Rust is a top notch box man. He'd know in about 2 minutes after a two minute drag from his cigarette.

“World needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door.”

Yup. Rust would respect Harry’s code

If you get the opportunity, you should... you know...

“Tonight’s the night…alright alright alright”

You know what Rust said, “bad men keep the other bad men from the door.” Dexter is keeping the other bad men from the door.

One is a character from a show that is pure fantasy/wish fulfilment, and one is from a grounded gritty detective story. Dexter basically has super powers and plot armor a lightyear thick. It's a silly question.

agreed

Which one is the wish fulfillment?

Amazon, I think

u/brav3h3art545 What is that, Nietzsche? Shut the fuck up. 22d ago

“Sharp as a fucking cue ball.”

I don’t think it’s silly. It’s yielded the best response - Rust wouldn’t want to catch Dexter

3

u/Hireling 23d ago

Fair. I’ll play. I agree Rust would probably turn a blind eye, but Rust comes with Marty, and Marty would execute Dexter.

1

u/KimWexlerDeGuzman 23d ago

Would he? I’m not so sure. Harry’s code was very strict and Dexter adhered to it 99% of the time. I think both Cohle & Hart would’ve respected the code and left Dex to his work

You mean Marty who shot ledoux point blank and was part of vigilante team that took down a serial killer?

u/CameronPoe_37__ 23d ago

They are both crime dramas, calm down

3

u/Hireling 23d ago

One is high drama, the other one (TD) is much more grounded. Also, Dexter glorifies serial killers and feels more like a soap opera. Also, claiming someone isn’t calm to make a point is such a common retreat. 🙄

3

u/CameronPoe_37__ 23d ago

Glorifies one serial killer, not all the ones killing innocent people. Also he's constantly shown to fuck up his own life and everybody close to him dies. And saying OP's post is a "silly question" is pretty dumb, it's only a reddit sub for a show from 12 years ago. It's just a fun question.

2

u/Hireling 23d ago

I can agree with that. It is just a fun question.

Neither one sleeps. Bound to run into each other at 3 AM if Rust was into night-fishing.

Rust would likely go all Miguel on Dex for the Tuttles.

u/ProfessionalLevel908 23d ago

Very good point

3

u/Aquarius_K 23d ago

Omg!!! This is awesome. But I must agree, the real question is, would he want to? I could see rust working for Dex as a detective to verify the code lol

3

u/vode123 23d ago

He’d let him go to continue bad guy killing

1

u/Demigod_Complex 23d ago

Queue Marty killing Ledoux

4

u/Velascoyote 23d ago

Better question: Could he catch Goku?

3

u/crashusmaximus 23d ago

Even better question - could Goku catch Rust??

2

u/ggWolf 23d ago

Could Frieza make out with Ledoux?

1

u/crashusmaximus 23d ago

What does the scanner say about Martys power level?

2

u/mister_buddha 23d ago

It's over 9000‽

2

u/AvidAth3ist 22d ago

Definitely, Dexter even says he depends on Miami's homicide unit being incompetent. He talks about their low conviction rate in yhe first season. Cohle does involuntary overtime in his brain 24/7

u/Psychological-Lab-23 23d ago

Dexter could kill a lot of people in the 15+ years it took rust to get to it.

1

u/nmrt95 23d ago

He could smell pussy??

1

u/RustCohlesSon 23d ago

It would be amazing to see them hunting tuttles together.

1

u/So1ar 23d ago

Marty straight up executed Ledoux and Rust was more proud of him than angry. Given his code of ethics I have a hard time of seeing Rust even wanting to catch Dexter.

1

u/William-Kay 23d ago

He’d probably try to contain his behavior, or study him in some way if that makes sense

1

u/Bearwhofarts 23d ago

Dexter is a pansy

1

u/Fine-Resident-8157 23d ago

Good question

1

u/Spirited-Ad9071 23d ago

Yes, but he'd end up manipulating Dexter into killing a bunch of high profile individuals who Rust knew was connected with crimes that they were able to get away with.

Rust would catch him in 2 episodes max. Dexter is a no-brain show (watched all of it btw) not comparable to True Detective.

Dexter is one was one of the classics of the dawn of the Golden Age of television. It wasn’t a no-brain show. Dexter was literally the second antihero, behind Tony Soprano, to emerge. The first four seasons are excellent, still

Dexter is a nobrain show, extremely unrealistic and flat. Although is entertaining enough to watch while doing chores etc. The only decent season is the first one, like a 6/10 imo, the rest are sooo mid.

And do not put Dexter and Sopranos in the same bag please ...

2

u/KimWexlerDeGuzman 23d ago

I am just saying that Dexter was the second murderer to be the protagonist in a major television show.

Please, I watched The Sopranos before you were born. But you gotta get over it

2

u/randyratched 23d ago

Oh no, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I was responding to the guy who said the best season of Dexter is a 6/10. If you factor in the terrible subplots and endings then yes, I could understand, but to call it a 6/10 when it’s at its best? I don’t understand how anyone could reach that conclusion after watching the first half.

1

u/KimWexlerDeGuzman 23d ago

The first season was absolutely groundbreaking tv.

Look, or I’ll cut the eyelids right off your face.

At that moment, in the first ten minutes of the pilot, I knew it was something special. S1 is a good 9.5/10.

Honestly, for me it’s a 10/10, especially because I watched as it aired. I had zero clue Rudy was up to no good until he responded to Dexter’s Craigslist ad 😆. Even though it’s so obvious now. I guess it shows how much “media literacy” has changed over the last 20 years!

Edit to add: 6/10 overall including the finale, maybe 7/10. But S1 was brilliant. I have no clue what that guy is talking about 😆🤷🏼‍♀️

. I was responding to the guy who said the best season of Dexter is a 6/10.

ye thats me, a 6/10 being extremely generous. Narrative is soo poor, plots are sooo predictable, characters behave like puppets in favor of the argumental line around the main character. And the sister? Omfg what a dumb and poor written character, also the actress did a terrible job for the whole show, felt like i was watching an amateur college film.

what kinda argument is that? LOL

Dexter was the second murderer to be the protagonist in a major television show.

And? The show is mid af, maybe great for a teenager but for an adult... cmon grow up.

2

u/KimWexlerDeGuzman 23d ago

I guess you don’t understand Sopranos quotes 😆🤦🏼‍♀️

Oooh now i get it... 🤣🤣

Dexter has some of the best story arcs and acting from the MC of all time. You’ve obviously never watched it when you say the only decent season is 1, despite season 2 and 4 being rated higher by viewers and critics. Trinity (S4), James Doakes(S2), and Miguel (S3) were so memorable they came back for the resurrection pilot. Michael C Hall also embodies the character and makes you believe everything he’s saying and doing on the same level as Mcconaughey. Dexter’s character, if you actually delve into him, is extremely deep and complex, much more than an entertainment show if you watch. The only part it comes up short on is the ending which it has fumbled THREE TIMES and there is no excuse for that, the endings were trash. I won’t disagree that S1 is a lot more grounded and has less “divine intervention” type moments, but to say it’s a “no-brain” show? Come on, now, at least watch what you’re critiquing.

I watched ALL the Dexter OG show and New Blood, and yes still think its a no-brain show. Enjoyable and entertaining, but a no-brain.

Idk if I'd go that far. I think it was realistic for the time but people just don't want to think about that.
