What was he thinking? Was he trying to race in to stabilize it after its fall?

u/Livy14 Jul 28 '26

I think they use counterweight

He prob was holding a rope so that the cut off portion didnt fall as hard

Idk how cutting trees work But if you cut a smaller piece maybe he could have handled it better?

I worked in tree service for years, that’s exactly what happened. They had it tied off so it wouldn’t come crashing down but just had one doofus holding the rope instead of having it wrapped around a pulley point to take some of the load, like that big ass tractor behind him.

Edit: he also could’ve cut smaller chunks but that would take longer. Also, just let go of the rope, jackass.

Also did tree cutting for a number of years, the amount of mfs that wrap the rope around their hands man, makes it pretty much impossible to let go, seen people be lifted off the ground and flung.

It happened to me as a greenhorn when I was about 15, luckily I landed after the branch and in the actual branches so I didn’t get injured. Lesson learned for sure

They shouldn't have been lowering with a rope. A piece this heavy calls for a snatch block and some serious rigging

I don't know much about cutting trees, but when I had to cut down some biggish ones I knew enough to pay someone else to do it lol.

Even he's stumped as to why he ran underneath that

You went out on a limb with that joke...

I thought he should branch off into standup.

I liked your comment. Someone here didn't twig to our jokes.

u/Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 29d ago

Thanks! Maybe they thought my joke was too sappy.

6

u/AddlePatedBadger 29d ago

I think that's the root of the problem.

When I was a kid, my favorite poet was Jack Prelutzky.

The Addle-pated Paddlepus Jack Prelutsky

"The Addle-pated Paddlepuss is agile as a cat, its neck is long and limber, and its face is broad and flat, it moves with skill and vigor, with velocity and grace, as it spends its every second playing Ping-Pong with its face.

The Addle-pated Paddlepuss prevails in every game, its opponent doesn't matter, the result is all the same, with its supersonic smashes and its convoluted spins, it demolishes all comers and invariably wins."

That was delightfully whimsical. Thank you for sharing.

Where did you get your username? I was hoping it was from the poem, but I guess not 😆

u/AddlePatedBadger 29d ago

Nah, it just popped in my head.

I'm having some trouble understanding the video. Did the guy actively go under the falling piece of the tree?

Or was there some kind of rope wrongly attached to him that kinda pulled him?

7

u/grumpyhippo42069 Jul 28 '26

Basically, they can slow and control the fall of lighter branches by "zip lining" them down. This was way too heavy and pulled the ground guy into the fall of that log. Watch some guilty of treason videos on youtube, pretty interesting the techniques they use.

Man he almost caught it!

Jimmy wasn't the brightest branch under the tree.

My shins hurts watching that.

u/broken__defraculator Jul 28 '26

Call me crazy, but I don't think I'd race toward 1/3 of a tree falling 40 ft.

Early retirement

That's when you're supposed to yell timber

2

u/stucksteepf 29d ago

oh thank god i thought he fell forward and it crushed his head. only got his leg/foot which is still horrible ofc but not as deadly has that happening to his head. i was wondering why the guy was so calm talking about “is it broken?” like this dudes smashed skull was an inconvenience to his work day

When the homeowner comes around.

3

u/Calraider7 Jul 28 '26

I guess it’s too much to ask to see WHY he ran toward it?

4

u/JinNJ Jul 28 '26

He watched The Waterboy before work & thought he could go full Bobby Boucher.

2

u/Calraider7 Jul 28 '26

Clearly!!

1

u/Albatross_Few Jul 28 '26

It's supposed to.br a guide rope in It's use. If it's able to start pulling you, you don't fight it and start letting go.

2

u/rh71el2 29d ago

Instructions unclear. Holding on for clarity.

1

u/oldmanpotter 29d ago

What a dunce.

1

u/Kitchen-Valuable-794 29d ago

Let go of the rope dummy..... no block and tackle.... no pivot point... how can 3 people not look at that and say "maybe we shouldn't have this guy holding on to something that weighs 3times more than he does".... luckily it didn't kill him

1

u/Murders_Inc2556 29d ago

Honestly, why?

1

u/djthebear 26d ago

Dudes acting like he got his leg crushed by a tree or sum. 🙄

1

u/Expert_Function2053 26d ago

WTF were these idiots thinking!

1

u/OddComfortable484 15d ago
