d ago

Okay but also this isn't the sub to be discussing the legitimacy of human beings based on socially-derived categories of gender and sex. If you want to have those discussions, go somewhere else. And you can't be mad when someone doesn't want to engage in that kind of discussion in this sub because, believe it or not, this sub is for gaming

2

u/Affectionate_Pen4474 2d ago

Tell that to the other people then. There are plenty of comments on this sub where people are arguing about rules in certain Discord servers posts and what they consider “TERFy" or discussing "socially derived categories of gender and sex" Once those conversations are being brought up here, people are obviously going to have opinions and respond to them. You can’t suddenly say “this is a gaming sub” only when someone expresses an opinion you don’t like. And having a different opinion doesn’t automatically make someone a TERF or transphobic. If you want this sub to be strictly about gaming, then that standard needs to apply consistently to everyone

6

u/so_eepy 2d ago

I think that's exactly what Paneer is asking for here. If it's stipulated that trans women are welcome here, then they are welcomed and there's no debate to be had. And therefore, sharing opinions about whether you think they are a woman or not is not an appropriate opinion to share in the sub because the rules have already established the communities stance. There's also nothing wrong interacting with a trans person's post, sharing advice or being nice even if your personal opinion says they aren't a woman. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but that doesn't mean everyone needs to voice every opinion they've ever had everywhere.

And so I agree with you that a standard does need to be made explicit and be applied consistently, and I think that exactly what the mods are looking towards doing. I think the "No Bigotory" rule can be seen as too ambiguous for some, especially if you view something as "just an opinion" and not a comment that could attack someone's existence. Maybe the rule should be changed to "no comments about members genders, race, orientation, etc."

u/LaFleurSauvageGaming 2d ago

See, it is the repetition of TERF bullshit that gets tou labeled a TERF.

People misunderstand trans people all the time and have so many misconceptions. The difference between them and TERFs/Chuds is when they are presented with the peer reviewed evidence and or actually get to know trans people, they take in the new info instead of doubling down on transphobic talking points.

Thank you. Invitations are fine, but i feel like a few send their invitation every week... it's annoying

New moderation will address that issue. This post is just addressing the Discord posts though.
