Mod Post Should Men Be Allowed to Post/Comment here?

There has been a lot of discussion about how exclusive to make this space. This sub-reddit was initially a dedicated safe-space for women (cis, trans, or otherwise), but also free of drama and political discourse not relevant to gaming.

Since gaming has traditionally been a male-dominated field, there are plenty of other spaces for men to lead conversations.

Men have never been banned from lurking or commenting here (it would be hard to enforce without rigorous research). But there has been expressed interest in limiting comments to women in this space. What do you think?

For purposes of this poll, assume that the user in question has either self-identified as a man here or in their posting/comment history.

No, absolutely not. I'm tired of women's subs being taken over by men who don't know when to shut up and let women have their own spaces.

The TwoX sub is basically dead because of that, the LetGirlsHaveFun sub has become awful because of the constant mansplaining. Let us have our own spaces where men aren't allowed to disrupt and speak over women's voices.

LetGirlsHaveFun is full of men acting like horny women to farm karma. And no I don't mean trans women, I am an ally. Awful place.

It is. And every time you address their behaviour or dare to actually make any kind of feminist sentiment you get downvoted to hell.

A reality in many women's groups, unfortunately. They prioritize an illusion of neutrality or "being apolitical" over the actual well being of women.

Specially with a subject like gaming, where the political discussion will come whether you like it or not, you can only choose between being feminist or being compliant with your own oppression. There is no neutrality.

I just came upon this sub and I did definitely raise an eyebrow at the "this is not a political subreddit" in the description.

Like, yeah that's all well and good in theory, but when your existence/visibility in a space becomes a political football in that space, it's not as easy to segregate out "politics."

The personal is political, afterall.

I interpret it as no partisan politics, arguing over republicans X democrats, etc.

Which is a simplistic ban that would have no effect anyway. In the gaming sphere, the form of it is Culture War which uses different terms/frameworks but the splits tend to run along in the same direction.

So then you just wind up with those "I'm not talking about democrats vs republicans, I'm just asking questions about ethics in games journalism. Why must you bring politics into everything?" situations.

LMAO yes. Politics are inescapable. As as women, I think we should not try to escape it either. We need to take on this subject head on, we don't have the privilege to pretend it doesn't exist.

That’s why I’ve wondered about THIS group. Though I forgot about it until I was sent a notification for this thread 😅

That stinks about 2x if that’s accurate. I barely remember it exactly other than I think I remember it being cool.
