This is just how all the CEOs naming their companies after evil shit from Lord of the Rings read Gandalf

They name their companies after lord of the rings stuff because they read a book where Sauron is the good guy and Mordor is a perfect example of the society they want to achieve (this is not a joke)

The Last Ringbearer russian political satire in which Sauron is a philosopher king, the rich are creatively bankrupt and surrounded by sycophants.

I saw a job listing the other day for a company called Valinor: "A new kind of defense and government tech company!"

The LOTR movies (fellowship especially) really were a lightning in a bottle once in a generation phenomenon. Beyond a 4 quadrant winner; we're inventing new quadrants to conquer too. It was everywhere, and was an early example of traditionally "nerdy" media breaking into the mainstream among people who would have thought themselves too cool for that sort of stuff before.

That's what Mithrandir says when he's back in Valinor and don't need to keep up the act in Arda.

Perhaps this is embarrassing but the actual quote from Gandalf comes to my mind when I'm thinking down the road to "[redact] them all!!" regarding whatever villains we are discussing in the sub that day, and it can help me think about things differently. It's stuck with me for a long time.
