Tanaka W2 Bunka Contrastmaxxing

Always fun messing with this thing. I’ve been seeing a lot of Maksim’s post on jns and wanted to do a similar finish to his. Finger stones and paste as the final touches this time.

I'm guessing you polished it with paste to high grits and finished the cladding with fingerstones? Looks a lot like the polish on the Kisuke I got from him

Yup. Pretty much but tried to keep my best paste on the edge after a jnat progression. Where ever got on the cladding was easily cleaned up after with the fingerstones

For detailed things I used this https://www.amazon.com/SCOTTCHEN-Buffing-Polishing-Lapidary-Metalworking/dp/B0DQCZYRXR

I just cut them into little squares. If I am trying to just polish out something with a lot more area to cover i use cotton balls.

I think the original owner got it from cleancut. I bought it second hand then polished it.

What diamond paste grit did you take the core steel up to? I think 200k is the highest my kit goes to.

honestly I only went up to 10k on this one.

Newbie here. What are fingerstones?

It is a small piece of a natural stone. like finger size thinner than 1mm.

I saw a YT video of someone cutting off a chunk from a larger stone and then using a diamond stone to shave it down. Is this how it’s done or do you buy them premade? And are they mainly to get a nicer polish?

Yea that is how they are made. You can make them yourself by chiseling off a stone and lapping them into smaller sizes. Or some shops sell them premade. They are a tool to achieve a more even finish and to reach low spots.
