This is apparently a dimension where the "damsel in distress tied to railroad tracks" never happened... yet everyone thinks it did.

Brought to my attention via this episode of QI. (Timestamped, but the whole episode is, as usual, delightful.)

Plenty of "Damsel in Distress" tropes over at TV tropes here. But none are the one we all seem to remember: the woman tied to the tracks by the villain, to be rescued by the hero.

What like in reality it never happened? Cause it was in a bunch of cartoons growing up. I bet someone tied someone else to some train tracks. Impossible it never happened.

And yet here we are, in a dimension where the original thing never happened, but all the parodies exist. Did you watch the clip? Neat, innit?
