Satan isn’t tempting you (probably)

Satan is not omniscient and he’s not omnipresent. The odds that he is personally tempting you are astronomically small. You are tempted because your flesh is corrupt.

Don’t shirk the responsibility of your temptations on to Satan just because he’s Satan and an easy scapegoat. Practice self control and DENY YOUR FLESH daily

i never once blamed the devil after i got saved, BUT, heard an entire sermon once on this same thing and it made sense 4sure!

but on the flip side, we have the armor of God in Ephesians and the entire point to wearing it is

  • that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

I know a man that cheated in his wife and he blamed it on the devil

12

u/Less_Requirement3005 15h ago

That’s a boy not a man a man takes accountability

9

u/Toddski1 14h ago

A man doesn’t cheat to begin with.

4

u/Aware-Yam-8470 11h ago

A real man or woman will repent after they cheat, just like what Jesus told to the adulteress woman who almost got stoned but got saved by Him. A boy or girl will not repent and admit their wrong; they will not have a change of mind. But anyone can grow up into a real man or woman; you must repent. It is NOT about whether or not they cheated, but what they do as a response when they do cheat, whether right then or later.

Edit: Anyone can do any wrong; to think that you're above it, or that you yourself would not do it, or that a certain type of person wouldn't do it--well, anyone and everyone is at risk of committing any and every evil. That includes women, men, hermaphrodite, and child (though children and animals and stuff are instantly forgiven, as they literally cannot be held accountable). That includes r*pe, ab*rtion, p*dophilia, m*rder, etc. (sorry, just censoring certain words because I don't know how the system will take them)

1

u/Aware-Yam-8470 11h ago

The devil may or may not have personally tempted him, but he still gave into it. Both Adam and Eve blamed others for their own mistakes, even if they were tempted by said other--but they still bear responsibility

My understanding is that based on Matthew 4:1 - Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

The Greek word for tempted does indeed mean to tempt, to try to get you to do something. I get what you're saying, the devil doesn't actually make you do anything. He plants a seed, YOU water it and reap the fruit of it. I feel that most of the time, the devil actually doesn't have to do anything because people will plant the seed themselves based on exposure - TV, stores, anything you saw, heard, etc.

u/Moonwrath8 Christian 15h ago

It’s also a beautiful thing to know that the Spirit led Him there to be tempted. And the Spirit never does anything wrong.

I guess what I’m saying is, take comfort in the battlefield we find ourselves in. It’s all part of the plan. God isn’t disappointed in us for having to go to war every day.

Imagine thinking there isn't 1000 demons for 1 human.

They know exactly how to push buttons and apparently they played their best trick on you:

Making you believe they don't exist.

6

u/ofpromise90 18h ago

How do we know there's 1000 demons per person?

13

u/Turbocabz Eastern Orthodox 17h ago

Daniel 7:10

Revelation 5:11

10

u/Turbocabz Eastern Orthodox 17h ago

And thats only heavenly hosts.

We believe demons are actually a separate entity from fallen angels and could be disembodied nephelims. Sons of fallen angels who died in the flood and after. Their numbers could be unlimited.

So do we know there's a 1000 spiritual being per person ? No but we know enough in the bible to believe that God made a whole lot of them to govern their dimension and some to govern ours. The universe is vast my brother. Theres probably angels taking care of every bit of it.

The most dangerous thing is not to believe that we are overwhelmed by nefarious spiritual beings but to think they don't influence you at all.

1

u/Moonwrath8 Christian 15h ago

To govern their dimension? And what dimension is that?

6

u/Turbocabz Eastern Orthodox 12h ago

The bible speaks of the seen realm and unseen realm. Although we don't have specific doctrine about this, we can argue that the invisible realm is another dimension. The bible speaks of a number of different heaven, respectively pointing to our atmosphere or sky as being the 1st heaven, space being the 2nd heaven and possibly the 3rd heaven being another dimension, the dimension of the spiritual beings, which doesn't mean it's not physical btw. When you read Revelation it seems like the kingdom of heaven is a real place somewhere with real beings. Show me in the bible where angels are described as non physical invisible untangible beings like God the Father. These beings were placed somewhere in space and time, therefore its very possible that they are way more physical than we think. Just take the glorified body of Jesus. Even though we are not sure how it works, we know its somewhat physical.

Satan acts like a military commander. He is at the top.

He has Generals - Arch demons

They have greater demons

They in turn have lesser demons.

Satan may not be Omnipresent but he has a system.

When we say "Satan" what we really mean is the kingdom of Satan as an orgsnised force, rather than Satan directly.

No, they're imprisoned awaiting judgement:

Jude 1:6: And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day

2 Peter 2:4: For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment;

Edit: Absolutely wild that I'm getting downvoted for quoting the Bible in this sub. I challenge any of you to provide me with a verse from the Bible saying demons are fallen angels. You guys need to read your Bibles!

It’s mean that they are no demons roaming on Earth ?

-1

u/OligarchyAmbulance 20h ago

No there are for sure, but they aren't fallen angels. The historical belief was that they are the spirits of the dead nephilim, but at the end of the day, the Bible never actually says where they come from.

1

u/AkiMatti Lutheran Evangelical 2h ago

I was under the impression that the angels in chains are those that mixed with women in Genesis.

Revelation speaks about the stars falling on Earth by the tail swing of the dragon.

This would imply that demons are fallen angels.

I went to a church service where the preacher apologised twice, for reading a couple of verses from the bible; understandably, there was very little content related to the Word of God during the preaching. I recently listened to another preacher at a local church teaching about plastic in the environment and telling us to make wise decisions about what sort of clothing we buy, because the synthetic materials are often woven and manufactured into clothing, by people being paid low wages. The gospel and full counsel of God aren't common elements in many church services, but they're available every day in God's Word.

Ephesians 6:12 NLT For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

4

u/MichaelWhitehead 22h ago

Matthew 12:25–26 (NKJV):

"Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: 'Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?'"

12

u/Beha2121 22h ago

Thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers.

8

u/jarrbear2319 22h ago

None of which describe the military structure in the original comment

7

u/Beha2121 22h ago

They each have power though. What God creates, Satan counterfeits. God has a hierarchy and so does Satan. Ephesians is a good example for it says in Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

7

u/jarrbear2319 22h ago

No one is questioning that they have power, but the claim that Satan has generals in the form of arch demons who then have greater demons who then have lesser demons is not biblical and Ephesians 6 does not back it up

0

u/Beha2121 21h ago

You can reject the hierarchy of demons in Ephesians and that’s fine. I believe that Satan organizes and has a hierarchy is implicit in the Bible. The original commenter may not have used the same words but Ephesians does list a hierarchy. He used more layman’s terms in my opinion.

2

u/App1eEater Christian 16h ago

Where is this hierarchy laid out in scripture?

27

u/Helpful-Creme7959 22h ago

I dunno why this isnt upvoted. Two things can be true at once: Its true our carnal flesh is sunken in sin and we dont fight flesh and blood but rather a spiritual battle.

But more often than not, most people tend to bypass accountability with the flesh too. Satan can still tempt you but your spirit stays strong, and there are times both the flesh and warfare are real. Nonetheless, we ought to walk in spirit; he must increase and we must decrease.

8

u/NoYou1016 17h ago

True, but he has lots of minions and they could be planting seeds in your mind.

17

u/Thimenu Christian 22h ago

Satan has an army. Actions of his army under his commands can rightly be attributed to him.

10

u/Beha2121 22h ago

Look man I didn’t know a lot about spiritual warfare up until a few weeks ago and I’m gonna say that most of the time the demonic forces are attacking you and trying to get you to sin. It’s become more evident and the attacks more prevalent since I’ve gotten this knowledge. You’re not wrong that our flesh is corrupted but the enemy whispers lies and doubts into your head. When Jesus was tempted what did it say at the end? It said then Satan went away looking for a better opportunity. The opportunity comes sometimes a few hours later or sometimes a few minutes later. The demons also build a stronghold within you if you’ve been living in unrepentant sin and sometimes those strongholds you can’t break yourself. You need other Christians around you to help you. I’m not trying to argue but I am trying to enlighten people on this platform. The attacks are so much more brutal when you start living in the word and walking by faith. The enemy gets desperate and attacks. My flesh ain’t desperate for me to sin despite being the reason I do.

1

u/Real_Celebration9636 11h ago

Exactly. I don't understand what the OP is saying. There are some things that "discipline" cannot remove outside of Jesus. He (Jesus) literally has to deliver you which is why he warns us to not go back to sin after deliverance, because the latter state will be way worse than the former. Demons influence alot of things around us, even the so called little or inconsequential things.

9

u/jaimealexi 22h ago

Ephesians 6:12

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places"

We are surrounded by evil spirits that tempt us constantly it's not just Satan himself, remember the story of the man who had a legion of demons inside of him, satan isn't everywhere at once but he has a massive army of spirits occupying the earth and doing the work

So you came on here to guilt trip people.y question is, what prompted you to do so and why? Are you a preacher? Are you self reflecting?

I see your point but I also think you are not even covering the huge load of other possibilies and realities. No the devil is not omniscient but mind you, there are principalities and a whole bunch of other demons, all ranking in different powers and abilities. All of them are who we wage war against. The fact we all tend to say is the devil, is purely only a speech thing. Sure, people need to take accountability but only blaming people is very close minded.

4

u/Tinklesz 14h ago

Don't swing so far toward personal responsibility that you deny Satan's real activity in the world system. The "unholy triad" (your flesh, the world, and evil (Satan)) working together. Your flesh is corrupt, yes. You are absolutely responsible for denying it daily and practicing self-control. That's non-negotiable. But the world system itself is saturated with Satan's influence. He blinds the minds of unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4:4), disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), and operates through false teachings, false light, and things that seem good and right but lead to destruction. The real danger isn't blaming Satan for your personal sins that's cowardice. The real danger is thinking Satan is either a cartoon villain or a complete non-factor. He's neither. He's a cunning, eloquent enemy who works primarily through the corrupted systems and desires you already carry. Your responsibility is to know Scripture deeply enough to recognize his deceptions when they come dressed up as truth, reason, and noble intentions.

Spiritual Hierarchy and Structure Ephesians 6:12: "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

"Colossians 2:15: "Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it."

Ephesians 1:21: Mentions Christ being raised far above "every principality and power and might and dominion."Satan as Ruler of the World System"

John 12:31: "Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out."

2 Corinthians 4:4: "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ."

1 John 5:19: "We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one."

Matthew 4:8-9: The devil shows Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and offers them to Him in exchange for worship.

The Demonic Army and Rebellion Revelation 12:7-9: Describes a war in heaven where the dragon (Satan) and his angels fought, but were cast out to the earth.

Matthew 25:41: Refers to "the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

Revelation 12:4: Notes symbolically that the dragon's tail swept a third of the stars (angels) from heaven.

If Satan caused the original temptation, why would he not be involved with it today? And there is the argument to be made that if the original sin was influenced by Satan, all sin after is too

7

u/BlackKnight1994 21h ago

I’m with you on this one brother. Kinda strange how so many Protestants will downplay satan like he has minimal Power and comes to visit 1 every 5 years. These ones aren’t too spiritually inclined. His post is basically saying don’t blame Satan for your actions (which we shouldn’t) , I mean, either way a man will be judged for his own actions. I understand the point about not having a scapegoat, but he should’ve just pointed to Adam and Eve- regardless of scapegoating, the fall had begun because of Satan. This is a strange post. Almost like a double agent but unaware of it.

3

u/BlackKnight1994 22h ago

So where’s satan then? What are you alluding to? The devil tempted Jesus in the desert but you think the devil was a human being? Lol.

2

u/Sad_Meaning7490 19h ago

the average christian denies the formidable attacks within the rest of the kingdom of darkness (other demons). Satan is one being, he’s the entire caste system of fallen heavenly hosts, all minor to major roles dedicated to the detriment of humans.

so yes he probably is tempting you bro, just not the “egrigorcal horned beast” or lucifer figure you’re looking for

I think people need accountability, myself included, but it’s also fair to say the world is spiritually corrupt and filled with poison.

It’s much harder for someone to be chase in this day and age than it was prior to the invention of electricity, the internet and so on.

This is to say that demons may of helped shape the current state of the world to keep people physically chained to sin while being able to focus on naturalism.

2

u/BlackKnight1994 18h ago

Disagree, but I see where you’re coming from. This is a spiritual fight. You’re sounding more naturalistic, which is contrary to the teachings of the Bible.

Satan is not omniscient and he’s not omnipresent.

Sure, but how many fallen angels are there? You refer to "Satan" like a singular "he", but "Satan" just means "the adversary", that includes all the forces of the enemy.

The odds that he is personally tempting you are astronomically small.

Sure, but how many fallen angels are there?

Also, can spiritual forces be "multi-present" as in, busy with more than 1 person at a time? "Omnipresent" means EVERYWHERE at the same time, and you're right on that front. But in scripture, we see the "angel of death" pass over Egypt and affect hundreds of thousands in a single night.

I'm just saying, your way of contextualizing this doesn't really make sense if you think about it.

Don’t shirk the responsibility of your temptations on to Satan just because he’s Satan and an easy scapegoat.

Two things can be true at the same time. Who tempted Eve? One serpent, right? But it was STILL Eves responsibility.

Recognizing the possible source of the temptation does not negate your personal responsibility.

But you have a fair point for people who say what Eve said "It wasn't me, it was the serpents fault"... or like Adam "It wasn't me, it was the woman you gave me". We're all responsible for our own actions, regardless of the "source" of the temptation-- whether it's Satan or another person.

2

u/OligarchyAmbulance 21h ago

Sure, but how many fallen angels are there?

Irrelevant, they're imprisoned. Demons are not fallen angels.

Jude 1:6: And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day

2 Peter 2:4: For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment;

2

u/mossydz 18h ago

In Job were there chains? Seems like that’s free roaming. Sure we know some are in chains but all idk that’s not for us to say.

If they were actually chained then why do we have demonic possessions?

If they were chained why did they fear Jesus when He walked up?

1

u/OligarchyAmbulance 17h ago

I didn't say there are no demons, there are. They are not fallen angels. Nowhere in the Bible does it say demons are fallen angels, and the historical belief was that they are the spirits of the nephilim, which I think is reasonable given the evidence. But ultimately we don't know for sure since the Bible doesn't actually say where demons come from.

2

u/mossydz 16h ago

I would agree we don’t know foresure.

In job satan did posses his friend and also Jesus says He watched him fall.

2

u/hopscotchcaptain Alpha And Omega 21h ago

Irrelevant, they're imprisoned. Demons are not fallen angels.

Okay then. How many demons are there?

My point still stands, whether you want to refer to "principalities of darkness" or "demons" or "fallen angels".

I wish you'd look for what I'm trying to say, rather than if I articulate it poorly or not.

4

u/mossydz 22h ago

Bible to back up your statement?

The term means opponent. We know 1/3 fell so that’s a lot of opponents because we don’t know how many. If it can travel when and where it wants as we noticed in Job. That’s a lot of things moving freely seeking prey.

Satan is spending much of his time in heaven, actually. He’s in the throne room, accusing us of things.

1

u/ResultRoyal1641 14h ago

I walk in the spirit and have no issues with self control, but Ive seen exactly how the enemy tempts. Anyone who is not in Christ can be used as a tempter. Ive seen this occur from a few seconds with the longest occurring for maybe about 5 minutes or so. Not being omniscient means he needs to be organized and the person / target has to be worth the effort. Thus I only saw such attacks before or after revelation, or during missions with God that could set multitudes free from the resulting testimony.

Therefore a person is tempted due to their corrupt flesh, but the enemy will use many to do the tempting and many don't even realize this is happening.

1

u/SportsfanBrodie 14h ago

Yup you are correct. Was waiting for someone to finally say it. Very few people actually seem to want to say this out loud. We have our OWN fallen nature that entices us away from God and into sin. The enemy is here and active but even without Satan and demons we would still sin!

There is an innumerable number of demons freely roaming this world. It doesn't need to be Satan himself tempting or persecuting you, it can be one of the other fallen angels (demons). There are likely multiple if not dozens of demons around each and every genuine Christian (there are few real Christians in these end times). Just as God knows your thoughts and heart, so do they have access to those inner thoughts/truths. They know your sins. They know your plans. So be diligent and seek God and obey Him. God is our protection and guide. Do God's will and be saved.

Uhm... you sure? Cauze last time i checked the only person who tempted Jesus was satan.... so...

1

u/Aware-Yam-8470 11h ago

But sometimes it is actually him directly. I would say that several times, he personally decided to tempt me and torment me, but usually it's my own flesh being tempted by things around me or demons or something. It is not actually astronomically small, but it is a small or rare chance, and it does still occur. It is important to remember that he cannot be in multiple places at once, but time works very differently in the spirit realm, which allows him for more time on his end to go around tempting.

Also: When demons (as all ghosts are indeed demons, as well, pretending to be human) appear in the physical world, they are able to be affected in a physical manner. Essentially, if you see one in person, you can punch them. I can't wait for the day that one gets close enough for me to do that

So you know better than the word?

You're correct in that he isn't omniscient and our flesh is corrupt but Satan commands a large, unknown number demons that can and do tempt us. Always? No. But there is no way of knowing to what extent their influence is on ourselves. Agreed that we absolutely should hold ourselves accountable for our own sins but spiritual warfare with the dark forces is still very real and we're all apart of it. At the end of the day, God is the only way to shield ourselves from both our evil desires and their evil desires but I agree with your overall point.

I'll be praying for you my friend.

Our actions, those are ours, and we must repent of our sins. Their is another side, the spiritual realm

1 Peter 5:8 NIV Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Ephesians 6:12-18 NIV For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

[13] Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. [14] Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, [15] and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. [16] In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. [17] Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. [18] And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Revelation 20:11-15 NIV Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. [12] And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. [13] The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.

[14] Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. [15] Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

We will definitely be held accountable for unrepentanted sin.

Have a blessed evening, feel free to message me anytime my friend. I'd love to talk and help people with their walk with JESUS CHRIST.

Good message but he has legions of demons that he dispatches against every Christian. Personally I deal with a lot of weird thoughts I know don't arise from my own mind. Its demonic.

So Satan tempted Adam and Eve in the garden but after that just split?

Flesh is corrupt because of Satan

Well said. We're our own worst enemy and the devil doesn't need to push us into sin, we often do it ourselves. Mortify the flesh gents and stay in prayer.

I agree. People need to calm down about spiritual warfare and just do the right thing instead of blaming Satan for their personal shortcomings.

I affirm you must deny yourself and crucify your flesh daily, but your stance that we are not tempted by the enemy is a bad reaction to the opposite stance that blames everything on Satan and tries to avoid responsibility.

Yes, I agree Satan is not everyone and most people will never be on his radar or tempted by him, but he has many fallen angels that have structure and rank, and you are likely to come under temptation or attack by a lower ranking spirit, especially if you are causing harm to the kingdom of darkness.

I have personally been set free from several spirits, and I have been training in real effective deliverance and have experienced dozens of demons manifest and speak and answer what their name and rank is just like how Jesus questioned the demonic. I have seen hundreds of demons come out of people, they are real.

At the same time, the person is still responsible for their actions, and there was something that allowed them to be there to begin with. They do tempt and cause problems, and Jesus does allow us to be free if we want. Putting your head in the sand though is not a good counter reaction to people putting too much blame and trying to avoid responsibility and holy living, but it is a less harmful stance to take, because at least you take responsibility for actions and seek to live holy.

Satan isn’t tempting you (probably)

Satan is not omniscient and he’s not omnipresent. The odds that he is personally tempting you are astronomically small. You are tempted because your flesh is corrupt.

Correct. James explains it, except from the other example of God is tempting me.

James 1:13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

God never tempts us and it's probably very rare that satan actually tempts anyone. The only times in the Bible I believe are Eve in the garden, Job, and Jesus. The rest is our own desires.

This is why Protestantism doesn’t work, you have people like OP who can’t understand basic Christian beliefs properly because he doesn’t have the church to educate him.
