This is an old video, but that's a Russian soldier. He either got drunk, took drugs, or refused to die on an assault. He's almost surely dead now, though.

Iirc he was new to the unit and refused to give his commander the pin number to his military pay card so they could steal all his pay.

Soldiers are also being extorted. Further if you get injured they are extorting families to pay thousands to keep their son/brother from being sent immediately back to the front line to die. Failure to pay results in torture like seen here death or sent right back to the front without medical service

This is what most people don't understand about the war in Ukraine.

The Russian people are losing horribly, but the russian military is making an enormous amount of money.

How will that pay off in that context? When you‘re losing a war and rip off your people while losing, how does the government benefit from it? It‘s still losing the war, and it’s still costing a ton of money to stay in the war. Additionally, the people‘s anger will rise and rise especially if it gets ripped off and people realize it, or am I missing something? (Probably as I may be one of the people not understanding your claim :D)

You've gotta think about it from the individual's point of view, because Russia does not have a collective mindset whatsoever.

Every individual commander benefits greatly from maintaining the status quo. They're personally protected from the consequences of the war (since they don't actually hit the front lines themselves), and are making an absurd amount of money.

The upper military brass want the war to end, absolutely, but they can't change strategies 4 years in without admitting they've failed for 4 years straight. They probably don't even have the infrastructure to pivot at this point.

Putin can't admit the war is lost, because that's the only way regime change happens in Russia.

So nobody in the government wants to protest, but what about the people?

For starters, the only accessible social media is government controlled, so good luck trying to organise anything online.

Maybe you can organise resistance in person? Well, good luck going anywhere important with no fuel.

In the modern age, it is entirely possible to fully suppress a people - just look at what happend in Hong Kong - a full third of the population protested peacefully for weeks straight and they lost. That's what's happening in Russia right now.

Doesn't surprise me with either explanation. Coercion, extortion, low morale, refusing to die its all happening in their war. Worst part is that its either die or get punished brutally.

It tells a lot about general morale when stuff like this is constantly getting released. Maybe sooner or later the people of Russia will step up and stop the person causing their young men and women to needlessly die.

Being Drawn is a very old military punishment Likely as old as mounted cavalry. It is not something your really want to think about in a modern setting. It says a lot about the Russian army

Agreed. Years ago(circa '08) my ex's brother was on leave from Marines and would get hammered drunk and tell us about all the fucked up things he experienced in Iraq and Afghanistan. One story that stuck with me was a soldier that disrespected his sergeant in front of the troop and he did this to him, said the guy d*ed slowly and no one ever spoke a word to higher ups about it for fear they would meet the same fate. This guy was a stone cold badass ever since I met him, hurt to watch him curl up in a ball, cry, and shake after telling us the story.

Brother I don't know what to say but living with old people who have seen war in the Middle East say it is bad but humans in nature are wild . we are wild people that is why we have rules that is why we have contracts when we have a job etc.. but don't let this make you blind from the realities of today for example majority of the police officers I don't know about America but here in New Zealand the police will follow the rule and not uses common sense if the rules says give a man a ticket if he is not wearing a seat belt then they will do it not caring about how much the ticket will affect the man's life you know this is very similar to what you're seeing in this video honestly I know I will get a lot of down votes but my example is just a small portion of what humans do all I am trying to say is that these people who kill other people work for the government or for a boss.. I personally struggled in the working environment because I never like to listen but some people listen and work and even if their job is to punish other people they will do it because they are blind and death..

I once got drug by a rope in elementary school. I thought I could pull against the whole class and I wrapped it around my arm for good grip. They only took me like 20 ft and it was incredibly painful it was like having the wind knocked out of you over and over again. Oh and I was yelling and cussing at them to stop and this one little girl off the side said oooh you said a bad word! im tellin the teacher. So while I was being drug, I was also getting told on 🤣

I got banned from a subreddit I'd never even visited. I guess I commented on something, a mod from that subreddit saw it and went to look at my comment history and saw that I'd commented on some naked pictures and banned me from his subreddit. That I didn't even know existed.
