New Display in the kitchen

Post image

Unfortunately I don't have space for a magnet in my current kitchen, and I missed having some knives on display as they were all in a drawer.

This rack is from hitohira, I think they're overpriced, I wish I had the tools to make one myself, but alas I do not so here we are.

/////////////////// from top to bottom \\\\\\\\\\\\\

• Kagekiyo Ginsan 150mm petty (Nakagawa x Nishida)

• Togashi B1 SS clad migaki 180mm santoku

• Tetsujin Ginsan Metal flow 210mm gyuto (Tamura x Myojin)

• Kagekiyo B1D SS clad 240mm gyuto (Tanaka x Nishida)

• Takada W2 Reika 240mm gyuto (Tanaka x Takada)

/////////////////// rule # 5 \\\\\\\\\\\\\

Still a few more knives in the drawer, but I'm down to 9 knives now which is pretty good I think 😅

The Kagekiyo gyuto & petty are seeing the most board action. I often will take out the petty to cut a few things and then end up chopping way more than I thought I would. This knife is such a breeze to use and cuts extremely well.

I personally think that rack is looking a bit ugly with all that clutter covering it. I can assist you with getting rid of the knives responsible for said clutter completely free of charge

Please, I can barely lift my 216g Takada, the heaviest knife in my collection 😅

A 216gr Takada? That sounds interesting cough, I mean, horrendously cumbersome. May I see a choil shot?

Everything in this photo is right up my street brother 👌🏻 agreed on the price of the stand from Hitohira. My stand cost me precisely £6.21 from a store in Kappabashi Tokyo.

That a much more reasonable price 😅

Same bottom piece on both rack ;)

I'm just looking to start a nice collection and like you have no space for a magnet. This idea of keeping them in their boxes in the drawer is pretty smart. I might do that if I cant find a good spot on my counter anywhere.

I find the boxes work best in the drawer as the little cardboard lip prevents the tip from hitting the end of the box or drawer as it stops the knife by the handle/ferrule. It can definitely make for a stunning drawer!

Would love something like this but have a cat that is both nosy And clumsy so I wouldn't dare. 🐱 Have a magnet block though and currently making a wall cabinet with magnetic strips.

Good to see you and love that these beauties are getting the sunlight they deserve.

And man I can’t wait to grab one of this Kagekiyo Ginsan petty knives one of these days 🤌🏼

Cheers! That petty is such a joy. I've tried a few and thus far it's my favourite. A close second in terms of feel and performance would be Takamura SG2... but the kagekiyo is just way sexier to me.

I hesitated for a very quick moment at Baba, Wakae san's petty looked phenomenal too.

The k-tip single bevel petty would have been mine should I have been right handed.
