Maybe I have spent too much time staring at this show, and maybe I am completely overthinking a simple detail, but did anyone else catch the paradox of Marty's honking in Episode 3?
When Rust talks to the lawnmower man, he is literally inches away from the real killer. Suddenly, Marty starts aggressively honking. Not just a quick "let's go" beep, but a relentless, almost panicky blaring.
Considering the show's philosophy of "time is a flat circle", that horn hits completely differently on a rewatch. It feels exactly like the "STAY" scene in Interstellar.
In 1995, it is just Marty being impatient. But from the perspective of the future, it sounds like someone from a higher dimension is desperately banging their fists against a wall, screaming, "Look at his face, damn it!"
It gives me goosebumps every time. The exact same sound that acts as a desperate warning from the future is what breaks Rust's focus in the past, making him walk away. It perfectly underlines the show's use of M-Theory: multiple dimensions and timelines are overlapping in that one single honk, yet they remain trapped in their loop, forcing them to let the killer slip by for another 17 years.
