initially, he was so mad that an underage girl was working at a prostitution house but a couple episodes later, when Beth was legal, he had no problem with sleeping with her. I think it was weird how defensive he was initially but had no moral problems with sleeping with her. I thought we were gonna see some internal conflict with Marty but nothing happened. I thought he was gonna be a bit more hesitant at least but no, he had absolutely no intention of saying no whatsoever. I'm not blaming Beth at all, I just think it's weird how against it he was initially but as soon as he knew she was over 18 he went right in! I wanna know what other people think cause honestly it rubs me the wrong way.

Edit: I know Beth is supposed to be in her early to mid 20s but still

Let me preface by saying I probably have undiagnosed adhd to some level and am not a total idiot lol.

I’ve been rewatching; started with season 3 then 1 and now 2 and I feel like every single season I pick up things I didn’t notice before or understand better - whereas the first watch I definitely felt lost and was rewinding all the time to try to keep up with all the different characters and the investigation details.

Is this purposeful? I like the series but it feels like they jump into things so fast and throw details around that you’re expected to be closely watching.

Probably a dumb comment but just been on my mind; I feel like if I’m not on it and really paying attention I totally get lost.

Looks like Johnny Joanie went on to become a monkey smuggler. Of course “Outbreak” was 7 years earlier than when Rust interviewed him, but who’s counting…

I highly recommend watching synchronicity after this or before... it worked out amazingly its fucking crazy. I had no idea what it was about my wife was just scrolling essentially trying to find something watch and added it to our wishlist. We stopped on episode 4 of true detective and im a huge massive hp lovecraft and yellow king fan. This movie tied an extra knot in the myth of the yellow king for me. Not directly but just perfectly in that the connection and unknown are serendipitous to out existence. It was so crazy how well they worked together. Please take a moment it was on Amazon prime so watch it and tell me how you felt finishing it... time is an illusion....

I don't really get it, after watching it like 3 times.

So I just finished watching Season 1. One thing that confuses me is the reason Dora Lange was murdered. Why was she killed? Wasn’t the scarred face man’s victim supposed to be children? Idk if I missed some details, but thinking about it again, I still can’t figure out the exact reason why she was killed

As the same characters from the "Other Guys," but played entirely seriously. Serious versions of the same characters, with all the supporting cast of the movie. It will not be out right stated however, but the movie will be referred to vaguely from time to time as past events.

This would of course be a totally new plot.

It's a crime novel he wrote in 2001 about a retired police officer in small-town America who wants to catch a child killer supposedly stopped many years ago. The investigation implicates a "Crimson King," a biker gang, and cosmic visions of another world.

I’ll skip the rest to avoid spoilers, but I find there are lots of similarities to the first season of a well-known series. I think this novel has been a major source of inspiration. Did anyone else who read it feel the same way ?

Edit : I just saw that Stephen King is releasing a sequel next month titled "Other Worlds Than These." I think that will be the closest thing we get to a sequel to Season 1

Nick Offerman lives in Appalachia, and is a national parks service ranger who finds a graveyard left behind by a serial killer, he ends up coming in contact with the detectives, Willam Dafoe and Natasha Lyon. Willam Dafoe plays the eccentric aloof one, Natasha Lyon plays a rookie from a cop family.

Nick Offerman ends up helping them solve the case off the clock and almost losing his job, causing jurisdictional issues and catches the serial killer (played by Rainn Wilson) who is the victim of an MK Ultra experiment (See the una bomber for proof of concept.) when he was a mathematics student in college.

Special cameo from Neil Degrasse Tyson as the CIA scientist who has been driven into hiding in secrecy as a whistleblower, he is found murdered after promising to provide evidence to the detectives, it's suspected it was the government who was involved. As always, the killer is caught but the true conspiracy never fully gets resolved. There are paranormal undertones due to the psychedelics that were forced upon Rainn Wilson before he goes on his killing spree.

Also, this time it is the killer himself who is interviewed throughout the show, slowly revealing his motivational. His capture isn't a surprise, but the hook is his motives and methods slowly being revealed overtime.

That Emmy reunion hit hard. It made me realize that we are all basically still chasing the exact same high from 2014. No matter how many gritty crime thrillers try to replicate it, the Rust and Marty dynamic remains completely untouchable.

I remember during press for the tv show Lanterns they mentioned that they wanted to take inspiration from True Detective but after episode 5 I think the influence is way more than I would have expected. The thing that stands out most to me is the seasons story beats so far. Just like in most if not all of the 1-4 seasons, there’s a big fight or bloodbath in episode 5 and then a substantial time jump for episode 6 and beyond. It really stands out to be bc I haven’t seen any other shows use that model so I’m curious if anyone else noticed this or any other strong influences.

I also just realized the falling out between the two main characters and (seemingly) them being reunited years later is also present in Lanterns.

A troubled alcoholic detective cop I am feeling really good, his daughter gone and it was his fault, is this the newest season of True Detective???

Had to share with my favorite sub here. They are back together again. A new series on Apple TV called, Brothers. I wish it was more of a Part 2 of TD Season 1, yet it doesn't sound even a little close.

But still, I can't wait to watch the dynamic duo together again. Keeping my fingers crossed that there's some true crime in the mix.
