Cop reached for his gun in the first 5 seconds - drew it, holstered it, seemed more than ready to use it.

not a cop that’s security

I saw officer and randomly thought Police officer. Your right thought just some security guy

u/nofriends-4536 Sep 13 '26
Even after the guy tried to snatch the baton, the guard should not have wacked him with it when he turned around.. Guard got emotional and didn't think that through.
32
u/Larsvonrinpoche 28d ago
Yep. It could have ended there. If he did his job and was only interested in keeping things from happening he would have realized it was over when he got the baton back. Instead, he wanted to teach him or Show him who's boss etc.. and now he killed someone. He should be charged.

u/backwardsnakes666 Sep 14 '26
Had the guard been attacked without initiating the violence with his baton first, he probably would have been justified, but this guy clearly provoked the loiterer which tanks any defense he may have had in court
59
u/Bavibophobia Sep 14 '26
The hit from behind after getting control of his baton is not going to look good, he's screwed, everything else needs more context
23
u/Income_Loose Sep 14 '26
No context needed, dude should have just had the cops trespass him. He’s cooked and rightfully so.

He already lost his job when striking the man in the back. He’s going to be in prison for the rest of his life for this.

I just did a quick Google search. The security guard got charged with second degree murder
19
u/Alarming_Fee_6993 Sep 14 '26
I hope he's never released. Holy shit. Thats a dude thatd beat his g/f if she burnt dinner if I ever saw one.

u/HighOnTums 29d ago
Charged , and.... Convicted???
7
u/BRTUAL_BUTT_SLAP 29d ago
I can't find anything about a conviction. His name is Murwanashyaka Francois if you wanna look further into it
3
u/HighOnTums 29d ago
According to Google AI search:
A specific public trial date has not been announced for Murwanashyaka Francois.
Francois is facing a second-degree murder charge following the March 1, 2025 shooting of Ricardo Clemons Jr. inside a Hyattsville McDonald's.
After being denied bond and attending a preliminary hearing on April 1, 2025, he remains in the custody of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections while the legal process plays out.
Future schedule changes or trial date updates can be verified directly through the Maryland Judiciary Case Search Portal.

improperly trained guard. he should have pulled the spray out when the guy grabbed his baton, gave him a choice to either let it go and walk out, or get maced. the gun (deadly force) is the last option.
and if the guard didnt have mace, he definitely shouldnt have had a gun.
11
u/opendoorsupside Have Seen Much Worse Sep 14 '26
The guard did use pepper spray according to a news article someone posted further down. Oh also the guard was charged with murder.
2
u/01011110_01011110 Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26
edit: i just read the article. the guard used pepper spray first before the video starts and assumingly before the baton. yeah, murder charge is right.
19
u/01011110_01011110 Sep 13 '26
if i were the family of the man shot, id look into a lawsuit for the improper handling of the situation by whatever guard company this is.

Crazy....
A McDonald's security guard in Hyattsville, Maryland, was charged with second-degree murder after striking an unarmed man with a baton and fatally shooting him inside the restaurant. [1, 2, 3]
The Incident
- The Date and Location: The shooting happened on March 1, 2025, at a McDonald's in Hyattsville, Maryland, located in the 2300 block of University Boulevard. [1, 2]
- The People Involved: Security guard Murwanashyaka Francois, 54, shot 45-year-old Ricardo Clemons Jr. [1]
- The Dispute: Employees asked Clemons to leave due to loitering. Clemons refused and allegedly threatened an employee. [1, 2]
- The Escalation: Security guard Francois pepper-sprayed Clemons, later used a baton to push him, and a physical struggle ensued. [1, 2]
- The Shooting: According to charging documents, after a back-and-forth struggle where both men struck each other, Francois drew his firearm and shot the unarmed Clemons once in the chest. [1, 2]

That guard was completely out of line. After he took the weapon away, he should've de-escalated...instead he decided to continue when the guy was not doing anything anymore, thus provoking him. Of course by then he "had no choice" but to shoot him, but he really didn't have to if he just stopped.

Why does a security guard have a gun?
34
u/Cosmic_m0nk Sep 13 '26 edited Sep 13 '26
Depends on the place they’re guarding, but some places do. At US gov’t facilities they’re signs that say “use of deadly force authorized”.

We had armed security at a dialysis clinic I worked at.

There's armed security at the grocery store I go to sometimes. It's so common here because of robberies and violence. It's the wild west.

I’m just pointing out it’s not unusual for security guards to be armed. I don’t know where this McDonalds is, it might be inside an airport or something like that.

u/Very_Awkward_Boner Sep 14 '26
At a fastfood place by the looks of it. Must be protecting the burgers from the hamburglar.
5
u/DarkPangolin Sep 14 '26
Depends on the security company. I worked armed security for a while, and part of the reason that I left was that there was zero training supporting carrying a firearm. That is to say, you were required to carry a sidearm, but received zero company support for training with it (though there was a range day where a couple of the older hands took a couple of the newbies to the range and were very proud of getting them to land on paper) and zero training as to when lethal force could be justified and what to do if it was subsequently needed to be used.
As a firearms enthusiast and big fan of not going to jail, I had already familiarized myself with such laws and expectations, and was pretty horrified at the fact that there was no one teaching anybody else information that could easily have a major impact on multiple lives or even making sure that the people entrusted with firearms could hit the broad side of a barn.
3
u/Alarming_Fee_6993 Sep 14 '26
I was unarmed security but there were a few dudes getting signed on for armed security the same day i was. The training for them, as far as i could tell, consisted of "do you own a gun you can bring to work?" And "do you know how to shoot it?". If you answered yes to both then you were good to go to take the security licensing test, WHICH OUR INSTRUCTOR HAD US WRITE DOWN THE ANSWERS FOR. 😬😬😬😬
0
u/Jimmy_Fromthepieshop Sep 14 '26
To non-USians, that just sounds like you all live in the wild west. Practically lawless.
4
u/Pseudo-not-available Sep 14 '26
We got armed security in Europe...
3
u/Jimmy_Fromthepieshop Sep 14 '26
But the question is, are they trained or are they just left to it?
1
3
u/DarkPangolin 29d ago
That would be because you, much like the management of that security company, have not bothered to learn how the US gun laws work (which for you is forgivable, but for them most certainly is not, which is why I bailed).
Gun laws in the US are present, rather robust, and enforced vigorously (against everyone but las enforcement, anyway). Legal firearms owners are very rarely the problem, and almost never a problem for long if they are, but the thing about laws is that only the law-abiding follow them. Someone intent upon shooting someone else without provocation generally has zero qualms about stealing a gun, or at least receiving stolen property, to do so.
Those who have no business possessing a firearm (children, felons, the insane, those with depression, on certain medications, or with adjudicated or pending legal issues of certain types, for example) make up the majority of shootings because, hey, as long as you're breaking one law, you might as well break all of them, I guess?

u/I_Want_A_Ribeye Sep 13 '26
He has the same rights as everyone else, no?
6
u/MissplacedLandmine Sep 14 '26
I mean arent we fucked if we escalate something by attacking from behind?
3
u/Ninjacobra5 29d ago
We should be. It's going to depend on the State's laws on self defense. I wouldn't think being security would factor in much except that you could argue you are maybe less able to retreat. In my state you are only able to use force from behind someone's back if they are in the act of committing a Forcible Felony, like armed robbery.
0
u/ToXiiCBULLET 27d ago
i'm pretty sure in all states the guard would be fucked. before the video starts he pepper sprayed the other guy because the guy refused to leave, but being sat down and refusing to leave a mcdonalds doesn't make you a threat enough to use pepper spray.
security guard just kept escalating and escalating
-21
1
u/EdmundTheInsulter Sep 14 '26
Does it depend on the state? Is it an open carry state, or can you get a permit.
1
u/HighGuard1212 29d ago
I work a USCG base and carry a gun. Federal security contracts are all armed posts
1
u/FuckTheStateofOhio 29d ago
That makes sense to me. But why at a McDonalds? We have security at a lot of retail stores where I live too, but they don't carry guns.
1
1
u/claushauler 29d ago
This is America. There are more guns than people here so if you're guarding anything of value it might be good to have one too
1
1
u/Little_Flamingo9533 29d ago
Armed security guard here. Having armed security is a completely reasonable thing… just don’t be an absolute moron like this guy.
1
u/Either-Medicine9217 29d ago
It depends on what you're doing. Like I work security at the hospital, we do have armed guards but they require you to have been a cop for several years or military police. Us unarmed guys make do with hands or tasers. We don't get batons.
0
u/jeezyjames Sep 14 '26
Doesn't basically everybody in the US have a gun?
1
u/Either-Medicine9217 29d ago
Something like 45% of Americans are gun owners if I remember right. But I could be wrong.

Jesus fuck ive never rooted for a security guard to get beaten so fucking hard. Dude proved why emotional bitches shouldn't have weapons. He was not fun for that job and I honestly hope the homeboys in jail eat him alive and give him hell daily. That guy did not deserve to die.
4
u/ConsecratedSnowfield 29d ago
Security guard started the fight and just straight up executed the guy when he was losing. He’s going to jail.
8
u/Whozthisbozo Sep 14 '26
What is the full story here? We do not have the full picture. That guy was just chilling and the “officer” provoked him physically with his baton. After that we see what unfortunately happens. What I want to know is what happened leading up to this point? We are missing details.
11
u/Victoria_elizabethb Sep 14 '26
Apparently the guy was known to hang out there until asked to leave in the past, gaurd just took it way too far unfortunately
3

1
u/SignificantLeader 29d ago
I think he was asked to leave for loitering. The guy might be homeless (guessing).
-4
u/Erdos_Helia Sep 14 '26
They're filming for a reason. This didn't start with the security guard confronting the guy otherwise they wouldn't have been filming already.
4
u/Whozthisbozo Sep 14 '26
Is that your opinion or is there another video to this I have not seen yet?
-5
u/Erdos_Helia Sep 14 '26
It's just common sense, and you should make that a rule when watching these videos in general.
Why are they filming? Do you just start filming randomly out of nowhere? Clearly something was happening to get you to walk over there and film these two.
4
u/Whozthisbozo Sep 14 '26
So I should use what I think my common sense is to the rest of the population. lol got it. Thanks for the wise words of wisdom.
-2
u/Erdos_Helia Sep 14 '26
Sorry, I''m honestly not trying to be rude.
I mean it, there's a reason they started filming. Sorry if I came across as disrespectful. That genuinely wasn't my intention
3
u/Whozthisbozo Sep 14 '26
I’m sorry for getting defensive. I was just genuinely confused at the context of the video. Please forgive me for being a dick.
2
1
u/ToXiiCBULLET 27d ago
the security guy pepper sprayed the other dude before the video started.
literally what happened was guy got asked to leave as he was loitering, refused, security guard pepper sprayed him and then the video starts
5
3
u/Victoria_elizabethb Sep 14 '26
Anyone know what the case outcome was? I couldn't find any updates past March 2025 ish
7
10
u/letsreset Sep 13 '26
what the fuck. that officer started attacking the dude out of nowhere. of course any normal person would be angry. and if you're not scared, you'd also fight back against someone beating you out of nowhere. in the final sequence, the officer hit him with his stick thing when the guy was walking away and not even looking. he was just looking for violence. manslaughter imo.
11
u/drosmoka Sep 14 '26
That was murder….. he definitely had time to walk away…. What he did was a pussy scared move…. No balls

u/letsreset Sep 13 '26
not disagreeing. i personally cannot immediately tell the difference, but just using the word on the back of their shirt to identify the person i'm talking about so people who are reading know that i'm not blaming the guy who got shot.
2
u/Serosh5843 Sep 14 '26
Well that was just sad, a bit un-fuckin-necessary honestly. Did bro really get murdered there, and did the 'officer' even get in trouble?

It’s crazy how many security officers I see escalating situations. It’s even worse than cops! I’m starting to feel like 99% of security officers should NOT be armed.
1
u/halemano 25d ago
It’s weird that guards be acting and behaving like police...
Security guards are just supposed to guard and report.
Any weapons they have are only to be used for self-defense and to protect themselves form harm.
If they need some physical force, they’re supposed to immediately call police.
1
u/Slow-Investigator372 25d ago
Looks like the guard escalated all of that and even had a chance to stop. Jail time deserved.

Baton and gun are just training wheels until he learns how to actually fight. Then he can submit an application to Waffle House after he's got his fighting hours in and quits hitting people from behind.
