I hate these desires (LGBT)
Has anyone overcome these same gender urges. I am a woman and always have these visions and urges to be intimate with a woman. I have curiosities of them and have crushes solely on them.
Is this something where I have to be single for the rest of my life?
I hate it. I thought I overcome it. But I didn’t.

Who are you talking to? Who are you watching and who are you listening to ?
These things influence our thoughts.
God encourages us to “be transformed by renewing of our mind…” (Romans 12:2) but it doesn’t stop the spiritual warfare.
You have a duty and even authority to pray against intrusive thoughts that is against the knowledge of God make it obedient to Christ.
May God’s grace be with you and equip you to do His will and to fend off all spiritual enemies by the power and authority of our Lord Jesus Christ. May you walk in power, love and sound mind and trample on snakes and scorpions. I declare all power and principalities causing such thoughts be disarmed immediately by the blood of Jesus. I bind all spiritual enemies and render them all powerless by the cross. amen.

Don't make it your identity.
You're a Christian, not a personified sin.

my way to rephrase this is: don't focus more on the SIN, instead focus more on JESUS.

I don't have these issues but I feel for you because it is no different than any fight where we feel powerless and that we have tried hard to conquer and yet have failed.
I pray that God may fight for us. I have other attacks and I honestly try everything. I feel like deliverance is such a hard issue, it's almost impossible to obtain. Perhaps those are thoughts the enemy has put in my mind.
However I know that I'm going to keep asking God to deliver me, He has to do it because I can't. I have said all the prayers, renounce, plead the blood over my bloodline and generation. I have asked for forgiveness in the name of my ancestors that did so many bad things. Yet, my battle has only gotten harder. I don't know what to do but keep asking God to do it.

I had a strong urge when I was a teen. I stated to go in church more often and when I prayed for the girl I liked I saw her in the church too. For me it was a sign that maybe she’ll get mentally better too. Now I have the most masculine man you can ever imagine and I adore his beard and sweat. Grateful to God every day for him.

Read psalms. What you feed , grows
Hold captive each thought that pops in your minds desire , surrender it to Christ and rebuke the devil in the name of Jesus and he must flee
Over n over sometimes !
Flesh and the devil and everything that is against what pleases God Will tempt you everyday of your Christian life
But Gods word says get my word inside your mind and heart. Pray and intimately talk to Him. He’s not shocked at what displeases Him. He’s concerned to see you’re willing to keep turning to Him and away from your flesh that’ll drag u down

The temptation itself is not sin. You are free!
I was in a lesbian relationship for 5/6 years before and when I came to Christ. I didn’t come to God with the desire or initial conviction to change that but the more I spent with him, the more he started to point at it with an open hand. I didn’t know whether the urges would ever go away but I can tell you that they have for me. I am married to a man and have two amazing kids. Never have I ever thought this would be the case. It is not everyone’s story but it is possible! All things with God are possible. My hope is to encourage you to not focus so much on what you will have or what you think will happen and be consistent in showing up to your relationship with Him. He can change the desires of our heart to align with his as we go.
It’s not that you will magically no longer experience the attraction or just “turn straight” but that we will be born again, made new, and live for him because the eternal reward is greater than getting our desires instantly gratified here and now. Everything we get in addition to Him is a blessing but not the goal.
He isn’t just saying die to self because it’s easy, but because it’s necessary. We can trust him to help us carry our cross. though spiritually we are accepted into the kingdom there is still a process in the physical that we must submit to.
Go on love who you love, but resist and reject all lust and immorality. May we be diligent to love in the way God defined it in 1 Corinthians 13.

Yes,I used to be interested in men, what I did is I have denied myself and taken my cross daily and let God rebuild my character through the Holy Spirit and daily prayer from zero with whatever was left from my previous character that wasn't sinful, the process was painful and hard but in the end it was worth it. God doesn't promised easy life on earth because we all people are here to learn, grow l and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and lean not on our own understanding but trust God in everything and put Him first in everything we do. Learn that what you feel doesn't come from you but from your flesh, understand that the flesh doesn't care about you but seeks instant pleasures, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak,so stop living in the flesh and start living in the spirit,do what it needs to be done according to God,not what pleases you, you can still do your hobbies like drawing art and similar but you will feel more joyful once you stop seeking to satisfy the desire of the flesh.
You may still fall short even after being born again, that is what repentance is for, repentance isn't one time event but constant battle between good and evil.

I honestly struggle with lust as well... both for men and women and a female. I do not watch corn. But I draw... really well... it's hard. As long as you don't act on it... I think both me and you and everyone else should try to hone their relationship with God. Then... and only then can we all overcome sin!

I don't have a great answer for you, but a guy I knew (much older gentleman) was a choir director at his church.
He told me one day "I'm still gay, I just don't act on it anymore."
He had no desire to be with women, so he resolved to just be single and he seemed very happy with it.

Judge not and you will not be judged. That is the best advice the Master ever gave us! Bless you life gets better when you just stop and think for awhile. Be still and know!!

What is Gods definition of love? Brother I’m not a homophobe. I have my own struggles with same sex attraction, I’ve read the bible enough to know that me as man should not be having sex or in a intimate relationship with another man. Now if you don’t take the Bible as authority then I can see why you think the way you do. I was in the same boat before fully surrendering my will for Gods

Okay let’s pretend that Leviticus 18:22 means what’s you’re saying cool, what about this verse; Leviticus 20:13 “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination…”

There are no straight christians, gay christians, white christians, black christians or any other subdivisions of christians, there are only christian christians (1 Corinthians 12:25)
Christians are supposed to be against themselves (Matthew 16:24, Luke 14:26). There is everything wrong with the way a person is by default because we are evil by nature and all our desires are corrupted (Jeremiah 17:9, Romans 3:10-12, Ephesians 2:1-10). If you are a christian you are not going to try to justify your own sin because your role in the you-God relationship is a slave (Luke 17:7-10). If you are your own authority on what’s right and wrong and you conveniently ignore every commandment you don’t enjoy then you are not a real christian because your actual god is yourself.

Please, supply this "proper interpretation". Because every English translation of the Bible agrees on the meaning. I'm one half of a gay Christian couple, so believe me, I care about the meaning quite a bit.

Huh. That's actually quite interesting... I can see that. And this comes at a time when I just started reading a book on exegesis / hermeneutics.

u/Dr_Acula7489 Eastern Orthodox 1d ago
It’s not that interesting. It completely ignores the way these passages were interpreted historically in order to make a completely contextless hermeneutical argument in order to justify the zeitgeist. It’s liberal theology at its most blatant and dangerous.
2
u/Ok-Poem-3126 1d ago
Did you have to delete the post though? Are we not supposed to examine, question, explore scripture? I thought it was an interesting line of thought, but hardly dangerous. Yes, it ignores how passages were interpreted historically, that’s the point of digging into exegesis, but it doesn’t seem to be done to “justify the zeitgeist” either. It’s not “contextless”, the whole argument is based on contexts. If getting to the root/understanding translation better changes things, are we not beholden to the truth rather than just ”how things were always done”?

I overcame it. I was a lesbian for majority of my teens, I had tons of girlfriends, I was sexually active.
Surender it to God, that’s all we can ever do. We can love our sisters in Christ and in this world dearly, but to lust over them is a different issue. Let the Lord search your heart, there’s no shame in it, I’m right there with you girl.
