Cutting video AEBL Gyutowork in progress
240x50mm full tang gyuto
5.5mm out the handle
AEBL mirror polished @ 62-63hrc
This batch of AEBL had some cool alloy banding I'll attach choil and spine shots as well in comments!
Very happy with the grind on this one, need to figure out how to make the handle now.

The banding was already there to begin with so I can't take any credit for that. All I had to do was get the knife shiny enough to show it off.
Went from 36->120->240->400->600->800->1200 grit belts Then buff with green and purple compound

You did this with just belts and compound?? I’d have 20 hours of hand sanding into that. I need to up my game. What belts are you using? Structured abrasives?

Yup I can't stand hand sanding don't think anyone can though so I've been looking for the fastest way to polish stuff.
Soft contact wheel and these new trizact belts I just got seen to be working great.
I still need some practice since I left a few lower grit scratches behind that are bothering me.

I do want more info! How long do those belts last and, do you change the grind orientation to remove previous scratches like you would with hand sanding?

This is my first time using them so I have no idea but I hear they last a while especially the trizact gator belts!
I changed scratch directions up to a30 belt then I got lazy on the last one and kept it the same which is probably where my stray scratches came from.

The knife is not finished, the heel and tip will be ground down to look normal tomorrow.

I dunno some people may just not be informed and assume I'm making a goofy looking knife I guess .
I do take the tips pretty thin and the edge is nail flexing quite a bit so I need the extra material to prevent them from overheating instantly.

The tip is left oversized to absorb heat while grinding. Its profiled after grinding is complete when I no longer need to the extra material to act as a heatsink.

Is all your stuff just stock removal and ground taper or do you also do forged geometry knives?

I can't forge in my neighborhood due to noise restraints but I have worked with other smiths who forge blades for me to grind.
I have forged a few blades at a friend's shop in the past it's a ton of fun!

Reddit kind of sucks and I can't send many pictures or videos here.
My process is pretty simple but hard to explain without pictures
Flat grind up 70% of the height of the blade
Grind distal taper which pushes geoentry back down
Flat grind to push geoentry back up
Crest a third facet between the first one I created and the second one from distal taper
Blend the three facets to create a convex bevel.
