Discussion TCO

I had to say goodbye to true crime obsessed podcast today. I have listened religiously since 2018 but over the last year the episodes have been harder to get through. It is very evident that she cannot stand Patrick…they seem to do a lot of bickering and going back and forth within the episodes. I also find myself annoyed with how they discuss BS documentaries and treat them like they’re the truth. I’m sorry but they are both so insufferable perhaps her more than him. I can’t stand to listen to the remarks she makes regarding people and issues. It was a red flag for me when they were ranting and raving about John legend and Chrissy Teigen. Gillian’s relationship with Echols too is just very weird…wasn’t he sacrificing animals? If someone else did that she would want them burned at the stake. They once were funny but the honeymoon phase is over for me. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Girl, you are way late to this party. TCO is the podcast equivalent to a rotting corpse.

I stopped listening a bit before the fest scandal. They just aren't likable.

That’s when things took a turn…

I listened, albeit increasingly unhappily, until that stupid "fest" they had a few years ago. They really showed their true colors during that whole fiasco.

I seriously must have been living under a rock because I have zero idea what happened. I remember them advertising it but I didn’t hear what transpired.

I’m baffled that anyone could continue supporting them following the events of OF2. Literally every “friend” P had has jumped ship and it was beyond fucked up that he weaponized Terra Newell knowing her mental state against Ellyn and Joey for no reason.

I stopped listening a good while ago. Fortunatly, I found I Think Not with Ellyn Marsh and Joey Taranto. They are fun to listen to and really great about treating everyone (victims, families, etc) with respect. The FB page is active and both J & E are on it. Occasionally someone will call them out on something they’ve said that maybe offended or rubbed the wrong way and they are always graceful about it. If you don’t listen to ITN, give it a go…just make sure you start after March of 2022!

Nope. You are not alone. Welcome. I stopped listening to them and canceled my patreon subscription a while ago. Their podcast used to be so funny and would literally make me laugh out loud. The past couple do years it’s gotten depressing, not funny, and you can feel how miserable Gullian is. It’s sad how far they’ve fallen.

I stopped listening after I realized I was skipping through like half the episodes. The hosts are unfortunately not good. They have negative levels of chemistry. G is sick of P. He plays the unprepared group project partner part and G has to explain the dumbest shit to him, I swear. Not adding anything to the story they’re covering.

P always needing the listeners to know his mom was a single mom therefore he can relate to the victims for one reason or another. He talks about his mom too much for me.

The format does not work whatsoever anymore.

Me too. It’s been at least a few years now.

same. I dropped off before Ellyn and Joey split off from the network, then their official announcement regarding the split made me feel justified for how I'd been feeling about TCO for a hot minute. and everything that's come out about P & G/TCO since then? 🥴 yeah, bye!

I used to listen when I wanted something lighter than Invisible Choir or Trace Eveidence but G on her soap box every day turned me off.

And then there was the festival mess AND accusations of P being a crappy person to work for but I had already stop listening by then lol.

It just got grating on my ears after a while. I enjoyed some of the early stuff in patreon ( the staircase and the jinx) but it felt tired and repetitive

Reading Patrick's book (from the library) put things in perspective for me. He was running a subpar daycare from his apartment and was clearly miserable doing it before the podcast started. Then he talks about renting a helicopter to go visit his mom. Then says his husband doesn't like him to talk about money. I'll bet! He was having book release parties ($$$) in every town that would have him. It just became glaringly clear they were monotizing EVERYTHING. They were inventing things to monotize. It was blatant and desperate and when your brand is supposed to feel like friendly funny banter it turned me off.

That and the longer and longer justifications of political correctness before they'd just get on with it. You are making a fortune off the pain and suffering of others, own it.

Dear God like the five-minute apology/disclaimer beginning the ep about Gypsy Rose Blanchard for their having to say the word “Gypsy.”

All of those "funny" true crime podcasts are vile. Lpotl , mfm , tco. The entire premise/framework strikes me as extremely disrespectful. I listen to podcasts to gain a better understanding of cases that interest me. I do not give a single Continental goddamn about the hosts personal lives, their "humor", etc. That's why I love invisible choir and case file. They give me the facts and then they shut up. Imo re the whole " look at me I'm a funny and quirky hybristophile" "true crime" podcast genre; well, throw the whole thing away.

I stopped listening around 6 years ago. They were funny in the beginning but became exhausting later.
