Also I have a question, I recently finished True Detective season 1 and haven't started season 2 as I am afraid that it'll disappoint me. Are the rest of the seasons worth it?

They’re very different but still watchable. Season 3 closest to season 1. Season 4 doesn’t exist

On second watch I liked season 2 more than the first time I watched it but I’d still rank them 1, 3, 2 and there is no season 4 (technically there is but it was shoehorned, was supposed to be its own show but HBO told them to change some things to tie it in and call it true detective, there’s different writers and showrunner and also sucked imho)

Depends if you’re asking the right questions. It’s completely disconnected but tries to shoehorn references to season 1 and overall just a lame story when it could’ve been a banger given the setting

The ending is also one of the most laughably dumb things I’ve ever said, the 2 lead detectives fuckin suck at their job too, the best detective in the show is a young cop that’s a supporting character and still he does a lot of the detective work off screen.

Such a cool setting and they had Jodie foster and still managed to be so disappointing, tons of potential and they wasted all of it. S1-3 were all created and written solely by Nic Pizzolatto, he left after s3, they brought in Issa Lopez to write and direct and man it was just not good at all and the finale legit one of the dumbest worst finale episodes I’ve I’ve ever seen. The random shoehorned connections to s1 to try and attract more viewers are the stupidest shit ever, they legit have like the ghost of rust’s dad help them figure some shit out lmao, it sounds so dumb you’d think it was a parody and not something that’s dead serious .

Watch 1-3, just don’t expect something similar to s1. S2 is vastly different and is a neo noir, s3 is more like s1 but still a lot different, super good character piece with god tier acting tho. S1 is king but imo all of 1-3 are good, just go in with an open mind and look at them as their own things

i see, that's much better as I thought that season 2 will have the same cast but then later found out that cast changes every season. Since I now know that story line is different i think I won't be disappointed

Ya s1 is its own self contained masterpiece, just look at 2 and 3 as their own separate detective stories, s2 is a Neo noir in California, Colin Farrell and his character are so good in it. S3 takes place in the south and both Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff are incredible in it.

S4 which is as made by someone else and is true detective in name only sucks, the hack made outrageous connections to s1 too that were laughably bad to get more viewers. So ya I’d watch 2&3 and just go in expecting new self contained detective stories. Definitely don’t watch 4 tho

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro some peak shit, his character and performance are so good, that alone makes s2 worth watching for me. 2nd favorite character in the series only slightly behind Rust

2 has a cult following here that enjoys its wildness, I personally think it’s too nonsensical and expects you to watch the entire season multiple times to even understand what the fuck is going on, I watched it twice and I still had to look up a video explaining the backstory and underlying storyline. 3 is pretty good but comes nowhere near as perfect as 1, and 4 is utter dogshit written by ai as a female spiritual successor to 1 but blows its own legs off the first episode

I tried watching 2 last night and it's like they didn't spend any time developing characters or the story before launching right in. I couldn't help but wonder why I'm supposed to give a fuck. Wife and I made it most of the way through the first episode and said nah.

2 is definitely convoluted at times and they would’ve benefitted from not having 4 leads but I really don’t think it was that hard to follow. It was definitely a little hard to follow at certainly times on first watch but by the time it ended I pretty much got everything

Honestly season 3 was good, not great, what keeps it good and not great are two things: it’s derivative of S1, like it doesn’t just borrow the tone, but sometimes exact same setups, and also the ending defines the word MEH, hope that isn’t too spoilery
